got interviewed about my rawness the other day. thought it might be helpful for some.
1. why am i a health hero? cos i go into kitchens and turn off fires and save lives! lol! no im just an average dude whom loves animals, people and the planet. and over time concluded an exclusively raw plant food diet helps support and enhance my relationship with everything im in contact with. 2. ive been 100% raw for over a year now, and vegan for close to 6. a typical day is wake with a few glasses of filtered water or stream water if im out in the jungle. then a morsel of fruit and a few hours training on the bike. lunch is as much fruit as i care for. up to 20lbs! dinner same but followed by a simple salad with no dressing or maybe some lemon and organe juice poured over it. basically its fruit and greens. ive just committed to a year of nut n seed free to give my liver a cleanse. i got out socially quite a bit, now its salads more than raw pizzas or pastas. which is even easier cos salads are everywhere but raw pizza not YET! lol! so im eating typicall 80% carbs, 10% protein and 10% fat. just like every other elite level athlete out there. and dr doug graham helped and inspired me to stay raw. now its easy, cos i know what to do. 3. do i exercise? ONLY IF I WANT TO EAT! lol! i race bikes and ride up to 321miles solo in a day. last friday i cycled 100miles and on sunday i ran a 3:24 marathon in san jose california. ive cycled across australia, europe, asia and west coast of america on raw plant food. i won 24 hour solo mountain bike races and did a race in france that was 1243km. paris brest paris. i was first unsupported rider in the world and did it in 51:30 with 40 minutes sleep. all raw. i do something everyday, some yoga, running, biking, weights, kickboxing.. what ever. i dont have a car, so i ride to get my fruit. and fruit up to get my ride in! lol! 4. what are my fav 3 raw foods? fruits veg and vegetable fruits! what i love about being raw vegan is all the variety that all of a sudden appears in front of you. all of a sudden i find new shops, cafes, orchards, wild foods, people, events, internet sites, parites... ITS OFF THE SCALE! last year i was in thailand, i got 4th in the world durian speed eating championships. i got prize money and on national tv. INSANE! paid to eat my favourite fruit, as fast as i could and on tv. if you want magic n more, go the raw! this year i was there for 3 months in malaysia and thailand, i cycled singapore to bangkok on durian safari, decemating village durian stocks and riding to the next unsuspecting village with a wallet full of cash for the durian farmers. i win, they win, the forrests win. its win win all the way to the beach with a bag full 'o' durians! 4. what peice of advice would i give my biggest fan? if you want to stay raw, associate more pain than pleasure to cooked food. when eating cooked food is more painful than pleasureable you will emotinally and physically detach from it. this happened to me after a few years of transitioning. one day after a rice feed, i looked in the mirror and said "enoughs enough! i dont feel nice on rice! its time to stop being a bore, get off the floor, get some raw past my jaw and get out the door!" or something like that..lol! but yeah, pain/pleasure ratio applies to everything. then i asked how can i meet my carb needs as an ultra endurance cyclist who trains up to 50 hours a week on the bike? answer was FRUIT! and lots of it! "but fruit doesnt fill me up! " i hear you say! i used to feel the same, until i ate 45lbs in 10 hours! then i knew the 'hunger pangs' felt in the stomach are not hunger but just the stomach moving and adjusting, and often a cry for water. now i dont get hunger pangs in the stomach, but a gentle pleasent feeling in the mouth and upper throat. learning the difference between thirst, hunger and appetite made a big difference to me. so if you athletic you need to keep your sugar stores up. time and time again i see people undertaking a more activity based lifestyle but failing to meet their daily carb needs and falling off the exercise wagon. fruit is the best carbs for humans period. i will challenge any drug free rider to a highway endurance duel who disaggrees! lol! 5. anything else you want to add? go raw for yourself, nobody else. that makes it sustainable rather than just obtainable. understand youll cop flack from family and friends who think youll waste away. they are sincere but SINCERELY WRONG. give em my email if you want to. im still waiting for that highway duel! lol! on raw i dont sleep anymore! i wait! for the next adventure! read up from raw authors whom have the success you desire. it might be victoria boutenko for her enthusiasim and wit, nora lenz for before and after pictures, david wolfe for his positive persistance, dr doug graham for his animal fitness and nutrition simplicity, dr tim trader for his steroid sized biceps!, charlie abel for a ripped body, elaina love for mind blowing food, david klein for compassion and understanding, tonya kay for being a trailblazing transient raw vegan glamour, storm and jinjee's ebooks on how to raise a family and still be buff! and a host of others.. my fav books are sunfood diet success system for its positive raw attitude, raw eating by aterhov for unfiring us all up, 80 10 10 and nutrition and athletic performance by dr doug graham 12 steps to raw by victoria boutenko. you cant saturate yourself with too much good info! nothing becomes truth until it vibes with your common sense! it aint just about raw food, its about getting lots of sleep, rest, sun, fun, adventure, water and wackyness in ya day! best of mango magic to ya and fruitspeed on your journey! THANKYOU!
