I'm really curious how many of you don't drive and only walk/ride/skate to get to where u need to go?

I currently walk every day to work and back (about a few kilomotes/a couple of miles each way).

I'd like to start biking but I've only biked when I was very young and am not used to biking in traffic (in other words I'm chicken! Wink ).  I'll be moving soon though and will start up biking at some point -- I'll start by biking around the neighborhood.

This thread is giving me encouragement to get into biking.  Walking is great but I'd like to be able to travel further -- thus, the bike...

You guys would love to see how many people ride their bikes around where I'm from (Norway) - lots of bike racks outside schools, universities and shops, and often nice wide foot paths to ride on, as long as you give way to pedestrians. Of course we do have to park the bikes sometimes (usually for a couple of months!) because it's too cold, too slippery or there's too much snow to wade through..

Does anyone have experience here in Australia riding around with young kids as passengers? Any tips and advice? I don't think I would consider it safe enough to get rid of the car!? Leisure rides yes, but sole transport?
