Is anyone aware of any raw communities in Hawaii
or any particular areas that are more health orientated ?
Like Byron in Aus. for instance ?

In general, the Big Island (the island of Hawaii) is the most agricultural and thus seems to have the most raw foodist-type communities...

Kaua'i, the smallest inhabited island, known as the garden isle, is favoured by many naturalists also, since it is less touristy.  The land, vegatation, sands and ocean is so abundant in beauty.

Despite not specifically looking for fellow raw foodists, when I went to either the Big Island or Kauai,  I immediately met up with ,and stayed with raw foodists.  It was fun, eating lush raw meals, and foraging for coconuts and avocados, and sungazing with other raw passionate beings!

Kaua'i is in my heart.  I love the island...

I like the big island too...Pele energy...

ohhhhhhhhhhhh, I am feeling all dreamy and reminiscient about sandy beaches edged by tropical rainforest, and soaring canyons and ocean side cliffs dropping into turqoise seas...and dolphins and whales....

the ancient wisdom in the turtles eye....

mmmmm, Hawaii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey MissBliss,   I dont know anything about it myself, but noticed it mentioned a few times here and on other posts ....

What exactly is sun gazing and what are the benefits/dangers?

I drive with sunglasses on, but try to have sunnie-free time in the sun, whilst I have never actually looked directly _at_ it ....  having been brought up to not stare into it.

Do you look directly at the sun, or around it?

You can read more here: http://www.sungazing.com/

HRM was interviewed on Best Day Ever. He's actually been studied under controlled conditions by NASA scientists; they basically kept him for 411 days on only water and he did not lose weight.  That's over a year with no food.

Personally I haven't investigated sun gazing. I am curious. I do know that people that practice it do so at morning and dusk, when the intensity of the sun is lower.

There is more to life than we see! I do know that.

Cheers,
Sheryl

Hi Jen!  The link Sheryl gave is one of the most popular links.  I stare straight into the sun, despite the fact that I was brought up like most of us, to not do that.  I have had beautiful experiences doing this...feeling lighter and as though my being is being nourished by one of the purist sources of food.  Since it has been winter and I am on the south side of a hill I have been missing the sun.

Sunglasses are not for me.  Whenever the sun is present I am aware of myself being most receptive to receiving its lushous rays....i feel myself absorbing the suns energy, and feel so strong and energized, and in love with life...

HRM has a practical method with how to get started....building up slowly with just a few secs to begin with etc. then jumping in increments of 10 secs...standing on the earth barefoot too is usual, with sungazing.  At first it is so bright the eyes close and squint, but if you tell yourself to relax and just stay with it, your eyes eventually trust your gentle mental direction.....and can maintain open soft gazing...the visual experience can be quite incredible...

Happy to see curious minds exploring things once considered unusual...

I learned sungazing from my Indian neighbor who has met HRM.  I did it for a couple of months but wasn't consistent.

I'm now inspired to start it up again...especially since it's summer over here and I wake up at dawn these days (dawn & dusk are the 2 times when you sungaze).

Aloha,

I would like to connect with more raw foodies in Hawaii!
I live on the Big Island in Kona and have not met anyone here who is into raw. I have been off and on and have recommitted several times to the lifestyle.  It would be great to have some support.

Miss Bliss (Veronique! lol)  you are so right about Big Island energy - I feel it most when I go "off island" and reconnect with it again on my return.   I lived on Kauai for 5 years also and it has its own very mellow, slow but vibrant energy.  Parts of Kauai feel amazing Ke'e beach is one - it has an ancient heau (sp) which is a spiritual sacred area where I would swear you can feel spirits around you.

I am a kiwi although lived for many years in Cairns and Gold Coast - so any one from down under in Hawaii I would love to connect with.

Hawaii is one of my favourite places in the world. We had someone from Hawaii at our dinner last night, and she was near a raw food restaurant called Joy's (something I don't remember). It sounded like there was a good raw food scene where she was.

When I was last in Kona a couple of years ago some of the health food shops we found carried some specialty raw food products. It was very exciting to find. I'm sure other raw foodists are there!! I know the Vegetarian Society at Waikiki has a strong raw movement within it too (Dr Ruth leads it and she is an ultra cool raw foodist marathoner and triathlete). They might have some contacts for you.

Great to see you here!

Hi Sheryl

thanks for the info - I will check out Dr Ruth and the Vegetarian Society.  I think Joys is on Maui?  I have heard of raw food workshops and retreats there.

We do have good health food stores here and can get lots of organic veggies and fruit at the local farmer markets and even Safeway has a great organic section now.  No trouble getting sprouted bread, raw honey etc.

Let me know if you plan any more trips here ok

Hi Sheryl,

I'm way way late here.
I somehow became "mislayed" haha

Anyway, back in July you said you had PM'd Huh? me
some information.
I didn't get it and I don't actually know what PM means...
Would  you be able to do it again please ?
Although, I'm not AS keen about Hawaii now since I've
returned home to the coast of NSW.
After being in New York State for 6 months I have a
newfound appreciation for my own beautiful coastal town
with it's pristine beaches.....

love, toni
