http://www.imunologie.cz/pdf/brezen/6.pdf
Found this pdf file with the following excerpt:

"Regarding the supplement MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane), Dr. Cheney stated
"I really like it. It's wonderful stuff." He recommended the book The
Miracle of MSM: The Natural Solution for Pain
<http://virtualhometown.com/dfwcfids/books/index.html> by Stanley Jacob,
William Regelson & Martin Zucker. He said, "Great book. Everything you'd
ever want to know about MSM, written by a physician who's used it for 30
years in his patient population."
Dr. Cheney described five benefits of MSM.
(1) "MSM itself has the toxicity of water - it's non-toxic. But it's a
very potent detoxifier. If you take too much MSM, you can mobilize too
many toxins too quickly. It can even mobilize heavy metals, so you have
to be cautious about the dose. Start low and go slow - work up gradually
to the therapeutic dose, which is 6 to 9 grams a day. Most CFIDS patients
can work up to 6 gms a day, but from there it can be a rocky road."
(2) "MSM is a very potent anti-yeast medication. It causes yeast to blow
up. Well, basically they melt. Their cell walls are destroyed. Again, you
see herxheimer reactions if the dose is too high."
(3) "Pain relief from MSM can be significant, particularly at 6 to 9 gms
a day. This applies to most any pain, because most pain is toxicity
related. Some of the pain relief accounts are pretty impressive. It's
typical to hear at 6 gms, nothing, 8 gms, no relief, then suddenly at 10
gms the pain is gone. There seems to be a threshold you have to reach and
then boom. The threshold will vary from person to person. I encourage
patients to work gradually up to 9 gms. If the pain still has not
resolved, I may try to push some patients to 12 gms. I always get a
little bit concerned though, when they get to 12 gms because of one
patient's experience, which I'll tell you about."
(4) "MSM also helps allergies. The mucous barrier is a sulfur barrier,
and the sulfur binds to allergens and keeps them away from your nasal and
sinus mucosa so you don't get allergies."
(5) "Another reason for CFIDS patients to take MSM is that if you measure
sulfur levels in their blood and urine, most patients are usually very
low. Patients get sulfur depletion very quickly trying to cope with the
toxicity of this illness."
Dr. Cheney had one patient who decided on his own to start with 12 grams
of MSM a day. About a week into the treatment he had what Cheney called
"sudden spontaneous detox". He was extremely ill with diarrhea, vomiting
and flu-like symptoms. He also experienced what Cheney referred to as
"suicidal ideation" - he wanted to kill himself. The episode lasted
almost 12 hours and then abruptly stopped. The patient then felt much
better. Cheney believes that the suicidal urges were the result of toxins
that had been mobilized by the MSM and carried to the brain before being
eliminated. The toxins destabilized him psychologically for a time.
Obviously, this is very dangerous and definitely to be avoided. Start
with a low dose and advance slowly. Cheney has never had a patient who
gradually worked up to 12 grams experience an episode like this, but he
warns patients to be very cautious with the higher doses.
Cheney stressed the importance of buying a pharmaceutical grade MSM. As
already mentioned, sulfur binds to toxins, which makes it a very potent
and effective detoxifier. However, it also means that if manufactured in
a non-sterile environment, it will pick up whatever is in the
environment. Think of it as a sponge for toxins. If itÌs made in a garage
in Mexico, it will absorb the toxins in the garage. MSM can be among the
most toxic supplements on the market if itÌs exposed to toxic materials
during production..."

Raw Sensation ~

How much MSM did you take?

I have big cracks on my heels and nothing, not even coconut oil, helps them.

Thanks in advance.

Jason.

Hi Jason,

I was taking 1 teaspoon per litre of water. Some days I would drink 3 litres other days 5. Much more than that and I would find that I didn't like the taste. I've since learned that it can be applied topically too. You could try mixing coconut oil and msm and applying that at night before sleeping.

