I love date scones.

I brought some today from from Bakers Delight but they gave me heartburn because they were quite oily / greasy ~ plus the cheap ingredients left a peculiar taste in my mouth.

I have got to stop eating processed flour products because they are no good for my UC.

I am getting a dehydrator soon, so no doubt will start experimenting with different recipes.

I have done a search for raw date scones but just keep getting matches for raw sugar that you use in normal scones.

Is there is a raw version?

Many thanks

I haven't heard of one yet but it could be worth investigating. Organic Girl brought a cake to a picnic a little while back that tastes like a regular cake and was springy too. She had dehydrated it. I'll talk to her or maybe she will read this and post the recipe. mmmm. She is a kitchen goddess.

I'll give it a bash and let you know what I come up with!

Wow...thanks Jen...what a compliment Smiley

As for date scones, never tried to make any but i'd just try blending up some soaked nuts (almonds, cashews, maca's and/or pecan's) with some agave, vanilla bean, and you could also use mesquite if you have any. Then add your chopped dates and mix through then put balls of it on teflex sheets in the dehydrator and flatten them a bit so they dry quicker. Then dehydrate overnight...check them and keep doing so until they are like you want them moisture wise. Good luck!

Hi Organic girl,
i was hoping you might post the recipe for the cake Jen mentioned.....light and springy, it sounds good. Can you also mention a bit more about how you use Mesquite Meal.
thanks!

Hullo Jayatma. Nice to see your lovely face! What a great photo. I love the tree...

Just in case OG is not online again for awhile I thought I would stick my face in here. I use mesquite as a caramel flavouring in smoothies, balls, bars and cakes. When it's blended with soaked dates and almond milk and bananas it's about the best smoothie ever!

You can also blend frozen bananas and mesquite to make caramel ice-cream which is delicious.

I make some nut balls and then roll them in mesquite too. Delish!

ahh interesting..KK...my Mumma use to make the nicest date scones when i was a little bitty thing..and she used wholemeal flour, and i use to devour them, with the thickest slashings of butter on them...and then spend the next day in bed in pain, and having diahorrea not knowing why.....even back then couldnt digest them well..

hey i waas meant to be a rawie(as we all are i guess to some degree...)or at very least high rawie and nothing stomach destroying like processed flours and sugars etc...

hey i still love dates though lol....

some cool ideas for raw scones though...would imagine they could be like litl rocks though..hey why dont you pm catmom, she is a mega whizz in teh raw kitchen..

luck!

You could get some raw sprouted buckwheat flour and mix it with soaked dates, for extra moisture add some date soak water or a nce ripe banana... mix the Buckwheat flour, soak water and or banana then add chopped soaked dates at the end so that you don't mush them all up then shape into scones and place in your dehydrater for about 1-2 hours. Or just eat as they are. this is a nice light version.. no nuts or seeds.

If you want them a  bit more substantial you could add sprouted dehydrated almond meal to the buckwheat flour.. this would make them really delicious! A dash of ground vanilla bean would be nice too!

have fun. If I get time I will have a go at them tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
