How many girls can relate to the fact that the 'getting ready' stage at a girlfriend's house, with the music pumping and the hair in a towel, and the make-up going on was sometimes the BEST part of the whole night?  Often it was the longest part of the night. Wink

MissG, I can totally relate to that.  I'm going to a wedding tomorrow, and a part of me wants to wear makeup, or at least have an eyelash tint and wax my legs and eyebrows.
I've been thinking "it's a wedding, you're supposed to get all done up", but it's the getting ready stage and not the final effect I'm after.

So I'm not going to do any of the above, but I will give myself a facial tonight and go to my hairdresser after lunch tomorrow and have my fringe trimmed and maybe have my hair froofed up a little (no product, just scrunched etc).  Then home to have a big green smoothie to fill me up as it's a very small wedding and will be over by dinner time.

I've been arguing with that voice all week, nice to have a balanced compromise  laugh

Hmmmm.... the things raw does to the mind......

I have been thinking about hair even the last few days. Getting to the bottom of my own reasons for hiding behind my hair.

And, I won't bore you with the details, only to say that my aunt paid for my first blonde colour, and from then on I've really struggled with on one hand, hearing all the compliments on my blonded hair and actually wanting to be just "me" again with my natural light brown hair.

All that said, I have a LOT of grey through it (about 50-60% I think at the front), which causes my dilemma. At 33 yrs of age, I feel pressure to colour and hide the grey, which the blonde does quite well. I have gone back a few times darker but the regrowth always just looks worse.

Took my daughter for a haircut today and chickened out at the last minute of asking the hairdresser if she had time to just chop all my coloured hair off (I have about an inch of regrowth). I really feel this would be feel so freeing, but maybe I need to wait a few more weeks to have a bit more length.Have tried dyeing to natural colour and letting it grow out and hated the in-between stage, so feel a dramatic once-off might be in order.

I've always thought my grey hair was hereditary- my grandfather went grey early, as has my aunt(yes, the one who paid for my dyejob when I was 20) and my mum, but I have been reading that raw reverts grey- is it true?

Love, love love rawgreengoddess' hair, but I'm afraid of how mine would look that short and not dark, but grey?Huh

Might just do it anyway......any thoughts people? Anyone had greys turn dark again? Anyone chopped off and started again?

Many thanks

Think I just answered my own question.

We went out for dinner and on the way I saw a woman about my age with really short cropped hair- her hair was as grey as mine, if not a bit more grey, and she looked great! She looked me straight in the eye and no kidding it was like looking in a mirror. A bit scary, actually, how much she looked like me.(coincidence, I don't think so!!) Wow, the power of the universe is mind-boggling....

I'm going to call and make an appointment first thing monday. I feel relaxed and calm about this now, I know it will be so incredibly freeing!! Letting go of the one thing that makes me feel uncomfortable about my outside self. Really just being my real self inside AND out. A big slap in the face for my ego/ pretend self.  Can't wait- will post a photo!! ohyeah

I shaved my head before my 29 day water-only fast with Doug Graham in Feb/Mar this year.
It still came back with plenty of grey but its so soft. I love it. I haven't used shampoo or soap for many years.
In fact I haven't showered in chlorinated or fluoridated water since christmas 2007!
For the small amounts of water I drink, I use distilled water. I stay super hydrated from all the organic fruits I eat.

My greying hair is a part of who I am. I have inner peace with that.
I believe we have a need to follow our heart and our instincts. We need to look for approval from the inside. It's quite a freeing experience. We should always be able to look in the mirror and love every part of who we see.

I was chatting to a friend the other day who met a lady in her late 70's who was friends with Anne Wigmore. This lady,  when she was in her 60's, decided she wanted her old colour back instead of her grey (I prefer to think of it as growing out platinum) so she drank the juice from 3 trays of wheatgrass a day for 3 years! My goodness that is dedication and belief!!!

I was chatting about that to a different friend today who's reaction was "and that's how long it took her body to replenish what it was low in..."

Interesting!

I do wash my hair...with bicarb... I  love being clean and fresh,

I have had grey in my hair since I was 14 or 15. At that time I only had a small strand but it was such a drama for everyone else.

People – friends and strangers – were always coming up to me and plucking that strand out of my head. It drove me insane, not only was it very painful but it was a pretty rude thing to do.

