I am keen to try a black sapote. Does anyone have any information nutritional/etc on them? When are they in season and if so where can I buy some in Sydney?
I have found them very hard to source.
I have asked in quite a few greengrocers but they all say “there is no demand for them”.
I have only ever found them in two places:
1) Frenchs Forest Organic Markets on a Sunday morning 8am – 12pm
2) An on-line organic shop delivering Sydney wide – I can’t remember their name – sorry. I will try to remember and post back. The on-line store I brought them from did not advertise them. I put in a request and they got them especially for me. I didn’t even need to buy a tray, I just got two or three to try.
It is also called the Chocolate Pudding Fruit, as supposedly it looks and tastes like chocolate (not to me though).
So you may want to ask for the fruit under both names, as some people list it as Chocolate Pudding Fruit.
White Sapotes are even harder to get hold of.
Maybe some of the independant Farmers markets will have them.
