june 2008, where is your head at?

im training up for the australian 24 hour running champs later in the year.

yesterday i ran 50km up the highest peak in central america. mt chirippo. 3820 metres. i thought it would take me 6 hours. it ended up being a 8.5 hour epic. thru mud, rainforest, rain, tundra and altitude sun with thin air.

i ate 5 mangoes for breakfast and that lasted me the whole distance. but if i was racing i would have taken a couple of bananas. i hit the wall after 4 hours of climbing and collapsed in a bush. said to myself that i either catch a helicopter out or get up like a man and smash the summit and smash the decent.

this hike in the guide books advise 3-4 days to do. i did it up and back and in time for a late lunch of 30 bananas blended.

my sugar metabolisim has never been this good. i can hit the wall and keep on blast'n!

according to my polar watch i burned 5530 calories and average heart rate up was 152 and down the mountain was 143.

the terrain was like climbing steps. i fell many times.

today i feel great , just a few sore muscles from the pounding. but i could jump on the bike and ride 400km if the 'why' was strong enough.

have faith in mother nature. for she never breaks the heart that loves her.

For conversions Google will calculate for you!

I searched for "50 km in miles" and it answered 31.0685596 miles

Thats right 31 miles, the conversion factor is 1.608 approx.

F1, the distance is not important here, the mountain terrain, altittude etc, made it equivalent perhaps 80-100km on flat, so about 50 or bit more miles. Get a metric head, man.

Harly, You are such an inspiration to me, and basicaly I do consider You my coach-advisor, sorry for not sending the checks, You are giving all that great sport physiology knowledge out for free, much much appreciated.

You basicaly turned my ultra nutritional strategies around, pitty I did not read this forum and Your wisdom months ago or years ago, I have basicaly only 4 weeks left till 24H.

Anyway I did not plan to do Adelaide at the end of september this year, but since You going there, I feel strong tempatation to do it as well and observe Your eating strategy personaly from the track.

I wish You all the best in training and preparation and wish You all the best for Adelaide 24H.

Do You have any target-goal in mind for the 24H distance, which You are willing to share publicly ?

Rudolf,

I don't know if you were joking or not but for some reason I didn't appreciate it.....understand that not everyone is as knowledgable on the distance stuff as you!!!

I'm well aware that Harley has achieved a great thing that was undoubtable, Harley is a go getter and a great guy and his achievement was already noted and was not even an issue, I just wanted to know what the conversion was because I've seen it mentioned a lot and I'm new to this distance stuff and have trouble understanding it, so I figured I'd ask....

sorry F1, the joking or teasing americans for their use of miles instead of kilometres is perhaps not a good habit, and perhaps it just express the annoyance while reading various training plans and system and the need to keep calculating everything fro miles and yeards to metric system and calculate the paces in miles into paces in kms etc
and making it difficult for the whole metric world.

It was not meant to be personal
I appologize again

No harm done, I just wasn't sure....

Well it's confusing for me because I'm a Brit and I'm used to using miles but over here in the states all the races are in K's and I'm real new to all of this K's business so I'm still trying to find my way and get an idea of what everyone is talking about....

glad we friends again.

F1, do You go to some racewalking forum.
Yeastreday I read about You at running forum from somebody who obviously is also walking.
It was full of admiration about a guy who is only on fruit and walking 27 miles and doing 2000+ pushups in hour.
It was nutrition related, so You are spreading the word and doing good job there.

Yeah I just joined a race walking forum, I used my F1 user name not thinking anyone would even know but One guy started asking me about being raw.

I decided to get real serious about this race walking thing, I went out and bought a pair of Sauconys last night, man those things are comfortable.....

must be the same guy, who become my friend through running forum, which we reguraly hijack for walking
and walking is kind of part of ultrurunning. Tim and Grant kind of started tge raw thread on that running foum,
where I psota bit, so this friend is getting info from there, but he mentioned the 2000+ pushups + 27 miles walks without the F1 name, but it was too obvious.

iuse Loco Bandidos for racewalking, track or road, basicaly ideal racewalking sho, very ligh very thin and veru flexible - easy to bend. But I do also train in Dunlop Volleys and KT26, try to get as raw as possible (not raw but barefoot-natural), I also bought Nike frees, and they are good will use them on track, just probs on gravel as the stones are sticking in the sole.

Anyway I am doing 24H walk april 21-22, that friend is doing it too, and thanks to You, Harl and Grant, I am going to do it on fruit only (some greens too ) without suplements etc, so am looking forward to it.
