I have only been raw for 3 weeks but these green smoothies (500ml of banana and baby spinach daily) have given me so much energy, I hardly know what to do with myself.

Since starting the raw food diet and drinking green smoothies, I wake up at 5.15am and pretty much jump out of bed, I then go on an early morning walk for 20 – 30 mins before returning home and getting ready for work. Energy levels remain good all day, even in the evening.

This morning (Sunday) I have been out-of-control energy wise:

Up at the crack of dawn for a 40 min walk, came home and did housework, did all the ironing (in the 12 years I have been married, I can count the number of times I have “done all the ironing” on one hand) Then went to the gym and did 30 mins on the treadmill uphill and weights and sit-ups. Now trying to persuade my hubby to come outside with me to do some gardening and wash the car.

Now this level of activity may not seem very much to you but prior to 3 weeks ago:

I could barely drag myself out of bed when the alarm went off at 6.00am and it would take a couple of attempts to get up. Despite having had 8 hours sleep, I still felt utterly exhausted and it would be an effort to drag myself to work and get through the day before dragging myself home again.

On a Sunday morning I would either wake up totally exhausted and spend all day doing nothing in front of the TV OR I would wake up with a hangover and then spend all day doing nothing in front of the TV, before returning to work on Monday and starting the whole exhausted process for another week.

My hubby has gone raw too in support of me but he is not drinking the green smoothies and as a result of our walk and gym visit this morning (which he complained about prior, during and after!), is feeling pretty tired.

I am going to try and have a "nanna-nap" this afternoon, otherwise I fear I will burn myself out with all this running around.

Good news Kitty cat. I love that your husband is supporting you. Mine is very supportive as well and gets loved by me even more for it. Have you joined some of the others on their GS quest? There are some great recipes in there.

Raw makes you look and feel sexy!

It may make YOU feel sexy (and from your utterly stunning and gorgeous photo, you certainly look the part) but I think I may have a loooong way to go before I feel or look sexy - but here's hoping!

p.s. just made your super nori and vegetable rolls for dinner, bit of a disaster (used every available pot in the kitchen and caused a huge mess) but they tasted great.

kenyan runners are the best in the world at distance running..they sleep/rest up to 20hours a day..

so its time we dropped the 'nanna nap' title and called it a 'kenyan catch up'...

rest, sleep as much as you can..gives us more energy for when it really matters..

You can call it a 'kenyan catch up' if you want but I much prefer 'nanna nap'.

oh Kittykat that is fantastic and that is all you put in your gs I have been struggling to have one the past few weeks. So I might just try your recipe a bit later cause I have lots of spinich and bananas.

I just cant believe your energy levels and that is exactely what I need at the moment (in the first trimester of pregnancy and I am buggered I need about 10 nanna naps during the day with a 2 year old and a 8 month old).

I am so happy for you

So I might just try your recipe a bit later cause I have lots of spinich and bananas.

I had a fantastic tasting smoothie this morning, best I have made in the past three weeks (even my hubby liked it and he has a childhood vomit aversion to bananas!)

1 large handful of organic baby spinach leaves (about 50g)
1 large organic Chard leaf (with stem removed)
1 large organic ripe banana
1 medium organic ripe banana
250ml filtered water

Buzzed up spinach, chard & water using ice crusher in blender until smooth and frothy, then slowly pulsed bananas until all combined.

It was sooooo nice. Drank 500ml and immediately wanted more, been craving it all day (I have NEVER craved for fruit & veggies before).

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

What has happened to all my energy - it's gone away.  shrug

I have increased my green intake, so I think I must be detoxing.

I thought detoxing took only a few days, not seven plus weeks.

I want my energy back.

Are you getting enough calories for energy, mainly from fruit?  X

I honestly don't know.

What are your suggestions?

This is exactly what happened to me. I felt awesome on green smoothies for the first month or two. I've just spent the last 4 or 5 weeks feeling like crap. I was tired all the time, could barely drag myself out of bed. I couldn't understand it because I'm eating 75% raw, a couple GS a day but I didn't change anything except more greens and less cooked. I knew from experience raw makes me feel fantastic and thought it couldn't be detox because I wasn't having classic detox symptoms like runny nose or bad skin etc and it was just going on for so long, I expected detox to come me shorter waves. You know, one or two crappy days and then you feel awesome again. I felt dizzy, tired, weepy and irritable. It felt like I've felt in the past if I've done a huge workout and really not eaten enough. I thought I wasn't getting enough calories and that's why I felt so tired but when I really made sure that I was it didn't make any difference. I changed nothing and suddenly in the last few days I'm getting my bounce back and I feel alive and energetic again. I had a GS for breakfast and zoomed all over the house, rolled around on the floor playing and laughing with my kids and cleaned the kitchen feeling utterly fantastic the whole time. This is the way GS used to make me feel and then it just didn't for more than a month. I'm still more tired than I usually am but every day for the last 5 days or so its getting better than the day before.
I think now it must have been detox but on a bigger scale. Nothing I did made any difference for 5 weeks and I was getting quite freaked out by feeling so crap but I didn't change what I'm eating, in fact I upped the GS trying to make myself feel better, and finally the zip is back.

Maybe its the same for you. Hopefully you'll wake up feeling zippy soon.
