Hi Everyone,
I have finally convinced myself that I am going to give this ago and see where I get. I'm a little aussie who has been intrigued by the lovely Janita since meeting her and as she will know I was a very sick little girl. I have had a very rough last 4 years and have slowly crawled my way out of a hole that was all consuming and I am now reaping the rewards from the changes I have made in my life.
I have been scared I guess about trying this as my will power is terrible, but from reading the few posts I have it looks like you all seem to have little 'trips' at times. I guess I will just have a few more in the beginning.  smiley
hope to get to know all of you well

Katarina,

welcome ! you have made a health choice and you are to be congratulated for that. Janita has certainly had a huge healthy influence on my life. she is a gentle, loving, giving teacher who will help steer you in the right direction. make use of her knowledge and gentle spirit. to count her as a friend is truly special.

if you look at a marathon you will see that they all start at the same place, some at the same time. it is not where they start that counts but where they finish. some will not finish the race. if you look further behind the marathon runners you will see that they all started running the same way. a little by little. they probably run the same - 1 foot after the other not allowing themselves to think oh 1km down only 41. whatever to go. the mind is too powerful to be given that sort of advantage - you can make your mind work for you or against you -your choice. Myself i swim - if i allow myself to think too far in advance i am sunk - literally -he he. it is al labout being in the here and now -allowing yourself to be present making mistakes and learning.

enjoy yourself and give yourself permission to make mistakes and learn in this marathon called life. you will learn heaps along your journey to raw.

love n light to you

Hi Kat,

Welcome to the forum. Great choice! Lucky you to count Neet as one of your friends. She is one of the most amazing people I've ever not met!

Will power... If you are like me you will feel so much better on raw that you will find that you need will less and less. I've only managed 8 days at a time. I usually eat one cooked meal on a weekend. Weekends seem to be the hardest time for a lot of people but I feel awesome!

I'm sorry you have been so unwell. Best wishes.

I love what you said Speedy. This advice is very timely for me too - my mind has a tendency to worry about the future too much.

I wish you all the very best in your journey Katarina. There is a mountain of support here on this forum and you are very fortunate to have Neet's guidance in your journey - she has truely helped me in mine. I too have health challenges and I've had my ups and downs in going raw, but the ups gradually get bigger and the downs gradually get smaller, and the benefits get bigger and bigger each time.

"the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step" - and you have just made yours. Congratulations!

Much love,

Jenny

To all those lovely people who wrote the above,
I cannot believe that I got through this day at all. I had a dreadful sleep (suffer really badly with insomnia) and managed about 2hours and when the alarm went off for school I was not in the least motivated to get up and going. Yet I pushed myself and got out to make a green smoothie to start the day. I am sure that this was the only thing that keep me going today, as by 2pm I had the most dreadful sleep deprived headache.
I made enough to take to school in my little new thermos and I actually have a fridge in the classroom to keep it cold so the extra boost at recess was great. I have actually had raw all day. Took a huge load of grapes, mango, watermelon (and ate the seeds Neet!!) apple and peach with me to have with recess and lunch. Oh and some nuts. Came home quiet early and instead of a alcoholic beverage for finishing work I made myself a watermelon smoothie. Just making a rather gigantic salad for dinner - not sure yet if I will have anything cooked as I am making dinner for dad too, but the way I feel at the moment I dont think I will.
I have found the recipes and juices/smoothies that say assist with insomnia - guidance here please - when should I be taking them? I find if I go to or try to go to sleep before about midnight I have no hope of sleeping more than 3 hours. Any suggestions would be awesome.
As Neet will know I am not and never have been a water drinker and I found myself very thirsty at school because I normally have a cordial with me to keep me going with my voice. I did force down the water and I am sure as I become more disiplined that will be fine. smiley I hope lol.
Some of the messages on this site are truly awe inspiring and I feel so lucky to be able to share with such genuine people. Thank you for making me feel ever so welcome and supported.

