Okay thanks for that May but question How can your hair go darker considering its dead do you mean near your scalp are going darker sorry just asking just find it very strange but that could be me thinking in the way that society want us all to think (well the hair dye companies anyway)

I have a bristly brush. In the old days they were made from pig tusks or something. You know the ones? They would be great I reckon, for moving the oils from the scalp down to the ends of the hair.

I just use a normal brush bought from Priceline or somewhere like that and it is coated with the oils... I washed it last week but it has this greasy white coating again. I don't think I need any thing else, lol!

Hi Angie, regarding the greying hair... raw will not change grey hair back to being dark but it may prevent new hair from being grey when it grows through. Hair colour is determined by the presence of special cells in your skin called keratinocytes and my assumption is that raw food revitalises these cells, the same way as it does for all other cells in the body. As a result, they give the hair more colour. Not certain on that but I do have a bit of scientific knowledge in that area that tells me that might be what is happening.
Oh and it is quite likely that, even though it will get worse at first (a healing crisis) your dermatitis will improve without shampoo - shaampoo blocks the pores, dries the skin and prevents expression of natural oils. And raw will help too. My head was really itchy from about days 4-12 but I put up with it and the itchiness is gone now. I'm sure having the dermatitis is very annoying but just think - for the price of a few weeks of itchy scalp, you could be dermatitis free for the rest of your life!

Best wishes for all you greasy raw fooders out there!  ohyeah

Actually Freedom many people have had gray/white hair turn back to coloured. Ann Wigmore was completely white when she started raw with lots of wheatgrass and sprouts and her hair turned completely brown again. Neat eh?

Here's the link to Dr Anne Wigmore's page where she talks of her hair colour returning.

http://www.creativehealthinstitute.us/wigmore.htm

She speaks elsewhere on the site of some of her students asking for some of her hair to analyse to make sure it wasn't really chemically coloured, and of course she gave them some.  They say she never walked anywhere but always ran.

I wonder how long she'd have lived without having been caught in a fire when she was 83.

Angie, I was only greying at the temples and through my fringe anyway, so it wasn't through the length of my hair except in the odd few strands.  But I'm sure it has gone darker during my 4 months raw.  My hair isn't very long these days either.  It was down to the back of my knees when I was 11.

ohyeah  It's really inspiring to see everyone going all natural with the hair.   I'd like to suggest something for people especially those that have itchy, oily or generally troublesome scalp or hair. Years ago I used nasturtium and rosemary for my hair.  The latter is commonly known to be good for the hair, but now I've just read that nasturtium is also highly recommended, fancy that!
Nasturtium is coming into season in Perth.  This is my method for using it.  If you have some in the garden, just take a handful of leaves and pound them up with a pestle and mortar, mix with a few tablespoons of water and then strain the green juice for use....
After showering and drying hair with a towel, but while the hair is still slightly damp, massage the juice into your hair and scalp.  You can leave it on till your next shower otherwise you can rinse off after a minute or two if you prefer.
The same applies when using rosemary, but with rosemary I find it's better to rinse off otherwise it leaves a kind of sticky substance on the hair.  I also i must stress that i didn't find it to be nearly so effective as nasturtium.  I find nasturtium much better for the hair and scalp and i would also recommend it for the skin too.  In place of soap, adapt the method outlined above...

You can also make a larger batch to keep in the fridge, say about a cup of juice at a time, but it's much better used fresh and it only lasts a few days anyway.
Next time I will copy a recipe from this book i'm reading now that also uses nasturtium, but it's a bit more complicated to make...

Rachan - Do you think putting it through the juicer would work as well?

Thanks Rachan. I think I'll just let it go for the next few weeks and let it sort itself out. But if it doesn't then you've given me something to turn back to.

Well I did the vinegar rinse as you know and today my head still isnt as itchy as it should or could be. I have been scratching a little bit but nothing like I thought it would be. Is there any problem with me doing the vinegar rinse every day or two just to get me through the itchy time. Would be really interested to know what you guys thought.

TIA

Hi precious Tulip,

I can't see any problem with it. My hair was just as greasy the next day as it was before I did the rinse. See how you go. Maybe do it every two days for a week or two and then leave it for a few days and see how long it takes to get itchy? Test and measure lovie!

Just kidding, please don't take it the wrong way.  I think you're all amazing cos I'm not game to try this yet.
