hey there all you amazing RAWIST'S,

i have been inspired to change our lifestyle, but am under no illusion that it will be difficult and challenging, but im excited.
A little about me. Im a busy mother of two busy and creative children, 6 and 4, and live with my husband of ten years. My partner and i use to follow a vegan diet, and over the last 2 years  have slipped and starting eating meat....urgrgrgrghrhrhrhrh, and lots of other nasties. Although relatively healthy due to my daughter being lactose intolerant, and both my husband and daughter unable to handle colors, flavours, and preservatives, i bake and cook amazing healthy foods. But in saying that, i have put on weight and feel tired all the time, and i just want a change.
About 8 years  ago we purchased Julianos' RAW, the uncook  book. I tried a few recipes and then put it back in my cupboard as it all looked to hard. Well its out of the cupboard, and im keen.

I suppose the first step is to purchase a dehydrator and experiment. the hardest part will be converting the kids. I am also going to eliminate processed bread as of now. Im still going to cook yummy hot dinners ( i love my curries).
Baby steps will be the way to go, especially to help the kids transition easier.  Im hoping to get a dehydrator before xmas.

will keep you updated.

ps.great site, i have been reading lots of posts for the past hour.
Thanks for reading

cheers

Welcome! Looking forward to reading your journey as you go along.

There is lots of info here and on the web to get you through and recipes galore. It's worth having a look around.

We haven't got a dehydrator and get by. There are times when I would like one, but I also love the idea of everything still being fresh and juicy. It's not a necessity, but from what I've read it can transition easier.

When we started out, I just added raw foods to our diet in higher and higher quantities. After awhile everyone would want less cooked foods and look for more raw fruit and veg. Perhaps that would work for your kids too.

Ask as many questions as you need to. Good luck!

Hi Stickynicky, welcome! I'm sure you will find many great ideas here as well. I love the idea of baby steps. One at a time! Good stuff. Can't wait to hear more from you.

Hi Stickynicky,

Welcome!

I found that having a dehydrater helped me heaps in the beginning, making lots of transition food, but even now, I still use it heaps, though not as much. My family couldn't get by without crackers!
In the beginning I made lots of comfort food, like spinachpies with lots of nuts and fats, but as we got used to eating raw, we eat simpler and simpler, just enjoying the tastes of the different foods in a wonderful way  yahh

As Savvy Woman points out, you just eat more and more fresh of everything :-)

Enjoy and good luck with it,

Vikinggirl

Nooooo. Unfortunately not. How much will you be using? If it's only a little then I wouldn't worry too much. If you can go for organic as they bleach the non organic pretty heavily apparently.

Have fun experimenting. I ate loads and loads of gourmet to start with. Loads. Twas fun. We all enjoyed it and I still enjoy it now and then. I adore my fresh stuff now though. Yum!!!

okay that changes things a little.

Im still going to use the dessicated coconut i have. I dont like wasting things, so im going to slowly use up everything in my cupboard. Its also a money issue. I just spent a fortune on fruit and vege and after my morning juice, i need to go out and buy more pineapple and oranges. And nuts arent cheap either, so this will be a slow process for us.

For breaky so far i have had my coffee with soy milk ( love my coffee), and made up a juice with oranges, apples, ginger, celery parsley. The kids even enjoyed it aswell. I made the kids buckwheat pancakes, and i havent had the urge to try them yet.

At this stage, i must admit, i think it is going to be harder than first thought. Alot of people on here make it sound so good and easy.......................hhhhmmmmmmmmmm lets wait and see.

I think any change with the way eat is good, and im really excited about it.

thanks for reading

funny that,

i bought a coconut last week and im still trying to figure out how im going to open it.........................lol.

its all cool. Im making lots of juices, and have changed my daily lunch time sandwich routine to a salad....eg, today i added salmon, tommorow i might add egg. Slowly does it for me. Im craving bread.

I made a pasta tonight for dinner, but i didnt have bread with it, just salad.

im researching where im going to buy my seeds from. so much to learn.....................COCAO powder, never heard of it before until now, same as agave nectar.WHAT THE...Huh?.....................this is such a new and different way of eating.

yesterday i made my yummy sweet, and instead of cooking the dates, just soaked them for a couple of hours, and it makes  such a difference to the flavour.......................

cheers, stickynicky

hit the coconut hard with the back of a knife...it will fall open inyour hand....have fun!

you are transitioning well...perhaps eat more food,if you are craving bread, usually means more carbs are needed(in reference to eating more fruit?)

doing well..glad you are enjoying! dates are delicious arent they!

Not selling the coconut graters right now Neet. Hope to get them back soon though. It's been too damned long.

Sticky one, there are some great vids on youtube on how to crack a mature coconut. If you want to open a young one just go to youtube and search Roe Gallo and young coconut. A great vid! Once you get the flesh out you can pop it through your food processor and sun dry it or dehydrate it and then pulse it in the blender for a dessicated effect.

I can't waste stuff either Sticky. I understand where you are coming from totally.

Enjoy!

thank you for all your advice.

I had a wonderful day yesterday in the melbourne sun and planted more herbs and veges in heaps of pots around my backyard.
Im loving having more fruits and veges i my daily diet, but found i was shaking this morning. It was like my blood sugar was very low, so i came home at 10am and had eggs on toast, tahini and honey on toast. It was great.

This is a very slow process for me, and im doing ok. I made homemade pizza for dinner, and instead of using tomato paste, i mixed up fresh tomatoes, garlic, parlsey and red kidney beans and used that as my base. the kids werent too keen, but finished up most of what was on their plate.

Cheers

I remember the first time that happened to me. The bod is starting to rebalance itself. Wonderful! It's scary though when you get the shakes the first time isn't it?

So glad you are enjoying the extra F + V. Yum!
