the other day at work my boss was whinging about the recent price hike on pre-mixed alcohol, i couldn't help but laugh and think sucked in, but will this really stop the youth of australia from drinking themselves to death? what's everyone think? i think it's really sad that young people don't know how to have fun without alcohol and i think the older generation have maybe taught them this?

Lol the older generation...yeah blame us.

Sorry just chuckling here....when I was about 40 I had a G/F about 28....one of those brief (few month long) intermingling of the intellect type relationships...;-)

Had this very conversation with her about it all being "the older" generations "fault"....the same generation that did (well x-y-z to help humanity, 'nother subject).

This isn't a generational issue...it's vastly more involved than that.

Could be an interesting topic tora chan....if there's any interest shown here on it.

PARTICULARLY the way governments typically respond to things like this...

I work in a pub and the amount of oldies that say they wont be coming if the prices go up any more (we've had two price rises this year already due to "inflation") is pretty high.

The younger generations dont realy mind as much, they're more woried about the drinking age moving up to 21. Which I also agree with.

The amount of fights Ive had to deal with because of 18-25 yr olds starting fight (usualy over a female) is ridiculous! If the oldies start anything we bar them and they leave. So in my opinion the younger generation have brought it on themselves and the pre drinking age generation arent helping the cause either.

My 2 cents

None of this has anything actually to do with alcohol...(treat the symptom not the cause?)....nor does it have anything at all to do with other drugs..legal or not.

Look at the history of alcohol as an example...and /or ciggies...but alcohol is a classic...prohibition has been well and truly tested.

If something like alcohol is legal the good guys (well that's a contradiction in terms...the government) make money from it. If it's illegal...the "bad guys" make money from it. The only difference there is perception. At the least the "bad guys" don't pretend...there is an honesty in the lack of hypocrisy.

How do Governments deal with their hypocrisy? By ignoring it and creating (and funding)...well....you get the drift...nothing new down that path.

We are each responsible for our own actions and decisions regardless of the circumstances (when a choice is actually involved) and the consequences of those actions. Our "current" individual degree of perception (whether high or low or non-existant) is completely irrelevant to the degree of culpability or repercussion from our actions.

This basic truth is being eroded....and being replaced by a "new" (hahhahaha yeah right...new) attitude of almost arrogant expectation of "individual rights" (while contributing nothing). It is an illusion. It is not reality.

As always...not everyone falls for the puppet act....

But Most Do ....as always....

This issue goes wayyyy deeper than it appears to on the surface.....and there's a lotta people on this forum who do not fall for that puppet act.

Doesn't everything John? Which direction of deeper? How?

Aren't alcohol and cigarettes the two biggest killers in Australia of all the drugs? I was shocked to find that out. I remember though when I was late teens until about 18months ago. No rise in prices would have stopped me drinking. I just did it because I liked it. I don't think it will effect the teens at all.

i think the older generation have maybe taught them this?

I think you could be right.

I went up to the local football oval on Sunday, as I walk laps around it.

I got there just at the end of a football match.

There were loads of drunken adults there, mainly fathers staggering around wearing footy shirts, with huge beer bellies and clutching cans of VB.

However, it was a “family” event, so there were also a lot of teenagers there. These teenagers were being given drinks by the adults, then staggering around the streets and vomiting everywhere.

Not so sure Rudd's plan will work. If you can’t afford the new price hike of pre-mixes, just buy cask wine or sherry flagon (2 litres of cheap grog for less than $10) instead.

I am a bit peed off, my favourite wine has gone up in price quite dramatically recently, but it won’t stop me buying it.

The biggest killer of people is ignorance.

I agree...no price rises or any other sort of action by anyone actually solves anything, because it doesn't address the real issue.

Deeper?

A society mainly compromised of completely "lost" individuals all at various degrees of either realising or denying that fact.

It's places like this forum where a tiny minority at times congregrate to share views...and experiences...

It goes way deeper Jen....because at it's foundational level...all this is a spiritual issue...not a physical reality one.

I dont think this prise will do anything. Although I am happy about it because I like the idea of that portion of the population paying higher taxes when its those people that make our hospitals so over crowed due to there addictions.

Sach!
