I am soooooooo jealous!!!!!!  downcast

I am trying to find a source of coconuts in Christchurch NZ and anybody I ask looks at me like I have screw loose.   kookoo   The same people have for sale papaya, pineapples and peaches on their shelves and they are all imported.

I can get as may brown coconuts as I want but green ones are as they say as scarce as hen's teeth!

We live so close to Aussie and the Islands why can't we get them here?  It is a mystery to me......... shrug

Anyhoo hope you enjoy them.......

 shrug shrug shrug shrug

I am still trying in vain to find a source of coconuts.........not the brown hairy ones but the beautiful green ones that are so full of great stuff.  I read several articles on them and they are truly amazing!

I am hooked on cacao fudge at the mo and eat it at every opportunity.........

dates - as many as you like
banana
caco - as much as you like
nuts - again as many as you want
and orange juice all mushed up............I eat it on apples slices kiwi fruit or just off the spoon!

That's the thing I love about being raw you don't have to measure anything.

I have just bought n Ezidri dehydrator and am so pleased with it.  I have been experimenting with crackers and have made several different ones..........my fav are the veg/linseed ones but I can see there are endless possibilities.

Also made some banana and kiwi fruit leather than tastes like lollies and dried some apple and kiwi just to see what it was like.   Think I will mainly use it for crackers.  If anybody has some fav recipes I would be grateful as it is always nice to try something different. smiley

In the meantime I shall continue my guest for the elusive young coconuts!

I so know where you are coming from!!  My man of 30 years is a devoted meat and 3-6 veg man.  All cooked to within an inch of it's life.  He is very supportive of my raw diet but is "no way gonna go down that road" although I should say he loves salad so long as it is liberally dressed with condensed milk salad dressing!!   He loves meat (makes me retch) he loves cooked veg and loves ice-cream!!

There is no way I am going to convert this carnivore but like you I have realised later rather than earlier that I have to be true to myself and not feel embarrassed about being raw.  For so long I ate cooked food if we were at friends, inlaws etc rather than stand up and say no thank you I don't like eating meat!!!!

Hang in there and be true to yourself.  My biggest regret is that I didn't have the courage to do it sooner.  Is it possible to be a closet raw foodist........

Our boys who are 30 and 26 are avid supporters of my raw foodism and one of them is a chef!!

Thanks so much for the replies Eve and Jenergy,

I have a son in Wellington so might get him to send me some down to Christchurch

I am so struggling to understand how we live so close to Fiji, Tonga etc and we don't have a ready supply of young coconuts yet I see tasteless tomatoes in the supermarket that have been imported from the likes of China!!!  Geez it makes me mad.........I refuse to buy into that let alone buy them.

Anyway I am going to keep looking and asking questions cos I figure the large population of Fijians and Tongan's who live here MUST want young coconuts.  Will keep you posted.

Thanks again.......... yahh

I am trying to source young coconuts in NZ.  All the usual places have the older brown ones with the hard inside but I want the young ones for the meat and water.  Can anybody help me?
10  Locally RAW / Australia & New Zealand / Raw Foodists in Christchurch NZ on: Saturday 14 June, 2008
I am returning to NZ in June after 5 years in the UK and would like to talk to or meet other people who are raw. I have been dabbling in raw for the last few years and because of my job I have found it difficult to stick to.  I will finally be settled once I return and intend to go 100% raw immediately.  I would love to talk to or meet other raw foodists for ideas, recipes and support.
