Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone can share their experience/knowledge regarding "safe" water bottles - bottles which don't leach chemicals into the water?

I have found a brand called "klean kanteen" but wanted to find out what people think are the best brands or what features to look out for based on their own experience.

Thanks!

If you go to Kmart they have a great 1L glass water bottle with a stopper on a metal swing arm for about $7. It's the best bet I think personally. Each time one type of plastic is 'outed' another seems to replace it as the safe option, however a few years later something else is discovered and it's outed too. Some 'safe' bottles here are plastic lined aluminium (I don't think so!!! Not in my world view).

Pretty much all plastic baby bottles on the market in Canada have just been pulled off the shelves and everyone is switching to glass.

Glass is the way to go in my opinion! Just be careful and it will last a long long time.

Thanks Sheryl. I agree about the plastic issue. I definitely wanted to steer clear of plastic. The klean kanteen's are stainless steel and apparently recyclable...

We have some of those glass water bottles with stoppers and they are great at home but they tend to leak a bit if put on their side ...  Food for thought though.

Hi Eve,

We've been buying them in all the different colours and they do look good don't they?

We like using the green bottle to make "wine" with raw juices to take to dinner parties. It does look authentic!

I've just bought a SIGG bottle for my child. They are Swiss made aluminium water bottles. They claim that you can keep highly acidic juices in them as well and that nothing is going to happen to the inside of the bottle. Also, unlike plastic ones these bottles are stink free. We'll see...  cool

Have a look at this link: http://www.mysigg.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=5

The downside is that they are ridiculously expensive in Australia, so it's probably cheaper to order them online.

Good luck!

I was going to suggest the Sigg brand as well. The only problem we have found with them is that the lids kind of vaccum seals shut and it's sometimes too hard for the kids to open them. I hope we can get new lids somewhere.

glass is the best option. but plastic is most practical if you gotta carry it on your bike etc.

i go for 'food grade' standard bottle made by a cycling company called bbb. most bike shops can get em in. just ask for em.

10$ for about a 700ml.
sure is full o chems, but a lot less than any other option i could ride with..
