Mainstream nutrition seems to really advocate taking folate supplements in the lead up to pregnancy... looking for a little raw advice on this.. Is it just beacuse the SAD diet is so lacking in folate, or do you actually need more folate around the time of conception than at other times of your lives.
Would a good balanced raw diet have you covered, or would it be important to increase intake of folate rich raw food prior to conception?
Lots of mainstream info out there but I'm keen to hear from a raw perspective.

I am amazed by how much you wonderful mums know and are willing to share about your mothering experiences. Thank you!

another subject i cant give personal experience on..

but all the raw mums whom give birth to the healthiest, happiest, beautiful kids i know, down massive green smoothies before, during and after conception.

celery and lettuce being the main 2.

folate is a heat sensitive vitamin, like most vitamins is lost in the cooking process. and like protein , will show up when tested for in cooked foods but will be in a coagulated state the body finds toxic.

like giving your builder melted iron poles to build the garage.... or crisp new ones that are ready to roll!

hi bella .. my choice was for dietary folate only....plenty in greens, & greens absorb superbly when blended up so as dr said...greensmoothies!!  there are so many nutrients baby needs, & so many toxic element s/he doesn't!  every now & then a new one pops up which authorities make aware to the population, but it doesn't necessarily apply to everyone (supplements etc).  there are some people out there who get plenty of folate anyway!
