Hi there from Tassie. I was soooooooooo excited when I found this site! :bounce:

I believe the raw food lifestyle has been hunting me down for years, but I have ignored it.  I don't want to anymore.  I finished my job as a cook in a cafe in October, I couldn't do it anymore - serving people food that was not good for them.  I had wondered if I was meant to do something totally different, not involving food.  But I now believe that God has given me my health struggles, compassion for others, and creative flare for a reason.  I would like to take up the challenge of experimenting with different raw recipes and being an encouragement and inspiration to others.  I mainly have experience in the catering field, but I don't know if I can go back into a standard track cooking job.  I'm willing to go anywhere, to work along side others who've been on this journey longer than me.   I'm definately a hands on, practical kinda gal, but I'm willing to study and have wondered if that is where I should start.  Now that I know I have a raw community out there, it's not so bad.  I don't feel on my own anymore.  :D

If anyone has any ideas, don't hesitate to throw them my way.  I've just started work at a Bed & Breakfast/apricot orchard mainly cleaning but might have to cook breaky too (eggs & bacon   )  They plan to open a cafe in March and have already ask me work in it, but can I do it?  I don't know if I can go through it again, but I need work. Please HELP!  Smiley

Sometimes even regular jobs give us opportunities to experiment and use our creative talents. I wonder if you could use the B&B job as an outlet for experimenting with raw foods? Maybe help them add a fancy fruit salad to the breakfast, or some delicious salads to other meals they might offer at the cafe? Sell it to them as a niche offering which could help them gain a step above their competitions. Call it the Health Spa `option` and sell the owners as using this as a possibility to step above their competitions. Offer 'spa' meals that will increase energy and help people improve their health, instead of the fattening bacon and eggs breakfast offered by others that saps energy and lowers health. I seriously think we're on to something here!!!  If they do this we'll even do a write up about them on the site and promote the fact that they are offering healthy fare. You can reference lots of places around the world doing similar things to help convince them. They'd be at the front of the pack here I think as well... Australia is just starting on the raw health journey.

A couple of years ago when I worked as a programmer at a bank I enjoyed the relationship building way more than the technical side of things. I ended up working as a project manager where my people skills were the most important of all. I loved it! Work to make this opportunity something that juices you.. if it's not possible start looking for other `option`s.

Working at the cafe could also help you gain experience that you might use one day to open your own raw food cafe. You just never know. It's all about what you focus on, and how you take the learning opportunities you get each day. The time is coming soon in Australia when the first raw cafe will open. I know Piers and I will work hard to promote and support whoever does this. Many have asked if we're moving in this direction, but at this time it's not something we're interested in. We'll support whoever does though!

I love the smiley you chose for the bacon and eggs! Funny! Years after I went vegetarian I still occasionally cooked chicken for my parents and sister at family dinners. I got so grossed out when I did that my mom stopped me, hoping I'd forget how yucky it was and start eating meat again. I'm happy to say.. NOT... that day will never come. I still occasionally crave other vegetarian foods I'd rather not eat, but meat, fish and eggs are WAYYY off my acceptable list.

Thanks so much for joining the forum Lou.. and please let us know how you get on.

Cheers,
Sheryl

PS When we were away Piers wrote you a HUGE response... it's not here though... so I have no idea where it went!

Hey Lou!

It's interesting, we were just up visiting Hippocrates and talking to a couple of people up there and it was amazing how the biggest challenge for them was finding the time to prepare their own food. As anyone in business for a while knows, a challenge for the public, is an opportunity for businesses to provide an answer. In this case what people REALLY wanted was raw catering services that could make and deliver food to their door so they didn't need to worry about "cooking". They were prepared to pay. They wanted raw. There just wasn't anyone providing the service they were REALLY wanting to pay for.  Anyway, something to think about when deciding what you're going to do... (Or if you've already decided we'd love to hear what's happening!)

Cheers!

Piers

Wow! Thanks Piers Wink Your reply really topped off my day nicely :D I'm still on the searching trail, but when I read your email...it got my blood pumping and I got excited once again :D I know that this is the direction I need to take. The how, when's and where's I don't know. I've been thinking about moving to the Gold Coast. As to where I'd live, work etc. I'm not exactly certain. The big m word is the issue I guess (money). I want to learn and grow from others who've been on the raw food journey longer than me (as I still eat some cooked...hmm), so that in turn I'll be more equiped to help others. The thought of living in a place where there's at least a few people near-by that don't think I'm nuts for wanting to eat this way, would be so incredibley amazing.  If you hear of any work that would suite me, then please let me know.  I'll send you my resume if you like.
