something to that effect was on the local news just the other night. if you look at the era that spawned the 6-8lbs average healthy baby size (at least in the us) one will notice that the same era spawned the "science knows better than nature" mode of thinking; including formula vs. breast, allowing baby to "cry it out", etc... i was talking with hubby about this and said, "why is that they pay so much attention to body-types when speaking of adults and don't think it has any such basis on children?" it is ridiculous to stick everyone in the same que... sort of like keeping all japanese in work camps because we're at war with japan. oh, wait... that's right- the us did that! silly me... i still can't help but think how much money is wasted on obvious issues. i find it difficult to believe anything that has to do with an outdated mode of thinking (like growth charts which are based on formula fed infants... written in the '50's- lol) recently, there was a report that said we should begin introducing COOKED GRAINS to our babies prior to 6mos(!!!) so as to avoid any sensitivity... so, somewhere, because this was released by the aap, there's a ped telling his patient's mother to go ahead and give him some powdered, enriched rice cereal at 2mos- simply because the aap is the powers that be and no one dares to question the "authority". paging dr. nestle! oh, those growth charts are also based on babes born to women who were told to keep smoking so they didn't gain too much weight... grrrr....
(sorry about the rant... lol)
