very warming, esp when i choke on a piece of chilli in my exuberance.... rolleyes

not bad for a gal who suffered chronic ibs all my life,pre-raw!and i was constantly told to AVOID RAW FOODS,cos they would make my ibs worse!! oh bollocks, that is so not the case...

Its not warming as such,  but raw sushi has become a once-a-week grounding, filling, satisfying recipe for us lately.

nori sheets
kibbled cauliflower / pine nuts / macadamias (in any combo)
slices of avocado, capsicum, carrots, cucumber, mushroom

mmmm  !

When we want nori rolls really quickly we just lay them out and fill... no special filling at all. Avocado, olives, greens, tomato etc just rolled in nori. It's yummy!!

Neet your salad sounds divine!!! i will have to try that one.

We all had sushi tonight, amazing that a raw dinner on a cold winters night is so satisfying, who says you need hot stoggy food.

Very much like Jen's.
Cauli, parsnip, jicama and a little parsley in the blender, spread on nori then add avo, tomato, carrot, sunflower sprouts and cucumber, very nice. Even better when you add home dried tomatoes!

for the boys I alway add nuts or seeds to the nori spread, usually cashews or sunflower, mine is always full of Kelp as i am a kelp fan, it looks too green for them!

Just like you Jen this is our Thursday night treat! Great that the whole family enjoys it but a lot of work for me......i don't mind though, It's all good!

Nearly forgot,

for dessert it's everyone favourite 'Bliss balls'

dates, sultanas, walnuts, almonds and freshly grated coconut processed to a paste then rolled into balls covered in the fresh coconut

and 'Choc Balls'

Cashews, dates, vanilla and Cacao Powder processed to a paste, rolled in balls then covered in the fresh coconut, the verdict from all the first time i made them was - 'that's real chocolate'.

have fun all
cheers
Karen

tomorrow night i am trying Neets!

Hey Karen,  Sorry i was a bit quick on the phone this morning, I was right in the middle of something and caught off guard! Thanks for calling, ..  I would have liked to chat a little longer! Maybe next time  x

I have never been able to find Jicama in Perth..  has anyone from Perth reading this had any such luck? What does it taste like?

Look like a cream coloured root vegetable, has the texture of apple, and tastes like a snow pea. That's what I think anyway!

They are about 29 cents a pound in the USA (they are as common as potatoes in California) and usually about $7 per kilo here organic. I love them.

Lately I've been using half jicama when I make nut pates... it really lightens it up.

Cheers,
Sheryl

i just tried jicama this week. we found it (in adelaide) at a chinese grocery. i think sheryl put a link up to a description on another forum post.

The asian grocers didnt call it jicama though, and i cant remember what it was that they called it- which makes it harder to ask for.

i'll go look for that other post..

.. found it: this was sheryls find, im tired and copied the link only and forgot which topic it was in, one of the journals i think..

here it is http://www.agric.nsw.gov.au/Hort/Fmrs/Asian_veg/yambean.htm
