So, I have always loved coconut, but until recently I had never tried a young coconut. Let's just say that they are my dream food (and drink). I know that mature coconuts are really high fat etc and so should be eaten sparingly - what about young coconuts? They must have a different nutrient composition...please...  rolleyes

If I were to let loose with wild and carefree abandon I could happily eat ten a day... anyone got ideas on how many is 'reasonable' for a person to consume.....!?! (the correct answer is - yes, eat them as and when you desire...  cheesy )

Too many is when you're completely broke and can't afford anymore! Lol.
They do have a much lower fat content than mature coconuts though, so you're in luck - 100g mature coconut is approximately 39g fat wheres 100g young coconut is approx 3.9g fat. Yep, there's about 10 times as much fat in the mature ones!
If you want to get close to 10 a day without spending too much, go to Trans Emporium in Northbridge - they're $16 for a tray of nine. I assume you're currently getting them at Woolies, where they are more than twice that.

I think you know you have a young coco addiction when Monday morning finds you sitting outside Trans at 8.25am, waiting for them to open! Yes, this is what I did yesterday!  cheesy

Thanks Freedom - your words are music to my ears re the fat content! Yes - I am getting them from Trans Emporium. I'm the person who has phoned Trans every second day for the last 3 or 4 weeks to ask if the young coconuts are in yet...Greg left work early yesterday to buy me three boxes of coconuts. The woman on the phone laughed when I expressed concern as to whether or not they had enough...she said - but we have just received an entire containerload!...to which I replied, yeah - but other people might want some too.....

www.sunrisecoconuts.com

Just give him a call and he can send bags of coconuts to many parts of Australia. I'm not sure is Tasmania is on his list. You could try though.

I've posted his details many times... we get coconuts from him about once a month.

Cheers,
Sheryl

PS Your order is already on its way!
