Hey guys,
We are moving to Brisbane mid July, as Gary has got a new job! He starts in Brisbane on 21st July, and its a minimum 2 year contract.
We are staying in temporary accomodation for the first 4 weeks, while we look for a place to rent.
Has anyone got any ideas of good inner suburbs to rent in?
We had been looking at New Farm, Teneriffe, Indooroopilly, Milton etc.
We are looking for a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment/unit, close to public transport, for about $250 to $450 per week.
Once we get settled in, we'll come to the raw picnics!

Very cool! You will so love meeting up with everyone there!

When we lived in Brisbane we lived in Mt Gravatt. It was on public transport, and by highway only about 20 minutes to Brisbane. They also had a special dedicated bus lane so the bus trip into Brisbane was really really fast. That direction might be a good place to look.

If you want to be close to the city AND organics look into Windsor. On Northey Street is the Organic Market every weekend which is great. There's a train into the city just north of there, and good buses too.

West End is also lovely and has a few great health food stores, lots of vegetarian options, and a real fun arty atmosphere (ie dance classes, capoeira etc) AND stores that defrost durian each day to have it ready for customers that MUST have it right away. That alone should tell you how great an area it is! West End is a walk across the river literally from downtown, theres good buses too. There's a weekend market in the West End too that has some organics.

Good luck with the relocation... how exciting as I take it this means he'll be working from home too not out at the mines?

Much love,
Sheryl

Yes, Mt.Gravatt is a great place.
There is a great organic farm Jen at Mt.Cotton.  Muriels organics. This is where I get all my fruit and veg, nuts and seeds. They stock pretty much everything. If they don't grow it themselves they do get it in from the markets. Much cheaper than the shops, nicer that the markets as the farm itself is really beautiful. Plus Muriel and Terry are genuine, kind people who are in it to help people. They don't advertise, word of mouth is how they work. They would love thet fact you're a naturopath as they themselves are very open minded about natural forms of healing.
Anyway, it is a bit of a trip out there but for me, it's on the way home from work and well worth the trip.

All the best on your move.

Okay, I know this is more of a selfish suggestion....what about Dakabin?!!!  Yes, it's about 30kms from the city; yes, it IS closer to me; yes, it may not suit YOUR needs; yes, it WILL suit MY needs; yes, I'll have someone who I can talk to who doesn't think I'm a nutter for trying to aspire to a raw vegan lifestyle!!  rofl rofl rofl

Kidding.

It will be great to have you come to this side of the country.....and hopefully meet up in person.  Good luck with your house-hunting.

Hello Jen,

Can I recommend the south east side of Brissy?
I live at Carina which has great bus trasnport to Brissy City.
There is also anywhere on that train line - Norman Park,
Morningside, etc.  Bulimba and Hawthorne are really nice
areas too and close to the Morningside train line.

South side is the place to be.  Smiley
