i remember wandering around as a vegetarian teen, trying to find one piece of junk food that didn't contain lard...
now, it's trying to find a place with a salad bar that has a clean sneeze guard...

hubby and i are constantly talking about how unconscionable it is for us to know the effects of preservatives and artificial ingredients and still allow the boys to eat them. by the end of the conversation i always feel we're on the same page regarding the boys health- then hubby brings home absolute garbage for supper. *sigh*

Like Joss every once in a while I browse the supermarkets looking at labels... a high percentage of cookies/biscuits here in Australia still use lard. Yuck! I would think even meat eaters would feel beef fat doesn't belong in sweets!

One of the TV channels in oz ran a story on the ingredients in cakes this week. They came to the inescapable conclusion that most ingredients are added to cakes to increase their shelf life, not for the benefit of consumers. At last the mainstrean media are noticing these things and reporting them.
