Thanks for all your suggestions guys. I liked Emi's ideas about wrapping fruit in greens and I reckon my neice would be up for it (anything to be able to play with her food) and about the ice blocks. I will be trying all of your suggestions - thanks.

Thanks for posting some weights Freedom. I thing when I initially read Green for Life I didnt think too much about the quantity of greens but now I just want to check that Im doing roughly the right thing.

Yeah alot of the time I feel that my body doesnt like bananas too. But the other day there were some fantastic ones at my local f&v shop and I could eat a heap of them but I just have to have them on their own.

There are beautiful beaches where I live South of Adelaide ie. Pt Noarlunga, Moana, Maslins. There is not as much public transport but if you have a bike you can ride from these beaches to and from the Noarlunga train station (there are busses but they are not hugely frequent). I dont know how many raw people live in this area and Im not sure about accomodation except that theres a few small caravan parks close to the beaches. Maybe if you stayed in the city you might find it nice to spend a few days on an adventure with a bike down South of Adelaide.

Hope this helps!

I was just re-reading the 'inspire me with salads' thread and I realised that this is so similar to the recipe Karen posted. Sorry to repeat everyone - and thanks Karen!

Had all green smoothies yesterday (and today). Feeling so great today. Just woke up feeling excellent (last few days I havnt felt so vibrant in the mornings so it is great)! Feel really calm and balanced and always so satiated.

Went for a ride on my mountain bike today and took a GS in my water bottle - it matched my green bike too which was cool!

Hey Jackson, yeah I want to try some strawberry leaves. I went to the market the otherday and got some real fresh little strawbs with their few green leaves at the top attached. I dont normally eat those bits of green with the strawberries but I did this time and was surprised that I liked it!
36  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Recipes - Drinks / Raw Vegan Tuna Mornay Smoothie on: Thursday 22 November, 2007
I was inspired by one of the salad threads so I thought Id try putting some seaweed in a savoury smoothie. Cos I put corn in as well it totally tasted like tuna mornay!

I put in...

corn
seaweed
tomato
celery
cos lettuce

You know what, I reckon you could even make a tuna-mornay-esque salad with macadamias in it also. Or blend macadamias with tomato and seaweed and pour over the cut up vegies including the corn.

Whoa!

Thanks for your post Karen. I think I will have to get some seeds to start growing stevia and collards. I am growing kale at the moment but it is the funny shaped leaf one not the dark green one. Yeah pears are good in the GS's, i didnt know why but like you said maybe its cos theyre super sweet.

Hi everyone,

After Sergie's talk and a bit of self experimentation I have a few questions on the topic of green smoothies (GS's)...

Does anyone here eat a half kilo of greens per day? Sergei and Victoria show that this amount meets the RDI guidelines (the american ones which are perhaps inflated though). I have been weighing my greens and have been a bit dismayed with the small amounts (by weight) that I can fit into my GS's.

If you need these greens for optimum health then what should I do if I cant get my neice to eat enough of them?

I wasnt worried about the oxalic acid thing before but now Ive been weighing out a half kilo of endive, I notice that it is kinda alot. I am therefore worried that I may be getting alot of the oxalic acidy things that are only ok in small quantities?

I have been harvesting several types of wild greens but they seem to weigh alot less than garden or shop greens. For the people that are eating a half kilo of greens a day, where are your main sources of greens and what types are you eating?

If there isnt anyone currently eating this amount of greens a day maybe some of us could do a 'green challenge' together and try to eat a certain amount per day for a week and then post about our experiences eg. challenges, how we feel etc?

Chlorophyll for thought.

Hi everyone!

Ive been having some digestive problems of late and so I am gonna do a green smoothie cleanse. I want to give my digestion a bit of a break but I dont want to water fast cos I havnt got the time to be bedridden at the moment as I am cycling a bit and working too. I want this GS cleanse to help get rid of my minor addictions of adding salt to my meals and overt fats. I also want to remineralise my body and get into the routine of eating lots of greens. I think I am going to try for 30 days on GS's.

If anyone has any tips, ideas or heads up on what I might experience I'd love you to share them with me.

I am starting today and am thinking about having 3 GS's/day of between 1/2 to 1L each. And varying them between sweet and savoury as I feel the need. If I excersize alot I might have to have more.

Something I'm not sure about is eating the half kilo of greens that Sergei and Victoria says meets the reccommended daily intake requirements (albeit the official american and possibly inflated ones). Ive been experimenting with weighing my greens over the last week and the most Ive been able to jam in one of my half a L to 1L GS is about 150g. I guess that some greens weigh more than others due to higher water content or stem thickness and Ive mainly been eating more delicate wild/home grown ones.

Is anyone out there eating half a kilo of greens a day???

I feel like I've come up with more questions for Sergei re the green smoothie thing, maybe I'll start a new thread in the chat section.

Oh, and I'm gonna try and go shampoo free this month too!!

Whoopee!  ohyeah

I did a bit of research on this a couple of years ago when I was in Alice Springs. The people that run this business have a big nursery (Reedy Creek nursery) and were very friendly, if you called them you might even be able to get them to send you seeds or fresh produce. http://www.outbackpride.com.au/

There was also a nursery in Alice Springs called Tangentyre (pron. tangengeera) which grows and sells a range of bush food plants.

I have tried to grow bush tomatos but it is tricky to get them to fruit. There are a few nurseries who are working on breeding up stronger and more productive strains of a number of bushfoods so that they might eventually be grown commercially.

This morning I made a pesto with basil from my garden, lemons from my friends garden, gleaned wild mustard leaves and walnuts - yum!

Peta - here is a picture of the curled dock which is the one we have close by, it is Rumex sp. and aparently you can eat all of the Rumex's. I did alot of Plant ID at TAFE a few years ago and its finally coming to good use!!!

Strangely I didnt like the taste of the leaves on their own but in the smoothie they were fabulous.

45  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Raw Vegan on Big Brother! on: Thursday 15 November, 2007
Its a reality tv show where a number of people get locked in a house for a couple of months and filmed constantly. There is a voice that they project into the house (called big brother) which tells the housemates to play games etc. People get voted out by the public and the last one left wins some money.
