The whole karma concept is flawed...even though I aprreciate it's original intent it ignores some basic realities.

The fact that someone can even be hurt by the removal of a karma point says it all.

I've never given or removed a point from anyone.

The realities the karma system ignores are:

1) Not everyone is "nice" regardless of what their diet is.

2)Why should anyone feel "good" or "bad" from the gaining or removal of a karma point? If you have heaps of karma points it just means the karma-point-players agree with you...whoopy-do...I simply must be a good person if that's the case...(ahem).

3) The karma point system doesn't take into account the variance of the depth or indeed value of an individuals post to the community as a whole. Some people offer nothing more than simple encouragement ( and that's fine) and are far less likely to be deducted karma points than others who question or pose challenging views. Based on that alone it's an imbalanced and foundationally flawed system.

4) Not everyone uses the system...once again creating a value-imbalance (voting isn't compulsory).

5) In any community you are going to get clicky groups and members who gravitate to certain individuals with similar views and are repelled by others views and comments regardless of any actual merit (or otherwise).

6) Karma points can be (and obviously have been) used as a weapon.

I could go on...but seriously, it is a majorly flawed system and I believe it should be removed...it serves no purpose whatsoever other than to massage egos or the opposite.

Lol I wonder...can I gripe against myself and keep all my karma points at zero?

;-)

"You can't report your own post to the moderator, that doesn't make sense! "

Gee I can't even report myself to a moderator....

John <----walks away sulking....

Awwww John, I'm here now. there there. All better? You are now moderated. But I didn't touch your post? How does that work? John, I did my best mate, I truly did but your words have been so exemplary that I can find no fault. You must try harder to be naughty.
