I've been craving chocolate all day today, so I thought I'd make chocolate icecream, as I had a couple of frozen bananas kicking around the freezer.
Ingredients:
2 small frozen bananas
Zest of 1 orange*
2-3 dessertspoons raw cacao powder
1 tablespoon dark agave
2 teaspoons coconut oil
Method:
I just popped all ingredients into the blender and blended until creamy. You need to scrape down the sides a couple of times until it all comes together into a gorgeous "soft serve" consistency.
I filled a Japanese tea cup with half the mixture, and then I popped in 2 huge frozen strawbs and blended again until the strawberries had defrosted and combined. Second variation into another tea cup, and into the freezer.
* Using the zest of a whole orange gives this quite an intense orange flavour (perhaps a little too intense). You could use half the amount of zest.
The strawberry variation is my favourite, as it seems to tone down the orange hit - it's beautiful, and with a choc nut base, and dark chocolate icing would make a fantastic icecream cake.
Ooh, it's nice being a grownup sometimes - you can choose to have chocolate icecream only for dinner.
