I bring this up for a very specific reason. I have read of many who are told their baby is 'abnormal' and in some cases constipated because they don't defacate enough. I have also read that because breastmilk is so perfect a food for babies most is absorbed, and that breastmilk fed babies poo WAYYYYYY less than formula fed babies. Can mothers on the board comment on this for those of us that have yet to have this experience (some will very soon though)!!!

Thank you!

i don't know about this....both my babies pooed frequently in the beginning,  (little & often) gradually reducing the frequency of poos until around 5 months-ish when they just did one a day.

one thing i have noticed, is that i have gathered from mainstream parenting circles that many people find the smell of baby poo to be offensive.  i find this interesting as i LOVE the smell of my breastfed babies poop.  i find it delightful, just as i do their sweet-milky breath....is it just me???  i wonder how much of this is diet, how much is due to nappy use, and also mental perceptions?  probably a bit of each.

I breastfed my daughter for 2 years until she weaned herself and she pooed just fine - and with no problem. She had the runs sometimes and normal at others - seemed no different to other babies her age though she was certainly less constipated than any of her friends. Hope this helps

Go teh breastfeeding - is wonderful for them and for mother.

It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare .....but because we do not dare that things are difficult!
