Hi To All The Green Smoothie Lovers,

Iv'e noticed there is a lot of talk about green smoothies on this site.

I'm wondering if I am missing out on something.  Am  I being over concerned about food combining?  Because my digestion wasn't that great when I started going raw I have been pretty much into eating only so called 'good' combinations.  Which is fruit with lettuce and/or celery.  These are the only 2 vegetables that I know of that are recommended to have with fruit.

I have heard that if you try and mix up more complex combos the nutrients in the meal wont be absorbed as well and you will get fermentation and that the fermentation has the same effect on the liver as alcohol.

I would be interested to hear your comments.

Thanks....

Peace...

Lindi.

hi lindi...all sweet fruits combine well with green leafy's and celery...so whipping them up in a gs,say, bananas, mango and rocket or whatever green leaves...will combine smoothly...if you want less of a load on digestion, have green juices first(minus the fibre)or don't make the gs so thick....it is sublime, and the ultimate for minerals and balancing the body, and particularly any cravings you may be experiencing in the transitioning phase...

I too had the confusion with Green leafs... it appears that green leaves are cosidered neutral and combine well with anything.  I'm happy with that... as the only way I can get most of my greens is via a green smoothie (60% fruit and 40% greens).

Victoria actually says that greens should be in their own food combining category and combine very well with fruits. Most who try it find she's right!!

A clear distinction needs to be made between green leaves and vegetables...  they are very different!!

Thanks Jen, what about snow pea sprouts, would they be green leafies or vegetables?

I view sprouts as in between....  and would happily throw them into either a sweet or a savoury green smoothie!

Hi All

Quick question huh I love my green smoothies I take em first thing in the morning and take em to wrok in a thermos .
I have noticed them forming a foaming top ...I usually just give it a shake and its ok ...but it just occured to me huh am I adding too much greens and not enought water?

My smoothies usually consist of soaked dates grapes or pears frozen bananas 2 types of greens and what I call a flavour green ie basil or parsley or mint or some herb that will add zing to my say spianch rocket or whatever green.

Anyhow I am going to try out more newer recipies as I have been doing this type of recepie for about a year and my body is asking for new flavours now.

I used to drink more water but since introducing green smoothies I don't should I still try to drink water too as well as green smoothies?

Cheers

I made a green smoothie today with organic dates and fresh cacao nibs.  I've never been much of a date eater, but this smoothie was a divine experiment.  Do you think it is a good idea to combine dates with the green smothie?  My stomach didn't seem to mind...

Hi Aguacate,  I have certainly used dates in my smoothies and I'm sure Neet does too.  If it's good enough for Neet it's good enough for me.

When sweet fruit is hard to find they're great for adding the missing sweetness too.

i just read in some posts here that Dates were used in some recipes with greens...
was interested too... to me i prefer use dates with some fatty fruits like avos, jackfruits, coconuts e.g. if i would use other sweet fruits together with dates i would add one sort of a light sort of greens like Wheatgrass, lettuce, endivia for example...

Neet the miniature gladiator.  Eat men for breakfast and spit 'em out laughing afterwards.

Glad I wasn't at the 21st party but it would have been interesting to see those guys cycle back down the hill more drunk than when they needed help up it!!!
