Having an awesome time with hubby without the kids

Emi, I bought a keeper last year and have tried to use it many times, without success.  Sorry to be graphic, but it always leaked....yes I did buy the one for ladies that have had children.

Emi, I was deciding whether to write this post before (as everyones comments have been so loving and beautiful and mine was a bit negative) and then you posted and it made it clear in my mind why I feel this way.  I will explain in a minute.

Since going very high raw, my period has been regular every month.  All three of my children were conceived  without having a bleed but obviously ovulating.

Now (in my mind) my negative comment....sorry.  I dislike the time when my period comes, to me it is disgusting and I cringe at having to touch the blood, the smell, just everything about it, the inconvenience....Emi what caught my eye in your post is that a TRUE reflection of how I see myself....disgusting, not beautiful, an inconvenience ....sometimes I feel that I am.  But on the positive...I love being a woman... I truly believe I am blessed to be a woman, to be able to give birth and experience giving and be in the creation of life.... what a beautiful experience.

I am sorry for posting this comment but I am glad I did it after Emi's post because it made it clear why I felt like this.  I am glad all of you have found this time of the month such a special time.

All my love,
Annette

annette dont be sorry for posting your comment, that is your personal emotive experience, nothing to be sorry about. In fact I think quite the contrary.  Im sure there are the same amount of women if not more that feel the way you do about your menstrual cycle. I can only speak for myself but I do, as another woman, totally empathize and understand your attitude, even though mine is very different.

Thats why I think this little thread here is a bit of a gem although small, so many journeys, so many jewels to be seen. I love reading about different experiences, different attitudes and varied beliefs and practices. And Im especially glad to be hearing the positive results of you that gained back your flowing cycles from being raw. I guess being raw is just that, stripping back the rawness of your life, peeling the layers and it has such a multitude of different effects on different people. The emotional journey itself, the change in spirit, your connection to pachamama our great mother earth, it really does transpire in one way or another. nite nite

Rawgasm, the Herbert Shelton article is indeed a man's view and as with any health and medical text I feel is strongly influenced by cultural views of the time. So much physiological knowledge is based on the assumption of a male body.

It has been referred to a few times that the lower mammals do not menstruate. I think a marked difference between humans and the lower mammals is our lunar cycle as opposed to the oestrus or being in heat. I have read anthropological views that posit one of the reasons for humans biological success is the development of the lunar cycle and the ability of humans to choose the time that they concieve and give birth.

I agree with aspects of the Herbert Shelton article and I think someone elses' comments that menstrution is heavier and more painful with greater toxicity. This is true-cooked food/excess fats creates inflammation, congestion and pain. A period should be light, short and without pain-the state of our menses is a strong indicator of our state of health.

I feel that loving being a women and having the ability to birth comes hand in hand with bleeding, ovulation, emotions. It is a beautiful package yet challenging to say the least. I have grown so much learning to be with my women. to really love her, to hold her when she hurts and to be true to her needs, my needs. I no longer hit my belly and scream, "I hate being a women", as i did in my teens. Becoming in tune with the physical expressions of womanhood, the moon and my bleednig, had really helped me heal. Seeing the blood appear each month and sitting in the moonlight, remind me to be calm, take time for myself and love who i am.

Blessings to all the women out there. x x x x

I'm pleased you posted that Annette and I agree with M_M that many others probably feel the same way, I know I did. Annette, you are beautiful and worthy and not at all an inconvenience. I don't know you personally, but I know you as another human being. Another piece of myself - as I believe we are all connected by the Divine.

Amen RGG, Proud to be a WOMAN!

Im with Anette I hate and I mean hate having my period. And I agree with what someone else said (sorry I dont remember who) that it depends on how you where welcomed into "Becoming a women". I remember my mother sitting me down and talking to me about it like it was very hush hush without anyone else around I was all embarressed. I allready knew all the stuff she was telling me from school. My mother and I never had a very good relationship like the mother daughter ones (we do now dont get me wrong I love my mother now and wouldn't know what I would do with out her).

I remember I was about 13ish I was walking down the street and had the period pain adn this was a week before it happened and I was in agony. Then we were at the movies with my uncle and I got home and I new I had started menstrating. I sliped into mum and dads room and stole a pad too embarressed to tell my mum. then mum and dad had gone to Hawaii for a holiday and we were staying with my grandparents and I had to ask my grandmother for money to buy some pads and my grandfather drove me down (he knew why I had to go) and oh god I just wanted to hide behind car seat.

Everything that wraps around my menstration is so negative which is why i most prob hate it so much. maybe after this pregnancy maybe it is time to turn it all around.

Really interesting thread... it's making me try to figure out  how I came to my views on what it's like having a period.

I don't see it as a feminine ritual time or really much of a positive thing that some are expressing here, so it's been eye opening and a positive experience to read others views.  Not that I hate it or am embarrassed by the blood either, for me it's just something that is.

However I do continue to think of it as a negative experience, if only because mine comes too frequently to be 'normal'.  I'd really love to be synced to a moon cycle of 28 days, but my body just doesn't seem to want to do better than 20 days for me.  Having endometriosis I am advised to use contraceptive pills to have the least amount of periods/hormone changes as possible, even as far as skipping them.  But that doesn't feel right for me either - all the chemical changes and side effects treat me badly.

So currently... not taking medications to control it.  Period every 3 weeks instead of 4.  And a nagging feeling in the back of my mind that I hope I'm not making my endometriosis worse by trying to be chemically 'pure' to what my body wants to be.  That's my negative thought about periods in a nutshell - that by letting my body have them I may be hurting myself in the long term.  Ugh.

Waterberry, perhaps you could spend some time outside at night time, to get yourself more in tune with the moon's cycles.

I read about a woman doing this some months ago (could probably find the link if you're interested) and it brought her cycle back to 28 days. I read it with interest because I was trying to bring my cycle down from 45 days. She had a 16 day cycle and it had been that way for many years. It took her about 6mths (if I remember correctly) to get to 28 days and it has stayed there now for years. Worth a try?

Wow that is interesting Emi. I would be interested in reading more about that.

My cycle, like Waterberry's is around 17 to 19 days. Being raw has lightened my periods but not halted them. I don't think of them as being a positive or negative thing... they are just here and that is it!

Annette, I've got a keeper too and it does leak on the second day usually. But I am exceptionally heavy on that day. It's like I get my whole period in one day. In past periods I have gone through a whole maternity pad in less than 10 minutes. One period I used over 30 maternity pads in one day. Thankfully they are a lot less now. Usually around two pads to a period.

A lot less landfill.

Emi, I have read something along the same lines about women being able to adjust their cycle by sleeping with a light on, on certain days.  I think the theory is that the moon cycle influences the menstrual cycle partially through the effects of light exposure on melatonin secretion levels and you can mimic this with artificial light.

...Gina, your cousin is blessed to have you in her life to show her the gift of being a menstruating woman.

Thanks Michelle, she's a special girl, I learn so much from her too smiley

Jen, I don't mean to laugh, but right now I really needed your lightheartdness.  I did find that I did try on the second day and it was quite heavy, not in need of 30 maternity pads....lol.  I will perserve with it.  Thank you

Dear Emi, thank you for the insight.

That idea is very definitely worth a try.  I'll see if I do some research to see if it's more necessary on certain days and as Migina suggests, use a light to sleep with some nights.

Hehe, I can see evening walks in my future Smiley