Kat,

well done on your day - excellent you should be proud of yourself. i personally never ever force my body to do something it truly doesn't want to - iam not talking about pushing myself in exercise. be gentle with yourself and allow yourself time to adjust. if you eat enough juicy fruits you will not have to drink much if any water.

do you know about or practice meditation or if you dont  -do you know about float tanks. rest is just as good as sleep. your body will still repair and maintain itself if you are resting. meditation -i have done some sessions that have gone multi days and have found it better than s..... yeah i know what you guys were thinking  but i was going to say sleep.

have a great night and be gentle

Thank you Neet and Speedy,
Well I had my dinner and so far so good. Cooked dad some grilled fish but I was already half full from the salad and a plum or two so I havent ventured to the fish. As for the water lol that was the bain of my beloved late mums existance!! They had a very busy life and I think my first words were Coke please!! I'm getting some great information out of the recipes. Have bought myself a new recipe book so I can jot down one that I think will be yummy - and thats looks like its going to be most of them. Only thing I have never been keen on is tomato's which there seems to be a lot of recipes including those little rascals. Oh well. I can't believe this is so much fun!! I actually feel excited.
I have organised to start doing yoga once a week on a thursday night. Which I have been going to do forever but I thought if I've decided to give my body the nutrion it deserves through this then yoga is surely going to be the easy bit! I used to do yoga in Adelaide so it will make a welcome return. I have self-hypnosis CD's on sleep and they are lucky they dont have a money back guarentee with them. But I do find peace with a wide range of relaxation music that I will have on softly throughout the whole night. Then if I stir I hear that and it helps me stay asleep. And it was interesting to read about the body resting. I actually did that tonight after I came home from school. My head was so sore I just layed down and used muscle relaxation techniques to just 'calm' myself. I think the watermelon smoothie helped as well. I also like warming my heat bag that has lavander in it also. I find the lavander increadibly relaxing and the heat bag(s) give me some relief from my back as well.
I loved the marathon analogy it was so true. I know I may stumble but like mum always said to me 'Tough times don't last but tough people do' and I'd like to think I'm a little tougher than I was in the past years.
Thanks for all the wonderful information so far

hi all,
just explaining my pic - the lovely man next to me is my partner ben and he lives in perth - and i miss him terribly being all the way over here in south australia. yet i have the count down happening for my long service leave which is in 1 month 2 days and 12hours (not that Im counting lol) and I will be spending nearly 4 months in Perth. He was fascinated by the decision for me to go raw (or begin the journey that is) and he said well we will have to do it together then when your hear!! (i know he wont give up his meat but he is really interested with the gs) I am also hoping that having the warmer weather for a little longer may help me battle the winter as I know even neet found this a challenge way back in the beginning of her raw adventure. Ben was really excited for me and said he will continue to give me all the encouragement and support for anything i choose to do. It was so wonderful to know he will support me with this when I am over there.

Hi Kat,

Headache can also come from detox. Everything can come from detox! Lol. Sometimes when I'm not really wanting water but I'm thirsty I add some lemon or lime juice. Just makes it taste different! Also buying a water filter makes water taste amazing. Even a Brita jug makes water taste better. My hubby is drinking loads more water since we bought one.

When I'm having a hard time sleeping I put lavender oil on my pillow and then I'm off with the fairies! It's great isn't it. Good luck with your sleeping tonight.

That's great that you are getting support from your man. Support from those closest to us can make all the difference.

Kat,

boy are you in for a suprise when you go to perth to see Ben. there is a vibrant community over there - you will meet quite a few on this forum -really lovely people.

yoga goes very well with anything but is really beneficial with raw and getting rid of toxins. when you get to know your teacher better - you may want to ask them for some breathing exercises -this will help with the late nights.

have great day 2 morrow

hi all,

thanks speedy - i will try to have an excellent day!! we are off to the local wetlands to look at the little critters in the water!! im sure i will need an awesome juice to recover from taking 23 five year olds with me lol
im also seeing my girlfriend who lost her mother to cancer on monday night - very sad. she is 8 months pregnant and suffering with depression and i am doing my very best to support her. so i think i will be craving sleep by tomorrow.
it also was a tramatic weekend with my other girlfriend who gave birth to a tiny wee 1kg baby on sunday nite. she was only 29 weeks into her pregnancy of her very first child. so its been a bumpy ride. the poor little mite is in special care at the moment. so i continue to send good thoughts and prayers their way.
hope everyone has an awesome day tomorrow
