Hey chickadees and chickadudes,

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of meal ideas for my little mango who turned 1 last friday (how quickly did that go?!)...
She's on 5 meals a day and *still* on booju (erm.. breast milk lol) but i wanted to  up her raw food intake, but am not sure what else to give her as shes gettin the hang of eating stuff with her hands but to make sure she's all feed up i like to spoon feed her some stuff too.. she loves blackberries, but im pretty sure she needs mroe then that hehe
so I was wondering what a typical day of food looks like for mainly raw babies...?
anyone game to share?

Hey Katie, good to see you back online!  Whats new? Hows Simon?

My "Baby Greens: A Live-Food Aproach for Children of All Ages" book has a chart that says what to feed your child at what age:

Birth (through to 18-24+ months)
- Breast Milk

6 months +
- Almond Milk
- Fresh juices
- mashed/ pureed raw fruits
- soaked dried fruit

8 months +
- raw veggie soups/purees
- pureed/mashed steamed veg
- seed miks
- tahini and other ground/blended seeds (LSA etc)

10 months +
- starchy foods: pureed cereals from sprouted wild rice, buckwheat, oats, barley, quinoa, millet etc
- cooked grains / potatoes

1 Year +
- acid fruits: citrus, tomatoes, berries
- raw honey
- fermented foods
- high protein foods: nut butters, ground/soaked/blended nuts, moderate use of legumes.

14-18 months +
- breads (dehydrated/baked)
- pasta
- family meals

Take from this what you will....   (not sure why a raw living food book is suggesting feeding cooked products... but it is just a guideline for food introduction, based on which foods may be compatible with baby's digestion at a particular month of age).

It also says for a more detailed raw chart, have a look at Rainbow Green Live Food Cuisine, by Gabriel Cousens. Does anyone have this chart handy?

My little one eats 4 times daily. He has most fruits and vegies, raw and cut up into bite-sized pieces. I try to stick to good food combining principles, but he has a few 'good' combos that he wont touch and other 'bad' combos he loves and eats without any problems - so let them guide you a little too.

Usually breakfast is melon of some sort. The two middle meals of the day are stone fruits, bananas, grapes and blueberries at the moment. The at dinner time he has an avocado and then a mixture of whatever I am putting into our salad. For example last night he had avo, tomato, capsicum and grated carrot.

I give him dried fruit, nuts and seeds a few times a week. He also has GS in iceblock form at least once a day.

My main aims are to offer variety, keep foods readily accessible for when he's hungry and of course lead by example. It's wonderful when he tries a new fruit or vegie and loves it.

Enjoy eating together!

Hi Katie,

Well my youngest is 18 mo.  He's breastfed....other than that he eats what i eat..nibbles, tastes, here and there. he will have about 60mls of my GS every morning after our usual morning boob..but throughout the day I couldn't really tell you how many times a day he eats other food or how many times a day he has the boob. I pretty much fed him the boob exclusively up until he was about 14 mo. I don't understand this need to rush to solids just because the 'experts' say so.  Babes imitate their careproviders...tastes, nibbles, here and there....i think it's too inconvenient to prepare separate food. much easier to whip out the boob, or chew a few mouthfuls of whatever you're having and passed it straight over, or little bits of food off your plate broken into pieces good for little fingers....takes away alot of the potential fuss around getting kids to eat some foods later on. But i rarely do things by the book so don't worry about me Wink I know my kids are thriving.

anyway....to give you something a bit more worthwhile..some things that my babe loves;

banana blended with coconut flesh & maca
green smoothies
sun-dried tomato hommous
pesto mushrooms
dehydrated banana & coconut bars/apple bars
carrot cake (raw of course)
all types of melons, fruit..little bite-sized chunks..

Baby greens is actually a good book about this sort of thing...many of the recipes i've made for myself and we've shared.

many blessings on your journey.

where does the time go?! sorry for not replying sooner.. life is hectic lol

Very informative post earthmum Smiley thanks!
Lea-ella is also still breastfed and is also fed a fair amount of 'good' cooked foods. Its easier for me to spoon feed her and then i can gauge how much shes eaten (typical fretful 1st time mum lol) but she's having fun munching on melon, balckberries and some other fruits.. tho i find that more ends up on the floor then in her belly lol... maybe i should just blend up the fruit that she doesnt herself and spoonfeed her the remainders...?
im making some almond and banana cookies in the dehydrator so ill see how she likes them (if i dont eat them all first hahahaha evil mother  evil Tongue).
do you happen to have a recipe for the raw carrot cake? sounds yummy !

Emi - your a star Smiley
doyou remember what you fed him when he was 1-ish? Ella's getting the hang of feeding herself but mainly likes to squish her finger foods or feed them to me so im trying to think of some easy meals that are packed full of nutrients that i can feed to her or that she is safe chewing herself...? any ideas?

Thanks everyone for your replys thumbup
keep them comming!

Katie as long as she is getting mainly bm (breastmilk) that is all she really needs just go with the flow and dont worry if she is munching most of it and it goes on the floor that is fine when she is only 1. Do what you feel is right. BM has all the nutrients etc for her so the rest of her food it just extra's.

You are doing great better then most mums I know so just keep following your gut remember you are her mum and you know what she needs the most.

Sending lots of love to you and L

Juniper loves sprouted brown lentils with herbal sprinkle at the moment, will much a handful.
She used to love the GS popsicles too but gone off GS all together now.
She also loves Buckwheat sprouts, they make a great cereal in the morning with some dried fruit almond/oat/any milk. do what ever, add banana, tahini, oats, finely grated apple, LSA.
We put cinnamon and honey sometimes, and allways with homemade yoghurt (she loves it!)
She is into red cabbage too, just sliced, and usually out of my bowl not hers?? dear thing.
