Hey Larlie,

There are oodles of ways to make raw icecream, especially if you have an icecream maker.  Yes, using almond milk or brazil nut milk as a base is possible.  Cashews and coconut flesh are also popular bases for raw icecream.

Try searching on the site here (search box is in the top left hand corner) for any recipes.

If you REALLY love ice cream - you might want to get a copy of the book Vice Cream - it's in the RP shop, and it has about 70 dairy-free recipes.  Not all the recipes are strictly raw, as some are sweetened with maple syrup, but all can easily be adapted and sweetened with agave, yakon syrup or dates.

Try googling for raw icecream recipes too - there's so much online these days, that I'm sure you'll find some great recipes.

Have fun!

Hi missgiggles,

I am learning my way around this site and you sure have been a big help.  Thank you!  I was hoping for a little search button and now I am going to explore further.  Don't think I can afford the book just yet.

Besides, I only ordered my icecream machine today and I am just getting ready. lol  I have some frozen banana, know how to make a nut milk in my Vitamix, love fresh fruits, and need to get up to speed with agave which everyone seems to mention, but have no idea what it is.  How does one get coconut flesh - not into trying to bust up a coconut!  What is yakon syrup?Huh  Indeed, what is a yakon?  More questions.  Sorry.  I will use google a bit more accurately as previously, all I saw were recipes with huge amounts of dairy and I started to panic.  I do not want to make dairy icecream.

Does anyone know why my Vitamix bowl is now leaking at the base?  I can't afford tto pay $250 for a new one.

Thank you so much for your effort miss g.  Much appreciated.
cheers, larlie

Ah, ok - then there is time for you to do some reading & research and hunt down some recipes before your new toy arrives!

www.goneraw.com has lots of recipes, including raw icecreams made on nutmilks.

Agave & yacon (not yakon - sorry I always spell it with a "k" for some reason when not thinking) are both sweeteners.

Agave syrup is extracted from a cactus, and yacon is the tuberous root of a plant.  Both are low G.I. and used extensively in raw food recipes.  You can just as easily use maple syrup.  It depends on each individual's own discernment.

Frozen bananas themselves can be made into raw icecream.  If you have frozen them in pieces, you just let them defrost a little then add them to a food processor and process with the 's' blade.  Or, you can blend them in your Vitamix, I'm sure, but may need to be more careful with the added power.  You'll end up with bananas the consistency of soft serve.  You could blend in a ground vanilla bean or cacao powder etc. for variations.

I'm sorry - I can't help on the leaky Vitamix, but it might just be the gasket (the rubber seal) that needs replacing?

Thanks for that advice missgiggles.  I have been looking at that website.  My aim is to make a fantastic icecream to share with you all - the recipe, I mean.  Unfortunately, the Vitamix is not easily fixable - just took it for repair this am - I bought mine in Queensland.  Does anyone know of a Melbourne contact, please?

Hi Larlie. I've sent you a pm regarding the vitamix with a contact for you. Just have a look where it says "my messgaes" and click there.

Sorry, forgot to say that it is free, by email.

I just made a batch and it turned out fantastically. Now if only I could work out how to make dehydrated waffle like cones Smiley

Cheers,
Steve.

You can use dehydrated banana layer. (blend, layer, dehydrate, cupt up in circles, cut up in cones, voila!)

Another great solution for cones is to blend mature coconut with water, vanilla bean and agave until it's quite runny. Spoon onto a non stick sheet and put in the dehydrator until crispy. These are flat like cookies but you can make the best, and I mean the best ice-dream sandwiches with them!