Now at 38, I have noticed quite a few grey strands. I think they are pretty and I feel no need to cover them up but again it is such a drama for everyone else. People are constantly asking me silly things like “do you know you have grey hair” – well duh, since I look in the mirror everyday, it is a bit department of the bleeding obvious. Or hairdressers recall in horror and think I am immensely odd for not wanting to cover them up.

I think a head of silver grey hair on women (especially young women) looks elegant and magnificent; sadly very few women are willing to do it. And even more sadly, society in general seems very negative about any miniscule signs of perceived aging.

How do you use bicarb to wash hair? Call me a bit dim but I don’t understand. Do you rub the bicarb through dry hair and brush it out? Or do you wet you hair and make the bicarb into a sort of paste and use it as you would a shampoo?

Can anyone fill me in please?

EDIT: Due to spelling mistake.

KittyK
re bicarb to wash hair - I make it into a paste with water and gloop it onto my dry hair before my shower, concentrating mainly on the roots.  I then give it a little massage and leave to dry a bit as I make my morning smoothie, check my emails etc.  Then I jump in the shower and wash it out.

Actually that's what I used to do, as it's been nearly 2 weeks since I used shampoo on my hair.  I got it cut short before going to my 10 day silent retreat and deliberatly didn't wash it while I was away.  It feels really soft and has a bit of body to it now.  Every day I was away I scrubbed my scalp in the shower with the rainwater.   Actually a couple of times I filled my water bottle with lemongrass tea from the dining room and poured that (cold of course) over my head just in case my hair started to smell.

Thanks that sounds good; I will give it a go.

Growing up in the UK we had a dry shampoo / talc / powder for hair (never seen it in Australia) you would basically rub the powder into dry hair and then brush it out. I never actually used it but it was meant to clean your hair without actually wetting it.

I wonder if the bicarb would work on the same principle.

It may do, but you'd have to brush your hair pretty well to get it out, otherwise you could be looking a little grey LOL

One more thing about the bicarb - use warm water to mix it.  I haven't used it for a while and decided to do it today, but mixed it with cold water.........this felt freezing when I put it on my scalp.  Now there's nothing wrong with that, but being winter in Qld I'm a bit of a sook with the cold weather  Sad  so next time I'll use warm or lukewarm water - much nicer sensation LOL

It's been over 3 weeks since my last shampoo.  My hair feels a little strange though, not used to having a bit of body in it.  It's growing really fast too, which is good as I prefer my hair to be a little longer.  And there's not much oil coming out either, just enough.

I'm seeing a special girlfriend this afternoon, so I might treat my scalp to some lemon myrtle tea.......yumm.

I read recently about using aloe vera as a styling product and gave it a go because my hair has gone dry and straw-like with the cold snap. It works amazingly well and my hair feels all soft and has a lovely shine. Just squeeze a bit of the gel onto your hand and rub it through. Easy.

Still laughing Sanghama that you used 'QLD' and 'cold weather' in the same sentence...

You know for some strange reason ive never posted in this thread.

I stopped using shampoo and conditioner in i think maybe june last year??? approx. Used the odd vinegar rinse, bicarb once or twice (so wasnt worth it, dried my hair out), eventually went water only. I went pretty hard core with it and started not washing at all after discovering there were other ways to keep hair clean, coz even water dries and damages hair.

So long story short, i now wash with water maybe every month or two (usually around that time of month, because for some reason i get dandruff then, hmmm).

Daily or twice daily flip my head over and scritch my scalp to remove dead skin, use my fingers to preen the oil down to the ends, and detangle. I use a boar bristle brush most days but not every day, and i find it best to give my hair a few days brushing break here and there. Trust me my hair is clean, it looks and feels clean, and it smells nice (well had no complaints anyways, and hubby would defo complain).

My transition to water only took about 3months, probs took about 6 or 7 before i was washing infrequently. My hair is very healthy, is strong, and so little work. I get very few splits, but once a month i do a search and cut out the ones i can spot (tedious task, but cheaper than the hairdresser).

My waves got more defined on water only, and i developed a few loose spirals to the front framing my face (these dissapear if my hair gets too dry). Occasionally, maybe once a month i oil the ends with a very very light coating of coconut oil (basically i rub in whats left after i rub some in my hands).

Just so in my routine these days i forget about this thread, but thought id share my story.