One lady from here, Panda, tells me to apply coconut oil to everything. She doesn't post often but she goes through litres and litres of the stuff with her big family and swears by it for every thing skin.

Good luck! I hope they heal quickly for you. I used to leave little bloody heel prints around sometimes and it was very painful when they got really deep.

Hi rawsensation, how long have you been taking it? I noticed that some people continue to take it because they don’t feel good without it.

Love and peace

I got to the point where I didn't like the taste of water without MSM.  Then, I reached a point where I couldn't drink water with MSM.

Like most things we are drawn to, I believe that (for me) it served a purpose at one point, and then my inclination was to move away from it.  I still occasionally use it to brush my teeth, but I went pretty full on with MSM at one point, and for now, I think it is enough.

If I am drawn again, I shall certainly wander down that path.

Now my migraine is gone, I'm starting the MSM again. 1/8 t to a litre of water/day.

miss giggles, what a great idea to brush our teeth with it. Tell me more about your experience with MSM and why you were drawn to it in the first place.

Sunheart - I am not sure that I am able to answer your question satisfactorily, so please forgive me.

As to why I was drawn to MSM - I have no idea.

It came onto my radar, I read and researched, and I tried it.

I am innately curious about everything, and whilst I am keen to read others' views and experiences, I know that the best experience is my own.  That is all I can really judge anything by - my own experimentation.  What works for another, may not work for me, and vice versa.

I am like a child, and my attention is easily swayed, so I can be totally captivated by something for a while, and then the next thing catches my eye, and I'm off..... laugh

That is just my way.

I was taking it for a few months. But how many I can't say. I am... challenged when it comes to remembering time. I can never remember how many years Bill and I have been together, or how old my kids are, or indeed, how old I am. I have to ask Bill these things. He is a time king.

Miss G, how did you brush your toothy pegs with it? Just dip the brush in and away you went? That's fascinating. Did you notice any benefits. I'm rushing of to brush my teeth with it now. What a great idea.

Jen - yep, damp toothbrush into the bag/container of msm, and then brush.  Benefits?  I don't know - I just like the freaky metallic taste, and the way my teeth feel afterwards.  laugh

My teeth were ruined by large doses of childhood antibiotics - I'm not sure they will ever recover from that - so I'm never going to feature in a dentist's advertisement.   laugh

miss giggle - haha, that's me all over.

About your teeth, that's interesting. My baby teeth were all black from having antibiotics as a baby. They pulled those out when I was four and for some reason, it didn't affect my second set. I heard there's a third set if we live long enough, maybe there's luck for us yet. laugh

Ok so ive gone through a whole 450g bottle and yeah id do it again. Its hard for me to scientifically sythesise the 'why' but yeah ive noticed improvements in my hair and skin. Im not sure that its exactly helped in getting rid of scar tissue. In this instance i would try other things and apply them topically on my skin in the affected areas. EDTA or DMSO i cant remember which one.

Well, I have a full 450gm less 4-5 teaspoons of MSM Powder (Sunfood Nutrition) from Raw Pleasure if anyone wants it. MSM is definitely not for me. My dreams and body screams NO. I bought Spirulina instead, no problems.

Hi sun heart. I was actually going to write more of a reply with my experience of MSM.
I did too much to start with in conjunction with too much of other stuff and this was a terrible mistake.
Ive done alot of fish over my time, and therefore i believe i have built up alot of mercury toxicity. Cases like this, is probably why its suggested to start out with minimal doses. Its always best to educate yourself on a product like that before you just start 'going for it.'.

All the best..

Hi Phil,

The thing that I got most out of this experience is to conclude if a substance consumed is enervating, or aiding a detoxification process. When fasting or eating only raw fruits and veggies, I usually gain energy and clarity. The smallest amount of MSM sends me off to sleep, the same way eating cooked food does. Therefore, MSM enervates me. My dreams tried to warn me and now I know they're guiding me... Moving forward and upwards.

Love Nic
