its 2008 now..almost everyone we know has access to internet. if people want to find out what really works, what doesnt, then they do the research. as individuals we just provide living examples to back up what was researched via reading or listening to information that vibed with our common sense.

there is 2 raw vegans in adelaide. id say maybe a thousand people in adelaide have heard of eating 100% raw. most people know, but they dont really care for it. and i accept those stats.

best selling drinks in australia are beer and coke. everyone knows how dodge they are..but they are selling better than ever.. as are donuts, tim tams, mcdonalds, kfc, milk etc.

sure organics is taking off in a big way. but honestly will we ever find it easier to buy a ripe piece of organic fruit verses some packaged plastic food? on average lolly bananas are cheaper per kg than real ones..lol!

ok enough whining from me this morn..i got a bike race to represent at!

once your contaminated with no-foods your in 'addiction zone'; to get out this zone is the real struggle and challenge... i guess its here were we will focus more energy in future (raw-retreats-holidays, centers ex.)

cooked food can be addictive also but preservatives and other chemicals in junk-foods are even more worse...

i always point to the fact that theres a 'manipulation of spiritual&human faculties' in Food (and Food Industry) but even spiritualist dont give enough right reason on that...,

that packaged stuff on the shelves of shops, that aint food, its behaviour modification! lol! riding around this evening and getting the nose pollution of cooked food establishments serving up industrial waste passed off as food. people putting on nice clothes to go eat dead animals etc...bit of pork on the plate, dead cow skin as a hand bag, crushed cochnieal beetle in the lippy and pigs spleen in the ysl aftershave..you just gotta laugh..

crunched out 173km on the bike today. rode 51km to the race, did the race and got 2nd then rode home. just over 6 hours pedal time. there was 20 of us in the road race. we hit some crosswinds and i slapped it in the big ring and rode hard in the gutter for a couple km's. this split the race in half and on the last lap only 4 of were left on the final climb. i got pipped in the sprint by half a wheel. i let my mind get distracted and 2nd place was my result.
doesnt matter how much positive material i know, if i dont use it when it counts, you miss the win.

in hindsight i could of been way more aggresive in the sprint for the line, instead of being content with 2nd. before the last climb that pace was electric and i really had to ignore the false self that always says hello when your on the rivet. the more we listen to the true self, the better it is.

so calorie wise to show crew what you need to eat to do the miles..
about 2500 for my bmr.
6 hours at 600cals cycling = approx 3600
thats 6100 expended today.

i had 32 cert org bananas blended served in the glass below. =3200cals.
300g of alice springs deglet noor dates. 900cals.
3kg of foraged grapes = 2100
some greens. but i dont count the cals from greens cos its neglible. (a kg of greens is around 100cals. thats about 10 mins on the bike..so youd need 60kg of greens to get 6000cals!)

so we have around 6200 cals consumed and 6100 burnt. and once again we see what is needed to 'eat right to train right..'

in bike racing you have to be able to 'explode' up climbs, bridge accross to a group or place in the sprint. many surges occur in a bike race. carbs just get burnt so quickly. the athlete undereating carbs quickly goes out the backdoor.. in cycling we call it 'bonking' and in running its called 'hitting the wall'. they are the same, ie :glycogen depletion.

this is my idea of saturday drinks. i call it the 'banana carba!' at 2 bananas per glass i knocked back around 16 of these. thats my idea of a certified organic bender!

car free freelea and i needed some farm fresh produce today so we rode the 32km each way to pick some cert organic silverbeet, grapes, tomatoes and zuc's. we filled 2 backpacks for 15$....

what is the price of petrol?
or where is the next fruit meal coming from?!

ive fully recovered from yesterdays race. was chasing cars on the flat at 55km an hour..not a safe thing to do, but when your legs are pumped, you just gotta release some how..

wouldnt change this hand to mouth lifestyle for anything..this shot a couple of hours ago in the cert org greenhouse. yet soon to be bulldozed for property 'development'...

I went to a cafe today with my kids and I had a salad and they had something terrible... I won't say what here as I don't want to kick off any cravings in anyone who might be reading but I wouldn't eat it that's for sure. Anyhow, my daughters eyes suddenly opened really wide and she leaned to me in a shocked voice and said "Look how unhealthy that man is, it's really sad and can you believe what he is putting in his body?" I casually turned to see and this poor guy, all of 18 maybe 19 yo was there. He must have been at least 15 stone. I don't know what that is in kg but he was big.

He was eating a meal with loads of white carbs, chemical meat, coke as well as a milkshake. He was bright red in the face and looked puffed at the end of his meal. I really want to get a shirt with my before and after shots on the back with our website and a few others on it. If I had been wearing something like that he may have searched it out tonight and found another way. I couldn't think of a way to approach without being rude... I felt desperately sorry for him though.

A good thing though was that my daughter didn't seem to enjoy what she was eating as much after it and she drank all of her GS tonight without a whimper! I can't wait until you and Free eventually get up here Harl's. I would love my kids to see how you live.

