Piers and I adopted a 7 month old miniature red wired haired dachshund last week from the pound. It was a long 14 hour round trip to pick her up. She had been (so we were told but we got different stories) the dog of an older lady that had to go into a home for medical care, and was only there a week before we picked her up.

We decided to help her adjust to us first and not to change her food immediately. So she's still getting the dried kibble that the pound gave us. She's a lovely dog.

When we feed her she just looks at us, looks at the food and sits for a while. Then she'll eat it. She's rejected ALL FOUR types of dog bones, even the little packs of treats.

HOWEVER bring out a sun dried tomato, a goji berry, or some durian and she's in love. Durian is her favourite and if she smells it she's on you until you share.

Is it possible she was a raw food dog before we met her? Don't know... but I know she will be soon. We just have to decide what to feed her, and I don't think Piers is willing to share his durian.

She's 10 pounds and probably won't gain more than an ounce or two... she's the best dog and very easy to cuddle. She's getting lots of love for sure.

Just thought I'd share.... I love that we adopted a durian loving dog!

Cheers,
Sheryl

Sophie is a dog that is right in the head. As far as I am concerned this is just another sign that she was the perfect dog for you.

We bought her a little bed today... she curls up in the cutest little circle (it's in the living room... she curls up with us at night). We're reading a great book right now called the Dog Whisperer by Paul Owens and he has loads of pro raw food information in it. His dogs love chomping on huge whole carrots and asparagus. We'll have to try those. He's into positive reinforcement training only... I'll let you know how our use of his work goes.

Piers is the alpha dog for sure... she follows him around and even in the deepest sleep senses if he tip toes out of the room. She was so asleep at one point yesterday that I had picked her up and her head was flopping and she wouldn't wake up (for like 2 minutes... she was so funny). Piers got up to move and she was instantly on full alert. She loves me too but Piers is her man! *grin* Mine too so we have that in common.

She appeared to be toilet trained when we got her but has had accidents most days... so we start intense toilet training tomorrow on a strict schedule.

I'll post some photos soon... she is so sweet that I *must* share.

Love to you all,
Sheryl
