Decided to try out foraging with the kiddies today...wasnt sure how we would go.....

Got this box of wild greens and carrots from family whom have let their garden go to waste....
Fresh organic spinnach, carrots and brocoli and leaves/flowers FREE

Box of round persimons taken after asking a old lady who had a huge tree in her front garden FREE

Fresh huge navels foraged from empty house with massive tree, sweet fruit going to waste FREE

Walnuts given for free from Magill area

Egg shaped persimons...so sweet, better than round ones...heaps and heaps on the tree, but was running out of daylight FREE

Went into a local organic shop at the end of the day and asked if they had any reduced or any over ripe produce I could have...came out with this box...all ORGANIC!
spinach
potatoes
2 lettuce
carrot
persimon
brussel sprouts
nashi pears
golden delish apples
watermelon
butternut pumpkin
basil
bag of mushrooms
ripe sapote

Happy little forager!

All this took about 3 hours to gather with the car and 3 little helpers...could have had much much more...when you are keeping your eyes open and looking for fruit...you realiaze just how much there is in Adelaide...I think that it would be 100% possible to source most of the families fruits and greens...from foraging alone...wow, my eyes have been opened, so many possibilies.

I shall post more pics as we find more to forage!

Love BB

wow! what is the difference between you and the naysayers bb? YOU TOOK POSITIVE ACTION!
and power to you!

i lived for years on stale white bread, vegemite, beans, tuna and rice and sweet chilli sauce 'cos thats all i could afford..'
imagine the head start you give your kids with them knowing the best food is free from the tree..that pick'n from the vine makes you feel de'vine..

the other day we were riding and i screamed out 'jesus loves you, jesus loves me, jesus loves EVERYBODY!' and a few houses later spotted a primo ripe percy tree...
so try that prayer out sometime..lol!

let them percies get real soft before eating..they look like the astringent type which is sooooo bitter unless goopy soft.
only having a bicycle with a trailer we are limited to what we can carry..but like my mate whom wheelchair forages in belgium, you just gotta work with what you got. what a champ...he crawls accross the lawn to get the fruit that has dropped...cos push'n a wheelchair on lawn aint easy.

it all comes down to
WHATEVER IT TAKES!

Aww thanks Harls, thats an encouraging post! Actually to be honest I probably wouldnt have ever concidered foraging if it had not been for you and your way of living your passion, truth and example... so thanks, your way is having an impact on our family for the good. btw, your prayer was one of the most simplest yet purest prayers...might give that one a go!  laugh

I went foraging again this morning on the way from dropping everyone off at work and school, I am always going to carry a few boxes in the car, cos now I am seeing opportunites for fresh picked fruit everywhere...amazing whay you can take for granted until your eyes are opened.

This is what I got today after 1 hour of searching...

The persimons are devine...so gooey soft sweet jamlike..and the pomegranate...so sweet...literally bursting open with ripe sweet juice....OMG I am so thankful for this bounty...

HAHA...the persimon tree is in firle...a house near the white church, there are workmen there..no one living in the house...I asked and they said I could take...still heaps on the tree though...all around that area...

The secret.......is to bring the children....they have keen eyes and cuteness that people cant say "no" to! LOL

ps...are you able to call me?

Adelaide is amazing. I hunted around here and found a lemon tree and a lime tree on the one property and they people who owned the place use a bundle of pesticides. (When I went to speak to them I asked them about how they maintained such a gorgeous garden) and so I didn't ask for more.

I found loads of mango trees to but we didn't get many mangoes this season and so people enjoyed them all to themselves. We did get a few from a neighbours tree that hangs over our fence though. Yummers.

Well done Berry. That's awesome.

What wonderful finds! Except for a handful of blackberries here and there I am out of faraging luck lately but last night I dreamt of juicy green-golden plums that I shall endevour to manifest. Thanks for the inspiration Berry! xoxox

wow good job!

I'll be keeping my eyes out now...

we have three mandy trees, three kaffir lime trees, two orange trees, a lemonade tree, a cherry guava tree, and a vegie patch...so we are very blessed.

I like variety though so will keep an eye out for some other types of fruit.

I bought a punnet of strawberries today at a bit of a high price (understatement) but I just wanted to have a treat so I did.

They smell sooo goood!
