Hi everyone,

I'vd so missed you all, and I've ssoooooo missed eating raw- yep, succumbed to peer/societal/ "health" pressure and have been eating cooked, cooked and more cooked. And guess what- I FEEL AWFUL!

So, here goes, I finally read the free e-book from rawpleasure, and I'm taking the 10 day challenge- trying for 100%. Anyone want to join me? yahh

Will post my daily eating diary here, it's so good to be back, ohyeah

Love to all,

Good to see you again! Best wishes for your challenge. There is a 60 day challenge going on the Successes board if you would like to join in there you are welcome or perhaps a 10 day challenge would be easier to monitor for people who find 60 days a little daunting...

Hey Jen, nice to see you too!

You know, I would love to jump in with you guys on the 60 day challenge- it would take care of winter and all, but I don't think I'm quite there yet- who knows I might sign up when these 10 days are up! Thanks Jen, you are always so prompt to reply- I am really appreciative of that.

Well, I've been having just a lovely time- going raw is beautiful isn't it.

Have discovered yoga again- and again, it's wonderful!

Writing down what I've eaten seems so tedious, so I'm choosing to let that slide, and instead concentrate on the feelings associated with eating and being raw. I have been noticing that goosebump feeling you get when you know you're doing something great for your body. I'm taking the time to actually taste the food and feel the texture etc, sometimes eating salad with my fingers (oooohhh, how nice that is!)

Pretty close to 100% yesterday- only a coffee and a little bit of chicken with dinner, so that's fine by me.

On the coffee front- I've been weaning myself off that addictive little number- just some background- I have a three year old who has never been a good sleeper, and who is now finally sleeping like a log at night, only to wet the bed every night! So, along with not having a good night's sleep comes the feeling that a quick pick up will help- thus the coffee addiction. But.... I have graduated to green tea in the morning and one coffee mid-morning, I ordered some herbal coffee that arrived today, so we'll see. I have set the intention to give it up. So I'll leave it there.

Speaking of intention- I have also just set the intention to eat raw, and also not to give myself a hard time if I don't stick to 100%. Just get back up and get back on that horse!!!

It's such a delicious feeling when energy is just whizzing around the old bod- that's what I'm feeling predominantly, this tremendous enerGY! Also I feel more able to breathe- and those breaths are longer. Nice.

XOXOXO  afro

It seems like you are doing really well!

I could not agree more: just give it your best every day and if one day things don't go 100% well try again the next day.

You HAVE to come and join us though on the 60 day LOVE BOAT once you have finished your own 10 day challenge.... Woot WOoot!!!

Ok, so now the nice girl is gone - outahere- I'm officially CRANKY MUM.

I'm guessing this is the day three blues. GGGGRRRRRRR.... So far I've had watermelon for breakfast, yelled at both my children, had two cups of coffee, yelled a bit more, made chocolate muffins (and had one), eaten what I've lately dubbed "happy salad" which is just normal salad that you eat with your fingers,  washed down with a toasted cheese sandwich - I was hoping that would help, and I think it might have.

My eldest is twelve, and this being the last day of term, and she being in her first year of high school, she's having the day off (one of my weaker moments this morning "but no one else is going Muuummm.......") When she stays home, my youngest (three and a half) gets so excited to have a playmate, that things get very overcrazy, and someone ALWAYS ends up in tears. Today it is very nearly all three of us. (and probably the dog too, just from listening to it all)

Sooooo... I really didn't want to journal today because I don't really think anyone want to listen to a madwoman rave on and on about herself and her feelings, but then this wouldn't be a true journal would it? I have spent a lot of my life just "being nice". Aren't we all taught that when we're little- just be nice and everyone will like you! AAHHHHH!!

I am a Buddhist (have been for four years- still got a long way to go!), my teacher is a little different from the norm- I study Meditation in Daily Life rather than sitting practice. Basically you just are mindful of your thoughts, feelings, and all six senses while going about your day. Well, this going raw is giving me lots to practice on!

AHA. So it's a GOOD thing. that got me. (A little light comes on from way down within, and breathing becomes easier)  Anyway thanks for listening to the rave, I won't apologise in true nice girl style. Surprisingly I feel better. Green smoothie coming my way!!!!

Take care everyone, hope you're having a joyful Friday XOXOXO

Oh Fairy Girl! I'm sorry but your last post make me laugh out loud! Mad woman... noooo. It sounds to me like withdrawal symptoms. After all you were cutting a lot out of your life at once. Funny girl.

