I saw a doco of some Buddhists a while back looking after some Tigers and feeding them Rice, Vegies and Chicken Stock but no Meat. These wild animals were like huge Kittens, very loving. The Buddhists belief was that if these animals tasted blood they would become savage again. So no meat was fed and it seems to be working.
Which makes me wonder if there is anyone out there who has any raw pets. Photos would be great. I will post mine soon.
I particularly would like to know if there is anyone feeding there cats vegan style (could be cooked), I have heard it has been done.

i do not believe it is good for the kittykitties because i subscribe to the theory that animals are built in order to eat a certain way.  kitty cats are built to tear into meats.

that's just what i believe though.

I strongly agree with Aguacate on feeding cats - I eat raw vegan because I believe that is how my body is designed to eat. I feed my beautiful Ruhsa raw meat because that is what I believe her body is designed to eat. She is beautiful and thriving and is very gentle and loving. I have had first hand experience with fully grown male cheetahs that were hand raised at an open range zoo and fed on a raw meat diet. They were beautiful, gentle pussy cats - I believe it is only human contact that is needed to produce an animal that is gentle, not a meat free diet.

If you browse through the 'Raw Pets' section of the forum you will find lots of stories and opinions on feeding animals raw. Also, the two gorgeous rats pictured with me in my forum photo are both thriving raw vegans.

Hi FreedomB, I would like to read the Raw Pets section. Can you give me the link. The other thing, is there a search engine on this site to locate specific articles on the forum.

For the search function, go to the very top of the screen, and just above the big peach  it says "search Raw Pleasure...". Put your cursor in there and type a word  or two.

For Raw pets, go to the main forum page... and you'll find a sub heading.. Raw pets... Freedom is the moderator for this section.

my cat is a proud raw cat!

a raw MEAT EATING cat!

Those sharp fangs, those sharp claws, the short digestive track, the harsh stomach acids, the killer instincts... positively scream OBLIGATE CARNIVORE!

Personally I think it is one of the cruellest things to do to sacrifice an animal's true needs to honour one's own ethics... if your ethics are that strong... get another kind of animal whose biological needs reflect your ethics!

Just as we raw vegans know we can never be truly healthy without lots of the foods we're designed for - ie raw fruits and vegies - so too should we respect that our furry friends cannot be truly healthy without lots of the foods they're designed for!

I feed my kitty a mixture of pork, chicken, beef and fish, chicken wings for her teeth and organ meats like chicken hearts and livers. Do I like the meat? No, it's gross. But hey, I wanted a cat! I consider my duty.

raw feeder here too.

i'm owned by two felines, 8mth old tortishell and a 5yr male moggie. my kitten has pretty much been brought up on a raw diet, she's taken to it really well. my male was only changed to raw about 6 months ago and he adores it all ...  he always wants more!

the coat of my kitten is as smooth as silk.

i'm really surprised and very impressed about feeding my cats what they're meant to be eating. no more stinky and sickening tin food smell around the house! i highly agree with everything princessbee had to say for sure.

note: this is my first post, new to the area, and i'm really happy to be posting about something i'm so passionate about! now i just need to work out an awesome raw dog diet for when i'm owned by a dog.

Did you find that people with allergies are less allergic to raw cats? We had a friend staying with us who were allergic to cats and was surprised that she did not suffer any attack. Great stuff! ohyeah

Welcome sing.song. Have fun here!

Sunheart that's something that I never thought of before.

My dog is a raw dog. She never gets fleas and she never gets bad breath. She does get that doggie smell though. ewwww!

We do not feed the girls exclusively raw but The Pauper enjoyed stealing Dan's chicken from the cutting board so much he gives her a small dish each time he has it. Raw meat is the only food she doesn't "hunt"- she stalks her dry food and tosses it around the kitchen. She doesn't seem to care for raw fish unless it has a chance to dry out first. We give it to her just like the chick but she watches it for a few days then eats it up. Any top-notch books out there for raw cats? Cheetahs are my fave big cats- i would love a body like that! So graceful and determined.

And spotty!

I adore big cats too. There is something majestic about them isn't there? Interesting that your cat likes the fish dried a little first. I wonder how much fish cats eat in the wild?

When i was younger, i spent a summer in MN at the lake. There was a family of feral cats who adopted me. The queen was preg and adored laying in my lap being loved on. Her trust brought the trust of her current litter- originally, they'd run off into the brush when i came around. The last member of the family was a tom w/1 ear. The other appeared to have been lost to frostbite. His trust took the longest to gain. @ the x, i was a veg and animal rights nazi but, because of that gorgeous family, i found myself down lakeside fishing. As soon as the perch were off the hook, they'd be carried- or dragged, in the case of the kittens- to be eaten. It got to the point that all would come running when i walked out the house! The best vacation ever.

Must take back the fish comment- The Pauper loves catfish. She likes to p/u her chick & eat it out of paw too. & Princess was eating Paup's chick today & seemed much calmer for it- still suffers skin issues. Love

For anyone in Sydney who wants to swap their cats and dogs onto raw meat but doesn’t want to actually touch and cut up the meat themselves, here is the link for an organic natural pet food company who does raw meat and vegetable mixtures:

http://www.balizwoofwoof.com.au

I have not tried them yet but will, as their products look very good and very natural.
