Today was Bella's first trip to the beach. We played lots of fetch with a ball with us throwing it into the waves and her happily leaping into the water to get the ball and bring it back. We played this way for well over an hour. However as soon as we returned to the car she began to vomit. She vomited for the entire trip home and has drank her bowl dry three times since. She is not interested in her dinner, no energy... just wants to lie in her bed. No vomiting that I know of since we got back...

Should I just give her a big bowl of water and leave her? Or is there something else I should do? Her tummy is not hard or anything.... I feel so guilty. We went to the beach on a whim and I didn't take water for Bella although I let her drink from my bottle.

Any advice is welcome!

Would she have got overly hot Jen?  I'm just wondering about heat stroke Sad  I believe dogs only sweat from their tongues (and feet?) so I don't know if she could have got her heat out from running around.

Is she disoriented or vague (you know what I mean).  If she is I think I'd get her to the vet, or at least give them a call?

Hope she perks up quickly!!!!

Hi lovely! No she is not disorientated. Just tired, very thirsty and no appetite. Poor girl. No it wouldn't be heat stroke. She spent most of her time in the water. I think I'll be keeping a very close eye on her tonight.

Poor Jen - another worry to keep your head full.  Pleased to hear this anyway, sounds as if she just swallowed too much sea water.  Hoping so and she's back to her usual self in the morning.

You know I'm really going to be on your case in a little while about resting up don't you?  Just warning you that Mummy May is gunna turn into Matron May.  But I know you're still too busy just now.

Heaps of hugs to you and Bella

Jen I think she is just dehydrated. You know that salt water would have made her thirsty even if she was drinking it. Just make sure she has lots and lots of water for the night and I am sure she will be right in a few days. Dogs now what their bodies need better then we do.

Next time you go to the beach make sure you take her a bowl and fresh water just so she can keep well hydrated. I am sure you now all of this allready cause I am no dog expert.

Hope she is getting better.

Love to you Bella puppy (sorry seems weird me calling a dog Bella when that is my daughters name)

Poor little girl! My pup won't even go near beach water, he thinks the waves are chasing him so I've never experienced this first hand but as others have said, I think she's probably just drunk a bit much seawater. In addition to giving her lots of fresh water, make sure she can go outside and eat grass if she wants to, as this is really important for doggy digestive system.

Give Bella a big hug from me!

Me too! She peed all over the floor last night and looked very embarrassed this morning but I had a feeling she would. After all the water she drank yesterday. I chatted to a guy today who has a rotty that he takes to the beach and it drinks the water and then gets the runs.... I think I'd prefer the vomit!

Oh yuck I would prefer neither. The kids are bad enough. I cant handle animal vomit or runs.