If you had given up smoking, for example, and got mad and had a blowout... you would have connected the dots! I'm still giggling. I'm sorry. I do feel for you but your self expression was great!

The old toasted cheese sandwiches were my downfall as well for a long time. But that's another story.

Ummmm... a suggestion that you can either take or leave. As a mother of two little ones you are already under a lot of pressure. Take some off. Going raw is a lot easier without toddlers I'm assured! Why don't you allow yourself a small amount of cooked per day. A cooked snack? Whatever you like. For my first few months of raw I would still have lasagne, pizza, McD's (dear God forgive me), toasted cheese sandwiches, alcohol (in copious amounts), apple pie, ice-cream and more.

And you know what happened? Gradually I started to not want them anymore. They just didn't feel as good. I spent a lot of time here and reading raw material and now there is loads of vids on you tube as well. Awesome. Loads of inspiration.

You'll get there.

I was listening to Wayne Dyer today and he was saying that when he was a counsellor he would tell people who were smoking to love their addiction. Because what we fight weakens us and what embrace makes us stronger. He said that if you have a cigarette, don't get down on yourself for having a cigarette, say over and over and over... I am a non smoker and gradually you won't want them any more.

I did this with Raw Food and geez it worked well and saved me some grief too. I love Wayne. Imagine having him as a counsellor. Kwor.

Of course if you are a hard core girl who wants to go 100% overnight and you know you can do it that is your choice. I just never did well with boundaries so I did it my way!

Hi,

Sorry Eve, I didn't reply to your post yet- thanks for your post, and the offer to joint the Love Boat.... do do de doooo..... didn't you just love the Love Boat on telly!! I'll jump on board when this ten dayer is up, I'm trying to settle back in quietly. I love your message tho- follow those dreams- yeah baby!

And you, Sensational One, thanks again for your kind words, glad you got a chuckle, actually, I just re-read my post from yesterday and had a little laugh at myself (you know you're a grown up when you can laugh at yourself, or so I've heard...) And of course, you're right, fighting it is not ever going to work. Love is the way!!

Anyway, today has been wonderful. I can't imagine it being any better. The day is glorious, the kids are being angels (must have scared them yesterday lol) and I'm feeling great. I'm starting to get that old raw feeling back- you know the one where you just HAVE to run, skip, jump places (I'm not up to cartwheels yet, although I can feel one coming).

I got up this morning after a full night's sleep -Hoooray!! and cuddled my two girls after changing no#2's bed and giving her a bath- apparently she did wet the bed, but didn't wake up she was so tired. I cut up heaps of fruit, had a warm herbal tea, and we all sat around peacefully and ate breakky. Then I challenged them to a run down the driveway to get hubby's paper. I actually RAN down and raced them home again. WOW. That hasn't happened since last time I was eating raw. WHOOOHOOO. The kids think I'm crazy, but they like it better than cranky.

Then we played outside in the beautiful sunshine, skipping, trampolining, swinging, chasing, laughing, exploring. Fan-raw-fairy-tastic!!

And then I ran into a plank and almost broke my nose. Hubby has been fixing the roof on the cubby and of course left all his stuff out. I turned to come inside, and as I was wearing a hat, didn't see the plank right at nose height! Oh it hurt, and I cried, but that's all ok. I've got a bandaid on it 'cause the flap of skin might be rubbed off by an over affectionate cuddle by my three yr old.

But it didn't spoil my day- everything just seems so bright and colourful, I'm enjoying being more sensitive to sights, sounds and touches.  Hope the sun is shining at your place!!!

Hey there,

Thanks for your posts Sanghama and Eve, I'm yet to check out your journals, but I'll drop by soon.

I've lost count, but I think this is day 5? Anyway, whatever day it is, I've decided that T is for Transition. It's all well and good aiming for 100% (and good on anyone who can do it), but it's just way hard. And I want this to be a nice experience for myself and for my family.

So, my transition is going as follows- Breakky (easy for me, as I love fruit) is fruit. Pure and simple. And a herbal tea (I've graduated again from the green tea) That has been since day 1. Easy. Kids have fruit and then they have an option to have toast or cereal, wichever they want. The 12 yr old mostly just has fruit, the 3yr old sometimes wants cereal and/or milk. Hubby is not raw, and never wants to be. Which is fine.

