It is and it's like a man saying to a women "I won't use condoms so if you're so worried about getting pregnant, get a hysterectomy!" V.final and only for ppl who are very sure.

I guess the concept of permanent contraception is pretty huge. Personally I would never have a hysterectomy because I wouldn't want my body surgically altered but that is the only reason. Oh and I kinda don't need one because I know that there is no chance that any... sexual encounter of mine will get me pregnant, lol!  laugh But I KNOW I'm never going to have children. People doubt me when I say that because I'm only 19 but that is their problem. If you want kids, well, it's a different story.
Incidentally, my uncle had a vasectomy when my two cousins were a few years old and my Dad had one when I was 11.

Okay, so I know that hysterectomies alter the hormonal balances within a woman - putting one through menopause, no matter what age the surgical procedure is performed at.   But I don't know - does anything similar happen with vasectomies?  You can call me naive here but oh well Wink

Surgery seems a very extreme approach to me either way.

In the past I've been on the pill,  both for contraception and for regulating my period so that the cycle lasts a whole 28 days.  Without the pill it can slip to 20 or 21 days, and the more frequent high estrogen that brings can exacerbate my endometriosis.

That said, I hate the pill.  Hate how much it changes my body and my emotions.  Such strong hormones in it, it often made me feel ill.   I've made the decision now not to take it again.

Since going raw my period cycle has been trying to make it to a whole 28 days... it succeeds for a few months then drops back to a 21 day, then back to 28.  I can see it struggling, am sure I'll get there in the end.  Hoping the endometriosis problem will lessen as well.  Just another positive benefit of health I am noticing from raw, there are so many! Smiley

I'm guessing contraception in the future for me will be a combination of abstinence or condom use.  Although the natural approach with temperature taking sounds intriguing.  I know in myself already when I'm ovulating, and when the day before my period starts is, but the temperature method could give me more confidence with knowing those times!

WB, from my knowledge, vasectomy doesn't have any effect hormonally on a male. Nothing is removed it just cuts the tube via which sperm get into the penis for ejaculation. And you've only gotta look at DR to see that it's had no ill effects on his health...only the positive health effect of never having to worry about fathering a child which...and over-population is a very real concern that I think Harley feels strongly about. Just like his health Harley takes it seriously and is 100% commited to his beliefes...and I honour him for that Smiley

As for your endometriosis, have you done much fasting and cleansing like colonics to help? I used to have really severe endo and after doing a good fast and cleanse including some colonics and enemas and steaming and skin brushing, etc and then going 100% raw vegan (this was in my mid 20's) I completely rid myself of my endo!! ANd boy what a relief after having endured over a decade of excruciating periods every month. ANd my menstrual cycle also went to a consistent 29 1/2 day cycle...which is what we're meant to be (the moon cycle is 29 1/2 days...28 days for a month was a male invention!!)

Also, to all the women using the natural or temperature or billings method for tracking their ovulation, are you aware that you can spontaneously ovulate at the exact moon cyle under which you were born. It's called your lunar ovulation and it can and does happen no matter where in your "biological cycle" you are...hence why you hear of women conceiving in the middle of their period!! Both my bubba's were conceived on my lunar ovulation! And I got told by doctors when I was in my early 20's that because of endometriosis scarring I would NEVER fall pregnant!! Tell that to my beautiful bubba's!! They obviously had other ideas...and boy am I glad they did Smiley

Good luck Tracey,
Love Georgia xo

i rode home from the 30 minutes surgery and fasted the rest of the day. not that i recomend any exercise after any surgery...

just felt like i landed on my top tube of my bicycle for the day. next morning i was cool. no bruising, swelling etc. just cut, stitch and out the hospital door.

in fact i was out riding a few weeks ago in adelaide and caught a bunch of cyclists..one of them was the anethistist that was at the surgery..small world. i was giving him threshold training tips in between yelps when the scalpel was going in...

i dont want biological children. no other form of contraception is as efficient or least health damaging. woman are more hormonal than guys, cuttng bits out or controling hormones via synthetic methods never results in optimum health. for me gett'n a snip was more natural than fathering a child i didnt want. i like to be sure and safe.  i dont like having to worry..or make others worry..
vasectomies increase spontaneous occasions..no need to calculate monthly cycles, pill poppn etc. your ready when your partners ready. too easy.

end of the day we do what we do. its all good.

well actually vasectomies do make you crazy..just look at me...

Contraception.......

I think almost everytime I have ever been to the doctors from about the age of 18 (only handful of times, and different ones from different places I've lived) I have been asked what contraception I use, to which I have replied condoms and they have then proceeded to tell me that I should go on the pill for extra "protection" and all the "benefits" the pill provides for women.
Nah no thanks. I like my hormones just the way they are lol.

Condoms aren't the best for the environment which kind of bugs me (they're much less messy though laugh), I wish I was brave enough to go by my temperature etc, but I get SCARED lol And since my partner DOES want kids I doubt he'd do anything permanent  laugh We'll get to that one later.

I really don't want to have kids. I feel that there are more than enough other people having babies to make up for me not having any Smiley
I would love to foster children because I would love to be able to provide a loving home for them (when my stepmum died and my dad moved to the country, my stepsis had terrible experiences with foster parents) although I am not sure I'd be allowed to have "vegan fosterkids".

Harls I'm sure that you would have thought damn hard into what you did before you did it as you do with everything. So good on you. I guess it's a lot less invasive than they way that we de-sex cats and dogs.

Hey EVC nice to see you back!!!

We are choosing the vasectomy route too, but we already have 2 kids.

I also planned on adopting and didn't want kids of my own (I wouldn't give them back though!). I was told I couldn't have kids and the first one was conceived while we were using a condom and I was on the pill. So really nothing is a 100% guarantee. We also have friends that are now having a baby even after her tubes were tied.

Thanks emi Smiley

That is true that nothing is ever a 100% guarantee! I find it amazing the amount of ppl who get told they can't have kids who end up having them.. Our great doctors lol.

I'm sure you wouldn't change things for the world (your kids) now that you have them though Smiley

After having tubes tied... wow.... that would have been a bit of a shock for them.

It's funny how things work in mysterious ways isn't it.

From what I can gather it is easier to adopt a child that has been in your foster care rather than go through everything that is needed to adopt a child, which is why I would choose that route.
I am the same as you, it would be very hard to "give up" a child you have cared for. Sometimes there are children who only need a home for a short while though.

That is great that you are able to say that RGG and get on with your life to be able to spread your love rather than let it control your life.  yahh

You do have oodles of love and luckily there will be many people around you who will receive your love and be all the better for it. Then they can pass on the love that you give to them and oh how wonderful your gifts will be.

Organic Girl thanks so much for sharing your experience with endometriosis.  It gives me hope that mine will eventually be gone completely too Smiley

Since going 'healthier' with my diet (even before raw), it has lessened.  First it was noticeable as only having pain about every 3 months instead of every month.  Now I think I've gone longer, but this month had some pain with it again.  Strange to note that my pain has not been in time with menses, but a week or so pre-menses.  Everyone's different even with it!  Great to hear you showed the doctors wrong with conceiving your lovely children too Smiley   Funnily enough I've been told that my ovaries seem clear of endometriosis and I shouldn't have trouble conceiving if I wanted to try.  But really, what do doctors know, evidently Tongue

Harley your input on the topic has been great to read.  Glad to know someone else out there shares my views on overpopulation, I tell ya!!!!

Hey Waterberry,

Have you had a series of colonics? I found that they were the turning point in ending painful periods for me. Won't go into detail now, but PM if you want the theory on why they help Smiley
