"every disciplined effort is met with multiple reward"

i read a story of a single mum whom was in a wheel chair from a car accident and had 9 mentally challenged children to look after. she had a violent ex whom would bash her to near death everytime he got out of jail for beating her previously. she had to keep moving around the country, kids n all. eventually she got a carer in to help with the load and that person sexually abused the children. and then she had to deal with that and the ongoing legal battles. a few years later one of the children electricuted himself with a knife in the toaster one breakfast. then she got breast cancer and managed to survive chemo and a double masectomy. the story ended with her eldest daughter slitting her wrists after getting raped by her father at gunpoint in front of the whole family.

it reminded me,
no matter how tuff we got it, some one , some where is getting tested by life more intensely.

for some reason i get informed on horrific events people face in their life.

i have some horrific stories from people that i dont feel appropiate putting on the web.

pretty much, you can think of the worst case scenario imaginable, and some has one worse than that. and someone is living that!

something to remind ourselves when the walls seem to be crashing in.

on a brighter note. i ran 4 minutes last night and it was my longest run since being in asia. my technique felt the best in my whole life!

i put this down to the daily 60 second runs i had been doing the last 4 weeks.

more than ever am i experiencing that consistency is key!

its been like 5 or 6 weeks since i started my daily disciplines.

my running technique continues to improve and last night felt inspired to get off my bike up a hill and run with my bike to the crest!

the daily minimum of 12 pushups often ends up being more.
have noticed increase of size and strength in my pecs and arms.

daily 10 seconds stretching each leg has gotten me closer to doing the splits than ever before.

whats my purpose of this reply?

consistency counts. some is better than none. start of with 5 seconds of jogging, skipping or pushups or pushing your wheelchair up a slight incline or on grass, etc etc.

no more reasons, not to exercise. only excuses.

absolutely consistenency is def the key to health vitality and overall fitness and glowing body!

yay for raw,but you can't just eat well and not exercise too,one goes hand in hand with the other,it's a package deal as far as i'm concerned..

On our hols,i was beating up the treadmill and exercise bike and powerwalking, the second week i powerwalked and ran,and did lots of stair running, infact any chance i got i was moving,oh and long walks on the beach too, delicious!

You guys are inspiring. I have been sticking to my vow also .. 20-25 kms running and 40-50 bicep curls per week. I've also been swinging a mattock in the vegie garden a few days a week.. definitely a workout. Upper body is more toned, pecks and biceps al little bigger.

Years ago I used to keep a fitness diary, measuring vo2 consumption using the Kenneth Cooper system.. anybody into that sort of thing?

I've ordered a big trampoline, so I'm looking forward to that. I wouldn't mind one of those inversion stretching machines.. anyone got opinions on those? My flexibility is poor.

Totally concur about raw not being enough, Neet, and about consistency being key. They work together, don't they... raw food and exercise, that is.

absolutely do Brett...

I was driving past a house the other day and saw 2 little kids jumping up and down on the big tramp' i wanted desperately to stop and jump on there with them, thought their mother might come and chase me off the property with her broom....so i'm going to ask hubby if we can get one, even  a little one would be fun, ahhh it's that inner child with in ....

brett you're doing fantastically with your workouts...can just see you in the back yard swinging the mattock!! thwack thwack...*grin*

Intro some gentle stretches daily, and then you will find your flexibility will improve.Do you include salt in your diet? as i have read that can have a negative effect on your joints and muscles and could hamper your flexibility?I don't eat any added salt, get enough from my organic fruits and vegies...

How's those 60 sec sprints a comin H?

i dont sprint full on as im still recovering from a knee injury. just run and let my knees decide the pace. today ran 3 km with no pain.

on my walk today i decided to call my daily 12 pushups 'the testostorone 12!". as they always give me a pump if i do em with force and focused technique.

every animal moves to get food.
since we are animals aswell, its great if we move too.

nothing tastes better than a well earned raw vegan meal!

Thanks Neet, I do some basic leg stretches before I run, but I need a lot more. I'm hoping to use the trampoline for that too.. I can't wait til it arrives. Some yoga would probably be good. I wonder if you and Harley think that it's possible to do too much? You hear about extreme fitness athletes burning out.

As a serious workout "junkie",yeeeeeeeeeeeers it is possible to over do things!(right Karen*grin*)BRETT.....

it's important when we work out hard,to rest and i mean full rest ,hard too! and get plenty of sleep,so we have a balance, and gasp,(for me) it actually doesn't hurt to have a lighter day of exercise at least once a week, perhaps an hour walk instead of our usual burn baby burn!

H,glad your knee is healing up,you little adrenalin junkie you(takes one to know one rolleyes

my fav place to stretch is in bed at the end of the day. or on the beach after sleeping in the sun after training.

my v02 in the csiro lab, on the bike is 78 and running is 76.

most pro athletes burn out cos of the hard hormone, stimulant, blood boosting drugs and mountains of cooked food they have consumed.

its hard to imagine the smoking, kfc eating, world class athletes i personally know, avoiding eventual burn out.

these days, i dont fear burn out, burn out fears me! (i will try and say that and smile , next time im riding the nullabor headwinds and attempting 2000km weeks..)

but yes you can over do it. but im yet to meet some one whom is doing all the right things and still burn out.

the body has amazing strength.

the old saying" drink lots, eat right, get plenty of sleep, go like hell!"

Not burning out is important to me. I have a tendency to get carried away, once I start something. Last time I got caried away with fitness, I was much younger, and burnout was never an issue (or a danger), but now I'm older, and not as bullet proof.. least not quite.. yet.

hydration, rest, stretching, carb intake(fruit) and gradual increase in training. ie 10% per week, will keep us on the path of burning away self doubt rather than burning out..
