1  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Recipes - Meals & Snacks / Banana almond mylk Lassi! on: Monday 08 December, 2008
Well, I couldn't wait for responses so figuring it wouldn't kill me, I went ahead and spontaneously accidentally created a lassi  ohyeah
you know, the Indian yoghurt drink?

Now, we no longer have to miss out on this delight!  Totally deelish, it went down so smoooothly and quickly!

banana, more honey (this in the mylk making is apparently what causes it to sour so quickly)
and superfoods such as bee pollen, mesquite, lucuma mmm

Tomorrow - mango lassi!
PS: Will let you know if it killed me with a delayed reaction Wink

2  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Recipes - Meals & Snacks / sour nut mylk on: Monday 08 December, 2008
So, if Sergei says this is how one can make nut/seed cheese - ie without any culture - then assumedly sour nut mylk is ok even good to drink? (for those forgetful like me).  Anyone actually prefer it?  When drinking raw milk in the past, I remember some actually preferring it soured...

From Eating without Heating by Sergei and Valya Boutenko.

Nut or seed yogurt

1 cup any nuts or seeds soaked overnight
1 cup water

Blend nuts with water thoroughly in a blender until smooth. Keep adding water until you have the consistency of heavy cream. Strain mixture through a sprout bag. Pour into a jar and cover with a cheesecloth for the transfer of air and gases. Set your jar in a warm place where the yogurt temperature can heat up o 90-100 degres. It will be ready in approximately 6 to 12 hours or when it tastes tart and sour.

The abridged version...  laugh

I'm from Adelaide and have been up here in far nth qld since march (?)... which was a total spontaneous addition to our planned 3 month holiday trip up the east coast!  We got as far as The Daintree and were inspired by a friend to stay and experience life here for a while. So, after a few months sharing in Port Douglas, and a few months of bliss in a world heritage listed rainforest kabana, we've come to feel for this land as home.  Now we are returning down south to take care of business and move up here next march!  The South Aussie festival season is looming also - how I love it! ConFest, WOMAD, Fringe, Festival of Arts!

Not as many black sapotes down there either so I'll create something different with cherries or stone fruit mmmm!
Only problem is what to replace the coconut with in the cake bases?  I'm not into nuts much anymore (creates some serious acid in back due to indigestibiity) and I just can't go back to those sickly, imported, caramelised coconuts now! It's much the same as not being able to tolerate frozen durian anymore, after having had the real thing.  It's the body not the mind/ego too, it simply does not sit well at all Sad  So, it's next April in the tropics for next durian!!  ohyeah

Anyone then have any ideas on alternatives to nuts or coconut to make cake bases?? Thanks!

Wow. Thanks Neet.  Smiley

I admit I did get a little hot under the collar.  My intention was genuinely to make a point for consideration [OK and perhaps summons some support also Smiley].  Though I haven't been a big poster (till last night hehe), I am very thankful for this forum.  If my own words were inappropriate and offensive I do apologise as by no means do I want you Harley, or any other member to feel pushed out.  Noone deserves this.  I also like to challenge others' thoughts, though to my best ability without antagonising.

Thanks for speaking out... I fully believe that sharing authentically (expressing our true feelings) has amaaazing potential for bringing people together as well as pushing the boundaries when appropriate.

OK this is now way off thread so let me add..

Whilst I've done the calorie counting thing before and am over what I feel is an obsessive way of 'dieting', of course I acknowledge calories in - calories out logic.  However I believe it's not that simple and there is more to it.

I'm checking myself out today out of curiosity Smiley

Smiling again,

Mmm yummy! A pity we're about to vacate from coconut territory Sad(

Try this one - it's been my 'secret' weapon and source of pocket money up here.  All my friends LOVE it and I've been selling cakes with this as the filling to the gourmet cafe in Port Douglas Smiley  I acknowledge Raw Power as my original inspiration.

Choc Sapote Delight

2 very ripe nanas
2 black sapote
1-2 avocado (depending how creamy you prefer)
2 tblspns raw cacao
200g dates (soaked)

Now, as if all this isn't good enough, it's the addition of 2 vanilla pod (seeds) & 1 tbspn of mesquite that really make it

Blend all in high power blender - to a cream! It is usually needed to blend the fruit first.  A processor doesn't do the trick properly.

If you want the cake base, it's simply the fresh coconut fibre after having extracted the cream, processed with more dates.

Sprinkle some freshly grated, pure white coconut on top and admire your creation Smiley

So you see tis easypeasy if you have a good blender and processor!

You will earn extra friends with this one I guarantee!!!  ohyeah

way cool - I had no idea there were so many of us onto this yahay!  ohyeah

I too shaved my head and refrained from washing for first couple of months... then I gave in unnecessarily just out of habit?  But now I'm a few months on again without having used any commercial or natural shampoos (I tried many!), only sea water (good for drying excess oil and creating body hehe), coconut oil and good clean chemical free water (we are lucky enough to live near Mossman Gorge mmm).  Though it may be difficult to access if you don't have a water purifier/alkaliser, I've also found the by-product of alkaline water: acid water - to be amazing for rejuvenating the scalp and keeping dandruff at bay Smiley

My hair is also thick and never overgreasy anymore.

