Hi,

I haven't been on here for ages as my journey to raw took a dive...........but I'm on it again now! yay! I now have my dh on board too so that helps encourage me. So, we have moved to Sydney and just can't afford the organic produce that's around, even at the coop. We are thinking about getting together a group of about 10 people to start a little coop that buys in bulk at wholesale prices eg. for $60 you'd get a mixed box of yummy, raw organic fruit and veg at wholesale. We have visited Eco Farms and I am going to visit Back to Eden to find out how they do things too. If anyone is interested please let me know. We would love to get it happening asap so that we don't have to ingest anymore toxic chemicals!

Love Abby xo

Hi Abby,

Thanks for initiating a little coop.  I am definitely in.  I did have a lot of organic product due to the price reason, but now I am more committed to organic and hope to find something with reasonable price.  So thank you so much for this.

I'd be interested but Sydney is soooo BIG!!!  I've been talking with the Sydney Organic Buyers Group about starting something in the Newtown/Marrickville area...but only talk thus far...

http://groups.msn.com/SydneyOrganicBuyersGroup

Was that the kind of thing you were thinking of Abbey?

Problem I find is that being Raw...your F&V needs are quite different to other folks (I juice quite alot and our family goes through fruit by the truckload)

Anyway, please keep me in the loop Smiley

Hi Abbey, I have just joined the forum, would love to be able to buy organic at a cheaper rate, what area are you thinking about, it is a big place.  I'm more Bankstown area than Marrickville.

Hi,

I'm so sorry I haven't replied to this. I usually get an email saying there have been replies to a thread but didn't get any for this and assumed noone was interested. So I was suprised to jump on today and see 7 replies! yay! I am in Croydon Park so Marrickville/ Newtown is pretty close to me.

I think there are enough people to get this started. I just have to recheck with some of the other people interested and get all the logistics sorted out.

So fruit is a big need and greens? Because this will be a coop not only for rawbies but also for conventional folk there will be a mix of fruit and veg, but lots of fruit. Is there anything in particular that people would love or not love to have? We were planning on getting mostly what is in season, preferably localish etc etc.

This is the way we planned on running it. My hubby and I would go each Thursday, in the wee hours of the morn and pick up the goods. Come home, sort it out and box it. Then people would need to come and pick it up in the morning, or we could deliver in the early afternoon for the cost of petrol, if you live not too far away.

YAYAYAYAY!!! I am so excited to get this happening.

Just had a read through the Sydney Organic Buyers Group stuff and I think that is the way to go. I am happy to get a 'node' started for the inner west and if there is somewhere more central to go for packing and pick up I would be happy to run it from there. I do have two kids and would probably need some help if it wasn't at my place. It seems like a great system they have set up there and whoever is the coordinator of the node gets to choose what is ordered so there should be no issues with ordering stuff for rawbies. What does everyone think? It seems like the way to go. Caramba, have you already put your hand up to be the coordinator for the node? I am writing to let them know that I can help out. Did you have a place in mind for packing etc? Are you keen to be the one ordering?

Abby, I can't put my hand up to be the co-ordinator of the node...I went to a meeting recently about the Leichhardt group they're starting, but p/u from there won't work for me, so I thought 'at some future date" to look at getting a Newtown one started.  I have the price lists and some info from the existing groups if you want to take a look...

I spoke to some (not Raw) Homeschool Mum friends and they are also interested, but they were thinking p/u during the day??   Evening p/u could be hard with kids? (i have a 2 as well!)

My problem with the set up was that the boxes were only fortnightly and were 60/40 veg to fruit.  I wonder if we got enough interest if we could do a just fruit/juicing  box as well... Basically I guess it's going to be impossible to accommodate everyones individual preferences...depends of what sort of interest there is as to how often it would run or how flexible it could be...

Did you have a place in mind for deliveries (and sorting, p/u)?

I guess once the location is decided then it's easier to gauge interest (a bit of a Catch 22 situation here...)

Feel free PM me if you'd prefer.

Did this get off the ground?  We're looking at starting a group in Marrickville afterall...not with the Sydney ORganic Buyers Group...just ordering through Back to Eden (they deliver)  P/U would be THURSDAY during the day (midday-ish) so not sure if that's feasible for people who are at work during the day...?  Feel free to PM me Smiley

It didn't get off the ground unfortunately. I had a really terrible year lst year with lots of crap going on so the coop took second place. I have been ordering superfoods etc with a few friends though, and that has been great!

Will pm you to get the details.

Well, a friend and I are starting a co-op of sorts of fresh organics. But, it will be bulk buying, rather than a mixed box. Basically buying boxes of food together to reach the minimum spend required. We may split up some items in half or thirds depending on the need. Each week you'll receive a pricelist and need to pick it up from Croydon Park or Dural. We also run a monthly, organic dry goods co-op which will coinside with the fresh day.
