Great looking compost thingo Jen! And I eat those weeds all the time, I don't know what they are but I have them in salads and GS. Bella is such a cutie! I wish Casper loved watermelon that much!!
Lots of people say that once you have been raw for a while you stop getting burnt and I have noticed this is true in myself (18 months 100% raw) though if I'm out in the heat of the day, especially when it's 38 degrees as it has been for over a month here in Perth, I do still burn a bit. My advice is to avoid the sun in the middle of the day (good old 11 to 3 stay under a tree, lol!) and wear light cotton shirts/pants to protect yourself.
Once the burning has actually happened, nothing is better than fresh aloe gel straight from the plant. I've done a comparison when I had burnt shoulders - the one with the aloe returned to a normal colour and didn't peel while the one without aloe took a while to get back to normal and peeled heaps.
I read an excerpt from this book, and an article by Tonya, in the latest 'Get Fresh' magazine and it looked great, I would love to read it too. Glad everyone enjoyed it so much, thanks for sharing!
Hey Steven, have you read Green For Life by Victoria Boutenko? Anyway, doesn't matter if you haven't... I met her son Sergei when he was here last October. He has been raw vegan for 14 years (since age 12) and thanks to his mum, he has eaten LOTS of greens for a LONG time. He told me that he can now sit down and happily eat a whole bowl of greens straight and really enjoy them - but that has taken him a whole 14 years!! After years of eating highly processed, salty, sugary foods, people's tastebuds are somewhat perverted. Just give it time and you might find you love greens.
Yup I love asparagus. It's something I've never grown so I've only ever had it at the size I get at organic markets, but I'd say that's about the same (around 20cm) as yours. So I'd eat it now, especially if it's that yummy! Enjoy!
Hey lovely Earthmummy, well, I just discovered my wart is gone! When I was a kid I had heaps of them all over my hands, I had lots burned off with dry ice etc but mostly they came back... then for some reason I completely stopped getting them when I was about 13 or so. Anyway, one sprouted on the side of my index finger about January 2007 (6 months into raw) all by itself. It dropped off towards the end of last year without warning but then grew back again - but now it's totally gone with no trace remaining. Bit weird, but there you go!
Hey there! I'm afraid in the recipe department I'm not all that much help... my little boy loves straight up raw meat but he's not a fan of much else. There are some recipes in Ani Phyo's book that her dog apparently loves but again, Casper is not a fan. I think it would be much better to start a dog off raw as a pup - Casper is 10 1/2 after all. I'd like to suggest that rather than 'weaning' your pup off of normal food, you switch her all at once. She may resist at first but stick with it and you'll convince her. That's just my opinion, anyway. Have a read through the pet section here and you'll find where I've posted some info about how much a dog should eat in a day etc etc... and post some photos of your little girl for us!!
That is totally awesome RS! Excellent work. My Mum is now into week 5 of 100% raw and I agree, it is so cool to have someone doing it with you, even if you've already been going it alone for a fair while.
Hey lovefood, you just click on the 'insert hyperlink.' This will give you something that looks like What you need to do is put the link inbetween the two s. Hope this helps!
Oh silly me I didn't put the day! It's Sunday - our picnics usually are. I live in Bayswater, right on Guildford Rd just a few minutes from the river. Great spot! I am probably going to have a potluck here next month some time, I'll let you know when it's closer.
Enjoy that green smoothie, I'm having a delicious one right now!
I am having an article published in the March issue of Vegan Voice... not on raw stuff but I'm hoping to get a raw one in there soon! It is an awesome magazine.
Hi Greenmum, welcome to the forum and the wonderful world of raw. Great to see another lovely Perth rawbie - there is a picnic this weekend at Whitfords Beach from 3.30pm onwards, you are more than welcome to come and chat in person to some rawbies.
That kale looks great, ours still looks like that - where in Perth are you?
