No one discussed such things with me as one did not talk about such things when I gave birth.

I resisted and fought my labour all the way as I was told to do. Today I would have very different birthing techniques, very different.

Joss

I know Joss - I could hear it in your posts, that's what made me cry when I read them  kiss And I know that you would have an opportunity to shine like the birthing goddess you are if you were doing it today! Unfortunately women are still heading off in droves to the hospitals like lambs to the slaughter. With the rise in obstetrician-based care intervention is at an all time high, and informed decisions are still seen as 'alternative', 'kooky' and 'difficult'. I can only hope that more women and their partners begin to approach the miracle of birth with eyes wide open and that hospital, ultrasound technology, and intervention is reserved for those who TRULY need it...those who are really in an emergency situation, or have underlying medical issues that pose a high risk. Incidentally - the hospital's concept of high risk is definitely questionable, as often is their definition of emergency situation (in relation to pregnancy, labour, and birth). Trust your instincts, and if you do choose to have a care provider then choose an independent midwife. Perth people are fortunate in that there is a Community Midwifery Programme available so that homebirth is free. Otherwise you will be paying up to $5000 for a midwife. Australia is so far behind the rest of the world when it comes to birth and it is time for change!!!

Hugs to you my love  kiss

Hi Meg,
I am VERY interested to hear as much information as you can share on homebirthing, natural positioning, parenting etc.
I had up until quite recently never considered a homebirth due to the fear factor and being unsupported and scared of 'side effects', but the more I read and hear, I feel pulled greatly towards it, and it is definately the way I want to go when I am pregnant. Just stepping inside a hospital makes me feel automatically ill and as if there is somehting wrong with me, and have to play the victim!  Being at home in my own environment, with a bath, able to be naked as nature intended would be much more relaxing.
As you know, I am in Perth, and it is good to know there are places to get info from here. I am eager to know more.
Thank you for your passion and support of women trying to do as nature intended!

VM I have just finished reading your experiences of the birth of your three children, words can't describe the emotions I felt reading your story.

Someone once told me a story about a lady that gave birth to a still born baby and then a few years later had another baby girl and one day her daughter said to her mother, "mummy, when I was here before I am sorry I caused you so much pain"

Our years, days, moments, seconds on this earth plane are all limited and God has a bigger plan for us all, whether we have our own lessons in life to learn or to teach others.  I believe that before we transcend to the earth plane, we enter into a contract with God as to what our life journey will be and for our long.  Whether our experiences be happy or sad they are all part of the bigger picture, to grow spiritually.

Thanks for sharing

I have three children, and all were born at Mercy Hospital Perth.  I can only give high praise to the nursing staff (midwives) who gave great advice on positioning and basically assisted me with the help of my husband to deliver my babies (my DR didn't make it in time for any of my births - they came too quick). Mercy also offer water births or you can plan your deliver any way you wish. ie music etc.  All three births were uncomplicated easy births.  My last (Josh) was natural, drug free and I wasn't raw for any of them.  I do believe that because I was fit and still excersing through the pregancy and eating well, that I had uncomplicated births.

I am not saying that all hospital births are as easy as mine and at the slightest mishap your in for an emergency 'C' section or your administered drugs to ease the pain.  I felt that I could over come the pain by working through it with the midwives and the hubby and shear determination.

Please don't forget the midwives, they do a great job.  I said to my (DR, I would have the midwife deliver my babies any time - quitely mind you).

I think it is personal preference, as I said I can only speak from my own experiences, but go for it to those of you that want to have home births, more power to you  smiley  IT wasn't something that I had even considered.

I thank God I was born a woman to be able to experience the wonderful pleasure of giving birth (once the baby is delivered the pain goes immediately, I promise you).  I also thank God that I am blessed with 3 healthy children and I promise to guide them on the journey they are destined to live.

Good luck everyone, enjoy your pregnancy's and your births it is such a natural experience!!
