ah sunheart, you underestimate the draw of viewing a train wreck! You know you should avert your eyes, you want to avert your eyes, but the sheer scale of if it makes you look...... and there will be the analysis as to
why, but why? just like there is after a train wreck, doesn't help the train or anyone on the train, but the analysis goes on.
So here is a bit more analysis......
Was Harley banned on Saturday or Sunday? It can be marked in the calendar and on that day next year this thread can be resurrected, with all the people that have stopped posting because Harley has been banned can come back and say 'see you missed me!' and anyone here on a regular basis will go 'huh? who? where'd that thread come from?'
An internet message board means nothing, the community built within means something to the people in it, but to outsiders it means as good as nothing. Harley doesn't post here anymore, May doesn't post here anymore, they left for different reasons, but does it matter to anyone outside? Only if someone is going on and on about it and boring the people outside and they want them to stop going on about it so it can go back to its rightful importance level of being an online message board, ie not very important to people not participating on the message board. Gee, it's probably not that important to most people reading it and is only ranks as important to a few active participants.
It's standard group dynamics, storming and forming, nothing unusual about it. Stuff happens, and someone else will take on the difficult one tag, I'm sure some people are putting that tag on me at the moment. Stuff happens and someone else will get the tag, things will fall apart and be put back together again, hopefully in slightly different way, and then that will shift again. This message board was never intended to be a platform for an individual, there are group dynamics at play, group dynamics mean there are accepted levels of behaviour. Boundary pushing is for the benefit of the person finding the acceptable limits within that group, it's not for the benefit of the group. Harley wasn't pushing any boundaries with his message, he was just pushing the boundaries with the acceptable level of delivery of his message.
Group dynamics are working because it is a group, storming and forming are what happens, it's not static, online identities come and go.

people can be as bored or as outraged about it as they want, they are entitled to their opinions. Will it change what's happened? no, though it may change what happens in the future, within the group and/or outside of the group.
