I will keep my eyes open for you.. it's certainly the season. We bought a whole tray just two weeks ago! Funny because I thought we missed them a month or so ago. That must have been the early harvest.

I have one left but I think it was picked too early... it's not ripening. Still as hard as a baseball!

Will keep my eyes peeled for you!

Jen,

I'm so glad you enjoyed the green smoothie - initially I couldn't do the banana/orange juice thing, but now I can't not do it.  cheesy
I think my body is really used to it now, and there's no gurgling at all.  I tried a gs without dill the other day, and I missed it so much.  It's dill + orange juice.  They're great little mates I think.

I totally understand on the chocolate pudding fruit disappointment.  Did you throw yourself to the ground and beat your fists like a toddler?  That's what I would have wanted to do.  In fact, there are times I think it should be acceptable for an adult to do just that.  cheesy

I've only had black sapote once, and it was blended in a smoothie.  It rocked my wee socks off.

I am also fasting today Neet.  Ive had headaches for the last 4 days due to a neck/shoulder problem (my weak fibromyalgia muscle spot),  and Ive had enough!  Im not used to having any headaches anymore!  It feels foreign, and uncomfortable, and I dont like it.  So OUT, damn headaches.  I will probably break the fast tomorrow with something juicy, like ripe persimmon or oranges.  Its supposed to be about 22 degrees here today, so Im hoping to lay out in the garden to get some sun.   x

I drink gallons of orange juice with bamama blended in it. Its not an optimal combination but because I use a citrus press, I get pure juice so it does not have the unfortunate side effects athe juice plus pith might have,\.

Hi Toni - most people are using regular blenders... you're fine! I think Janita has some tricks to make the greens extra smooth, but I forget what they are... maybe she'll pop on and remind us.

Cheers,

Ok here I can answer truthfully.

For several years I have been using a normal blender to make green smoothies. First I tore the greens into small pieces and popped them into my blender adding 1 cup of water. Then I ran the blender until the greens were all completely  blended. Next I added 2 chopped pears and ran the blender again. Finally I added 1 more cup of water and several bananas and blended the lot until smooth.

When I poured it into a glass, it was smooth but had a somewhat marbled appearence.

Last week I received my vitamix blender*yay* and now I toss the lot in and blend. The finished product is velvery smooth and has a different mouth fell. It only takes about 30-40 sec blending time, so it must be better for me too.

The great part about the vitamix is that it has a big goblet and there is nothing under the blades that foods can stick to, so all it takes is a quick rinse to clean. Its so easy now.

Hey Toni,i have a blender which is not a Vitamix, and i just toss it all in and whizz it up,it is quite high powered and takes about two bursts of 20 secs to blend to a smooth silky gs...too easy..but depends on the power of your blender,in my previous one,i had to do my fruits firsts, tip into a jug then blend my greens, then blend all together, whatever you have, you can make it work,i believe where there's a will there's a way
Neet.

Hi Toni!

I just use a whizzstick / BahMix hand blender for my green smoothies.  Its much easier and quicker to clean!  Just make sure you add a cup or so of water/juice at the bottom so the stick has got some liquid to blend in.

hello, everyone smiley
i've discovered that using less water (began w/2c, then went to adding greens 1st then filling with water to the 2c level, then went to adding water to roughly cup and a half, now fill blender with everything and only add water to the 1c or so line!) really helps grind up the greens- even celery.
i had an older model vitamix that i wound up killing during a raw fudge escapade... the present blender is a $60 (US) oster model that came with a food processor attachment.

has anyone tried sage in their smoothie? had it yesterday~ purple sage, bartlett pear, couple nanas, water. lovely.

I make my green smoothies in a juicer. I put through the greens (chopped up) and fruit (chopped up) and then run the pulp through a couple of times until theres almost none left. The smoothies end up being super smooth coz in the juicer the fruit and greens get pushed through a grate with tiny holes so only the fine particles can get through. They still end up ultra thick though. I dont add any water.

Its great to hear all the different ways that people are making em.
