Hi Ellie,
You're right, spinach is great. You can use any greens, but some greens are more bitter than others, but from what I have read, the bitter greens are the greens that are more nutritional for our bodies.
But if you're not wanting to drink a bitter smoothie, then spinach, silverbeet and lettuces. I'm sure others would give more ideas.
You can add some bitter greens in.....not enough so you can taste.....but enough so that you can get some benefit out of them.
Just add sweet fruit to compensate for that bitter taste perhaps.
With my kiddies, I use the spinach with sweet fruit like bananas, mangoes, peaches, berries.....whatever takes your fancy. They absolutely love it. I add alfalfa at times and other types of sprouts.
One piece of advice I would give is to make sure that you blend your greens first in the blender with a little water/coconut juice/home-made fruit juice, and then add your fruit in to blend. This will ensure that you don't get a "chunky" smoothie.
The options are only limited to your taste....and the more raw you become, your tastebuds change anyway!!!!
To start with perhaps add more fruit than greens if you're not used to "drinking" greens. As time goes by, perhaps you could increase the amount of greens and lessen the fruit amount. Perhaps start with quarter greens/three-quarters fruit then increase it from there. Others may have different opinions/ideas that they can give you too.
Good luck on your smoothie quest.
Luv
Rita