Then, I have a bowl of nuts on the table all day with which to curb cravings. (the kids eat them too)

Morning tea is coffee (have cut down A LOT) with fruit  and /or cooked muffin, whatever. I've left this meal alone because it's a real killer for me - maybe not enough for breakky? Perhaps I'll start having a green smoothie as well at morning tea.

Lunch is my happy salad with something cooked if I want it(go the toasted cheese sambo).

Afternoon tea has been a green smoothie or carrot juice etc, but for the last two days I've caved and had a coffee (and so missed out on the GS, which I absolutely feel the worse for) so must change that. Normally I have a banana or two here because I'm notoriously tired in the afternoons.

Dinner Iv'e decided to just increase the raw % and decrease the cooked %. Last night I cooked a roast (sorry rawbies, but it has to be done for my very meaty eaty hubby) so I just had raw pumpkin ribbons, raw cabbage, raw corn and a couple of pieces of cooked potato and a really small piece of pork. That worked well, and I even got my 3yo to eat some raw pumkin. (she doesn't like cooked vegies at all- she's got the right idea already!)

If I'm still hungry (which is unusual), I will allow myself a cup of warm milk after dinner (just can't stomach anything else raw by then).

So, I don't know exactly how the percentages add up, but anyway, it's a LOT better than I had been eating, and that's the whole point isn't it?!!!! ohyeah

I think that's a great idea rawfairylady!

When I first started raw I read somewhere that is not about what you leave out but about the amount of raw you add, obviously the amount of cooked will drop automatically when you increase raw, and it takes away the feeling of "I cannot have this".

Just keep on truckin'

Thanks Eve, you're absolutely right- more raw+less cooked= happy me!

Although... I must confess, today has been a little less raw than I wanted. Don't know if I've softened a little too much on myself. Must do some more raw reading to build up resolve again.

Also, I find that if my normal routine is upset and I am not organised properly, I fall back on cooked stuff for ease. So with school hols and being a taxi service, I'm struggling to find time to prep my own raw stuff. but, hey it doesn't take long to grab an apple or carrot does it- (maybe it's just an excuse).

And I thought ten days raw would be a snap! This is day 6 and I'm already sliding back down to Cooked-Ville when I want to be high up on Raw Mountain!! Hmmmm, cool air on my face, energy pumping through my veins, lightness within... gotta start climbing again!!!

ah fairy  you are great fun! I can imagine you playing and skipping around in the garden like a fairy!

I reckon the sensation of eating with hands must be great for stimulating digestion. I eat with my hands a lot actually too  laugh

I can't recommend highly enough having a stash of whole foods or cut up fruit and salad veggies that you can eat when you have no time to prep. Apples, pears, grapes, plums, nanas. Perhaps cut up extra fruit (melon, pineapple, kiwifruit/anything that needs prep) in the morning. It's more efficient to do food prep in big batches. You can cut up celery and store it in a container in water, cut up cucmber, whatever salad veggies you use then chuck em together when you're in need. If you have dressing, have one made up. Instead of dressing I find juicy tomatoes wonderful. It's astounding how much you need to eat to make up a healthy intake of calories

You're so strong and I love your fun posts! I get giggles from you! That's a wonderful gift. yahh

Awwww... thanks Jungle. I'm glad I give you giggles. Here's a hug too (((()))).

Definitely going to cut up some stuff in advance- thanks for the tip!

Day 7. Was reading Detox your World last night (my one and only raw book) and I almost convinced myself to take the last three days of my 10 day challenge and do Shazzie's Three Day Detox. But then I started making a shopping list.... wow, it would cost me a fortune to get all the powders, green superfood and stuff she recommends. If I had no kids, lots of time and a big budget, I would love to do it, but I decided against it in the end.

So, I'm back to beautiful ripe, yummy fruit and lots of Happy Salad, and green smoothies. Today's morning tea was raw (except for the coffee rolleyes) and I didn't miss the muffin or bicky, so I'm getting there. I'm finding I'm not getting up and craving breakfast straight away like I used to - well, actually if I went back just a couple of weeks, I would be having coffee first, then maybe another, and then cereal with milk and a bit of fruit. Now, I have two glasses of tank water with lemon squeezed into them, sometimes a herbal tea, then lots of fruit. So, I'm doing ok huh!

Will check out how much I need to eat to get proper amount of calories- pretty sure I'll be surprised.

Weather's great, my beautiful girls are, well, beautiful and all is well in fairyland!! Love to all.