"footy season favourite, hot dogs are a quick and tasty way to feed hungry footy fans. simply cook frankfurts in boiling water, place in a baked dinner roll and add your favourite fillings and sauce..."

the above was from a woolies junk mail. sometimes i find random cooked articles like this very entertaining. for me it explains a lot of societys issues.

this morn got out on the bike at 5am. the full moon still crank'n. had a bit of a cat allergy from visiting some family. i felt 1/10 when i jumped on the bike. i headed straight for gill st. it has you heav'n at the gills literally for oxygen. a great way to clear the lungs and get a lymph pump to start the day right. then met some crew and flew up the bike track to crafers. its about an 8.8km climb and it was on from the start. remembering jan ulrichs advice 'if you can attack, YOU MUST!' i attacked with a few km to go and solo'd to the top. got home feeling 11/10 im on track for the 24 hour champs this weekend.

one of my family members was telling me about their low carb diet and how they are losing weight. i told them it only 'works' cos they are undereating. its not the  carbs. its the caloric restriction. and i asked 'what when you finish this diet?, how are you gonna keep from going back to your old habits that created the desire to diet in the first place?'

i didnt get much of an answer...

billion dollar weight loss industry has people chasing their tails. believ'n the lies they be tell'n em and buy'n the products they be sell'n em. supplement sales crew with vested interests in getting peoples mindset that pills, refined extracts etc provide more  nutrition than whole foods.

my advice to my family member was to increase carbs so they could actually exercise. actually do something half physical and then focus on building their fitness. mostly focus on increasing vo2max (bodies ability to use oxygen). cos when your vo2 max is high...everything is going good...

weight loss industry has people focusing on weight loss instead of becoming athletes. the hard fact is you gotta do the hard yards and be hard. you can be a target for chumps wast'n your time, beauty, money and health or you can keep it real and get real longterm results...ie :sleeves up and CHARGE ON!

incorporate physical activity in your lifestyle.
eat as much fruit carbs as you can.
drink enough water so your getting up at night to pee. during the day at least 8-12 times clear urination.
eat your greens and go way easy on the fat. fat intake determines your fitness level potential.
sleep, rest and build up your training volume, intensity and frequency over time.
BE PATIENT..and expect your best..cos thats what your gonna get!

grabbed 8 bananas for post ride smoothy. that wasnt enough and i found 2$ in my pocket. so rode down to a random organic shop in unley and grabbed exactly 20 cert org 'ripe n ready' bananas for that 2$ coin. im so grateful i get to swap little metal circles and plastic notes for real live organic plant food!

where you gonna buy such a ecologically sound, tasty, sweet, satiating, nutritent dense, marathon lifestyle fueling meal for 2$?

creativity:creative vitality from eating biologically adapted food for you and me.

had my biggest race win for years today. the annual south oz 24 hour xc mountain bike weekend. it involves getting  120+ riders from all over oz and letting em loose on a 8km mountain bike track in a forresty commisson forrest. 24 hours is the time limit to do as many laps as you can. the 'winner' is the one whom does most. go solo, duo or team of 4 or 6.

enjoying the path of  'dissolving ones false self', i always race solo class. cos i find that 24hours is just an intensified life moment where you are required to become well experienced at 'managing the moment' ie being aware that this moment now is all we have so lets put sufficient focus and action towards it. cos in a 24race if you get to the 2 hour mark and remind yourself that there is another 22hours to go... your going to be making it harder than it has to be by focusing on 'time and distance remaing.' in a negative tone ie: are we there yet?

these days for me 'time and distance remaining' means something positive ie :how much calories i need to get. ie how much fuel needed in the tank today for tommorows travels. how many hours left in the race and how much carb is going to fuel it?

for this whole 24 hour race i only knew what the time was for maybe 4 times...as what the time was didnt mean much as time would take care of itself and i was there to win a battle between false self and true self. instead of getting distracted of 'chewing thru time and missing out on the moment, where the magic lives...

ie false saying 'its too cold, its raining, youre not having a good day..' true self saying 'youve raced this track before, your fit, your bike fits you, your adequatly nourished, hydrated, rested, slept etc.

the race started at yesterday at 2pm. finished today at 2pm. you just ride out as many laps in that period.
by midnight i had riden myself into 2nd place. by 3am my main competition (a chap that got 11th recently at the 24hr nationals) had contracted hypothermia and was being lifted into the back of an ambo'...so it took me 13 hours to reach that pole position and another 11 hours to defend it to the line. it always feels great to win a race. even more so when the commentator calls you a 'machine that needs drug testing...' with which i gently grabbed the mic and said something about raw vegan cuisine stokes the higher...

it rained colder and harder than i can remember. it became a battle of attrition. i use these ultra endurance races to showcase what is possible on natures menu. cos when you win a 24 hour mountain bike race drug free, sleep free and solo, it means you know a thing or 2 about eating to go the distance...

i know i wont wake up in the morning with redbull/caffiene etc lows. i know i will wake up in the morning with a feeling of accomplishment. accomplishment that has overflowed from today. accomplishment that anyone can experince when they decide that living in the comfort zone just aint that comfortable after all..

mud sweat and gears
instantly attracts you to like minded peers.
im typing half asleep.
off to bed, not another peep!
