according to dr douglas graham, 2% body fat is not 'to low' for a raw vegan male.

Men have very low body fat compared to females. According to the same source, only elite female body builders have 9% body fat. We all need fat on our bodies for hormonal health too.

I guess the guys at 2% are elite athletes.

yep,men have much less body fat than us gals...last time i measure mine was around 14% that was around 5 months ago...have lost more fat since then...i really think that a SAD eating woman or man,cannot be compared with a RAw vegan eating man or woman...obviously if we are eating low fat,ect then we are obviously going to have much less body fat...it is peachy keen being lean...*grin*

I would love to hear what some of the 5 or so Personal Trainers (Katie, Simon, Newlearaw, Squidly, someone else?) on this forum think about raw vegan body fat percentages and what is / isnt healthy?   x  x

I found this on one site:

Minimum body fat recommendations:
    * Men: 3-6%
    * Women: 12-15%

Average body fat:
    * Men: 15%
    * Women: 24-26%

I think below 10% body fat is when most women stop menstruating... but I'm sure that varies. 2% isn't that much lower than the 3-6% listed above... it does sound rather low to me though! I think many men are happy to hit single digits!

As I have posted on this forum I have increased my fat intake over winter. I was looking at some of my latest photo the other day and I have really fat cheeks. So now I am back on a low fat diet (again)

I agree with those minimum fat recommendations as a whole.

However, I think the average estimate of women being 24-26% must have been taken some years ago....

A LOT of my women clients who are put on a body fat percentage scale are 30-50% fat!  Anyone who watched Gillian McKeith's 'You Are What You Eat' tv show would also remember some of those people were 50% + fat content. There are millions of Australian's who are the same size.

With the number of overweight and obese people in the world now greater than the number of 'malnurished' people (although overweight people are actually cellular-malnurished too), it is a scary thought.

I used to work in a place that had people coming in to weight themselves on the body fat scale, and most 'average' middle aged white women were definately above 30% fat.

Thats a lot of engorged fat cells!  ...  and a lot of mineral-starved dehydrated cells too.  What a weight to carry around!  Literally, a burden.

My guess is they mean the 'average' healthy woman... do you suppose? That's what I always took it to be. I know that the country wide average is climbing every year, with a HUGE number officially obese too.

On TV Wednesday night they said that compared to 20 years ago the average person is 7kg heavier! If you take out those that are not overweight, then it would be even higher.....pretty SAD I say.

hey everyone,
in all honesty all i hear all day from everyone is about numbers and numbers and percentages and percentages and how it rules there lives and how their unhappy or slightly happier than two weeks ago because of what number they see.
 People its a number! some digits infront of you cannot seriously own you that much can it? Are we so controlled by what two or three numbers are saying to us? I urge you to smash any scales you might own or ever see anywhere.

 Way to much emphasis on were someone needs to be or is recomended to be by someone else or a chart in a doctors office or what little timmy says on his internet site pretending to be a doctor! A number people a....number 123456789! Ive seen lives ruined and people sad and depressed, unhapy and self destructive because of a number! Again i say A NUMBER!
 Be happy and alot of you are i can see that as so many of you write but see how much happier you become when theres no numbers flashed in your face by Raw vegan martyrs and doctors and trainers and magazines and tv, i know its everywere but please 2% 10% 50% who realy cares? We just want to judge and be judged.......

a number....... think about it

Hey veganwolf,

Welcome!  Dare I say it to a wolf - but, well, I like your name.

Personally, I don't like numbers, but I think that's because I don't have a head for them - they make me dizzy.  But, some people like numbers.  That is what it is.  Nothing more.

That said, I recently had blood testing done, and I paid attention to the numbers.  At least for a day, and then I just went my own way.  I think that's what you'll find most people do - see it, read it, ponder it and talk about it a bit, and then carry on regardless.

You mentioned 'judgement' with regard to people who place weight in numbers.  It is judgement too if we rail against those people, is it not?

A good bold post from you for number 1.  Oops - forgive the number. Wink

miss g

welcome Veganwolf....dare i say we aren't obsessesed about numbers,this is an open forum where every one is free to air their views,topics of interests or concerns...it's nice to be able to discuss things without judgement or critisism don't you think...and i may even venture to say that,no lives are being ruined here today whilst we merrily discuss percentages of body fat,and how they vary between raw and cooked food bodies...if it isn't a topic of interest to you,perhaps don't read it,or focus on the topics that you do enjoy... cheesy

again a warm welcome to the forum,we are a friendly open bunch here...
