Hi all,

So the last week or so I've really been having trouble producing enough milk to keep by little man happily fed. I first put it down to lack of water and calories. I have been forcing water down but I don't know if that is the issue because I seem to still have the problem when I do drink a heap. I am trying to eat more to but mut admit it is proving very time consuming to source enough organic fruit to fuel my colorie needs and I have been very sensitive to non-organic food of late. Other factor is stress which may be the cause. I am taking advice from another forum and spending heaps of time lazing around with him on the boob as much as possible. Still, I am getting so emotional about not having enough to satisfy him when he wants it. I want to do the right thing - breastfeed as long as possible and eat the right diet that fuels this but what I am doing isn't working. I am considering introducing cooked grains or perhaps sprouted back into my diet which I really don't want to do but I just wany my bubba fed most of all.

Any ideas very welcome but please be supportive because it's a sensitive issue for a well-meaning new mumma Smiley

Oh Jungle.... (((hug for you)))

Wish I could be more help, I have only breastfed on cooked foods. I do know this though- the more you put him on to suck, the more milk you will make, so it sounds like you're doing the right thing there.

Is your let-down working ok? If you're tense, it will cause less let-down. just relaxxxxx while you're feeding- really focus on getting into that zone, relax those shoulders and get really comfy- make it the only thing in your world. Of course you're under stress, I really feel for you.

Love fairy xoxoxoxo

I agree with Fairy, babies go through stages where they need more milk so they suckle more to produce that milk, you may not think he's getting enough but it's just nature's way of making more, relax.  How long has this been going on though.

Thanks lovelies. He's 4 months old. Probably has been going on for about a week, on and off. It's been better today, I've been relaxing while feeding him and getting into milky bonding visualisation and just feeling and thinking more positively about the situation. So it's looking okay! I was a bit panicy this morning. It's alright now. x

Hi Jungle,

With my first baby, I followed stupid book advice to feed by the hour and for specified lengths of time, and as a result of this I failed to produce enough milk and my son ended up eating stupid fake milk. With my second baby, I let her have it any time she wanted for as long as she wanted, even hours (ha ha!) and I never ever had any problems at all. In fact at times I had to ask her to help me out to make me comfortable (lol!) as I had so much. I observed that from time to time, as she grew bigger, she required more and a simple trick was to let her suck for much longer than usual (with no time constraints) which quickly resulted in a larger production. I breastfed until about she was about 3.5.

So do not worry, Jungle, you do have enough. Simply let your baby do the job! It WIILL work, I promise. Smiley

oooxxx,
Gosia

Good that things are improving - hope they continue to do so. I absolutely agree with all the advice here (such wise ladies) to relax, let her suck and know that you're doing a great job (most important!)

I would only add, greens. Eat more greens if you can. Greens, greens, greens. It is my solution to most things though lol.

I'm so glad things are better too, you know sometimes when James was younger it felt like I fed him ALL day, I literally felt like I was sitting down feeding non stop, but it all works out.  It's lovely to cuddle up to them anyway.

Here's an article from Kate Wood on raw breastfeeding.

http://www.shazzie.com/raw/articles/breastfeeding.shtml

I know it's far from 80/10/10 so it might not be appropriate for you, Jungle, but worth a look?

Thank you all for helpful...help! All is ok! I am trusting myself and just feeding, feeding, feeding, drinking enough water and relaxing about it. There is so much fear and science surrounding parenting but simple loving care (and greens  laugh) are nearly always behind the situation!
