16  Go RAW! The Testimonial Section! / RAW Journals - Your RAW Experiences / Re: jen's raw adventure on: Sunday 23 December, 2007
Jen, Happy Holidays!  You deserve that vacation!!  Wow, that's great your husband is "kidnapping"  you. Smiley

Congratulations on your one year adventure anniversay.  I remember when you first came here...you mentioned something about anger issues and I remember thinking...you've come a ways because you  have that supportive, fun side of you showing a lot of the times!

So, it's been great and I'm inspired to hear of  your transformation journey this past year.  It gives me hope for changes I still need to work on and helps me see others, who are working on similar issues to yours, in a clearer light.

Bon voyage  juiceup,  Rosal

Rawconnection,

I went to a Kicinich Kick-off rally here in San Francisco and I heard the sad news about Dennis' brother passing away last night...

My condolensces to you and your husband's family on his cousin, Dennis.

Dennis Kucinich's wife, Elizabeth, was going to speak tonight but, due to the cirumstances, she wasn't available to speak which was expected.

We did have our other guest speakers perform.  It was very informative and refreshing.

Speakers tonight who supported Dennis Kucinich included:

  • Michael Parenti - author

  • John Nichols - Nation magazines correspondent, author of "The Genius of Impeachment..."

  • Medea Benjamin - co-founder of CODEPINK - Women for Peace
  • Amy Vossbrinck - campaign aid to Dennis Kucinich

I like her idea of green smoothies, but I don't own a real blender (I have a little hand-held blender -- cleanup is 1 minute though! Wink ).

I'm thinking of getting a real blender and a food processor -- or perhaps just a Vitamix (used).

My hand blender is super at making green smoothies - give it a go if you haven't yet. I wouldn't have thought to try it till another Raw blogger (Kristen's Raw) told me to try it. Do eeeet!!

Hi Kitteh, I actually had tried it not too long ago, and, unfortunatley, it looked like the kale/greens were attacked by a dull weed-whacker....  laugh

Here's a picture of my hand-held blender.  The blade is smaller than most hand-held blenders I believe.

I suppose if I cut up the veggies first, etc. it would work, but for now, I'll stick with this little thing for easy drinks and get a food processor for my veggie dishes/meals. Smiley

Thanks, Sheryl.  I enjoy learning new words -- especially from other cultures. Smiley

Hmm, I'm interested in hearing more about his gall bladder bile info...will do a little googling as well...

Tiffraw and others, I think I get more on the "tan" side also.  I have a cousin who sees me once in a while...Sometimes one of the first things he says to me is:

"Have you been in the sun?"

I'm usually caught off guard and I say...uh, well, I was reading a book outside for 15 minutes a few days ago...LOL.  laugh

I think I have relatives who also ask me if they haven't seen me in a while.

Hmmm...Is "bikkie balls" an Australian term??..something to add to my notes! Smiley

Great going' durianrider!

That's awesome your skin is even better.

Do you find yourself still drinking water?  I guess if you're biking a lot, you do drink water??...

When I went on my OJ fast, even though I drank less water, my skin felt better and I felt I was MORE hydrated by the OJ...

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Thanks for sharing Ivan!

A great experience that ripple effect...
26  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / business with wholesalers on: Thursday 20 December, 2007
In my 'hood, we also go to wholesalers (in addition to Farmer's Markets, etc.).  They usually sell only to commerical businesses but they let our raw group come in because we don't bounce checks, etc.

They can be cool, too.

The person who bought mangos from them last week mentioned to them the mangos unfortunately didn't ripen -- and they replaced the small batch we got from them for free!   cool
27  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Went to the dietician this morning on: Wednesday 19 December, 2007
No they'd all be just throwing bananas at each other, but the politicians would have to become vegan for them not to have been deployed in the first place.

Well,  the U.S. is working on getting on one elected.  See post here for info:

Next U.S. President -- a vegan??

Yes, long way to go ....
28  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Off Topic Chat / Next U.S. President -- a vegan?? on: Wednesday 19 December, 2007
For those who don't know, the U.S. has someone who hopes to run for President in 2008 -- and he's vegan!

I can't give you much input on what I think of him politically -- the web has a ton of info -- but I thought I'd pass this on to get more people aware of who he is at least.

Anyway, I thought it was pretty interesting.  I'm not sure if he does a lot of raw...but he's getting the word out about the vegan lifestyle.

His background: About Dennis.

Interestingly, he was voted as a U.S. Senator based on a campaign slogan:  "Because he was right".  He had decided to do the right thing in regards to a decision even though it was extremely  unpopular and would mean damaging his career.

And it did.  Until 15 years later when people realized he had done the right thing....

Here is a CNN Article featuring Dennis Kucinich

Here's the first part of the article:

Quote
Cedar Rapids, IOWA (CNN) – At the Livestrong Forum Monday, Democratic presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, hit home the message of proper health education and personally shared the benefits he’s experienced since adopting a vegan lifestyle.

“I didn't need as much sleep. I had a lot more energy. I had a lot more clarity. I didn't have the health problems that I had previous to that,” the Ohio congressman said. “And as a result, I had a better quality of life.”

Kucinich added: “People want a president who is healthy because if you’re healthy you can think right.”

29  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: your choice... on: Wednesday 19 December, 2007
I've never had a raw cake, but I can see how they'd be best as a 'treat' and not a regular part of my raw diet Wink

Wow, Kitteh!  They're divine!  If there are no raw restaurants in your area, potlucks are possibly a great source for the delicious raw cheesecakes/cakes.

I think I know what you mean though about they being a treat.  It's strange ...now-a-days  I still feel hungry after eating them ...but yes, can be a tasty treat.

As for the choice above...we'll it's gonna' be a piece of the cake as now my strategy is too eat all my fruits first before going to a potluck so I can try the heavier foods (minus the fruits if possible) at the party.

Thank you for the warm welcome and hug Sacha.  A friendly hug back to you.

I thought that was a good point about men looking at advice about women differently...Sounds like you hit the spot there...

On the light side, I thought of a fun title for a workshop (maybe if the couple is there):

Raw women -- and the Men Who Love Them.

LOL.  laugh  Could be the name of a book as well.

In seriousness though, sounds like you are working in align with your passions.  Thanks for being an inspiration. Smiley