12  Locally RAW / Australia & New Zealand / Re: Hayfever Relief on: Monday 15 October, 2007
Hayfever...  A fluid imbalance according to Schuessler.

I used to use Schuessler tissue salts for a variety of mild ailments... but that was before raw and before learning to look for an even more underlying cause relating to my nutrition... Tissue Salts are a homoeopathically prepared micro-dose of the body’s 12 vital minerals. In this form the minerals are very easy to assimilate and pass rapidly into the blood stream and into the cells, restoring balance.  'Nat Mur' does work short term. Though not ideal or raw in essence, tis just an idea for perhaps a consideration for functionality until you get to the root cause?
The tablets (@$8 from most chemists) are in a lactose base...
Good luck. I don't envy you Sad

calling fruit unsustainable...lol! that sounds like a drunken comment

yer.. what fool misread that it was said that fruit is unsustainable? Sounds like a drunken read Tongue

And a blissful life it is amongst the trees too Smiley

As amused and non-reactive as D is to your post, I feel inspired to reply to such an unnecessary condescending diatribe. Now, without further judgement or turning this into a sling-fest...

As it is, D never said nor suggested fruit to be generally unsustainable.  If one is to read the post with an open mind (ego and the need to prove yourself 'right' aside) it can be clearly understood that he refers to eating kilos of fruit (as he used to) as being unsustainable. So not only was there no need to respond in such a sarcastic manner (sly, let alone inaccurate reference to our personal conversation that other RPers aren't privvy to is low and inadmissable in the RP court hehe).

Whilst I acknowledge your vast amount of knowledge and experience with a highly athletic diet & lifestyle, I do not see how sarcastically taking the * out of your fellow RP member does anything positive for this forum, other than  boosting your own karma points. Athleticism may be your passion but we all know it is not the be-all & end-all to the world.  Some people are instinctively drawn to it and some aren't.  Why make those that aren't, wrong for their choice?  If one is happy whilst devoting their life to another non-harmful venture or lifestyle be it meditation in a cave, feeding those less fortunate from a soup van or sharing with the world their own healing experiences... then good for them I say! Why insist they could be "doing better"?

Food for thought: Eskimos eat no fruit and are a extremely hardy culture. Children of the Himalayas run up their mountain on a diet extremely low in fruit. Monks of Thailand and other countries work all day every day on an extremely minimal diet.  In fact, it is known that people live longer the less they eat.

If our body tell us to eat less, perhaps there's a valid point there somewhere? If our body tells us to strip a fruit tree bare or for one man to constantly eat enough to feed a family of 3-4, perhaps there's a message in there somewhere?

Sustainability: The use of ecosystems and their resources in a manner that satisfies current needs without compromising the needs or options of future generations; the concept of producing a biological resource under management practices that ensure replacement of the part harvested, by regrowth or reproduction, before another harvest occurs.

What happened to this being a 'forum' where members can share and discuss thoughts and info on RAW FOOD experiences, with care and support as per the policies? Instincto eating is the topic, not condescension of those that choose differently.

15  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Raw Pets / Re: which raw meats to feed animals? on: Sunday 14 October, 2007
Wow!  I'm really appreciating this thread and everyone's  open-mindedness around feeding our beloved ones raw meat (given the predominantly vegan nature & membership of the forum; which opens up that can of moral worms on 'can a domestic canine/feline pet be healthily vegan'?).

> chewing the fat (hehehe)...
My experiences with changing my own puss-cat's diet were quite astounding!  I experimented a fair bit actually, using our own diet experience as a point of reference.

Tin food never worked for my cat, giving diarrhoea from the beginning, and I'd regularly tried her on the recommended chicken necks etc only to be sniffed and rejected.  So she'd been on IAMS for years [vet formula dry biscuits apparently all nutrients etc included. I was consistently assured that the need for variety in diet is a human trait (psychological or nutritional hmm?)]

Anyway, upon going raw myself, I decided it was crazy to know the benefit of raw and continue feeding her processed!  I began feeding her kangaroo mince (human consumption quality) and noticed she wanted a lot, often.  For a while I indulged her, thinking perhaps her body had been starved of what she needed (thoguh she wasn't skinny and always appeared healthy)...
Then out of concern for too much taurine and potential bladder crystals, we offered her fattier mince beef also.  She loved it but needed less, seeming to be satisfied quicker.  Her coat's sheen improved, and her demeanour and behaviour became calmer, less erratic.  I've seen the same in my boyfriend hahaha rofl!  Only doubts were what to feed her for teeth cleansing given she refused bones... lazy thing!  Poor/sore gums could also result in this.

Anyway, we found this valuable info at the time...  hope it helps someone else.
