hey there all you amazing RAWIST'S,

i have been inspired to change our lifestyle, but am under no illusion that it will be difficult and challenging, but im excited.
A little about me. Im a busy mother of two busy and creative children, 6 and 4, and live with my husband of ten years. My partner and i use to follow a vegan diet, and over the last 2 years  have slipped and starting eating meat....urgrgrgrghrhrhrhrh, and lots of other nasties. Although relatively healthy due to my daughter being lactose intolerant, and both my husband and daughter unable to handle colors, flavours, and preservatives, i bake and cook amazing healthy foods. But in saying that, i have put on weight and feel tired all the time, and i just want a change.
About 8 years  ago we purchased Julianos' RAW, the uncook  book. I tried a few recipes and then put it back in my cupboard as it all looked to hard. Well its out of the cupboard, and im keen.

I suppose the first step is to purchase a dehydrator and experiment. the hardest part will be converting the kids. I am also going to eliminate processed bread as of now. Im still going to cook yummy hot dinners ( i love my curries).
Baby steps will be the way to go, especially to help the kids transition easier.  Im hoping to get a dehydrator before xmas.

will keep you updated.

ps.great site, i have been reading lots of posts for the past hour.
Thanks for reading

cheers

Welcome! Looking forward to reading your journey as you go along.

There is lots of info here and on the web to get you through and recipes galore. It's worth having a look around.

We haven't got a dehydrator and get by. There are times when I would like one, but I also love the idea of everything still being fresh and juicy. It's not a necessity, but from what I've read it can transition easier.

When we started out, I just added raw foods to our diet in higher and higher quantities. After awhile everyone would want less cooked foods and look for more raw fruit and veg. Perhaps that would work for your kids too.

Ask as many questions as you need to. Good luck!

Hi Stickynicky, welcome! I'm sure you will find many great ideas here as well. I love the idea of baby steps. One at a time! Good stuff. Can't wait to hear more from you.

Hi Stickynicky,

Welcome!

I found that having a dehydrater helped me heaps in the beginning, making lots of transition food, but even now, I still use it heaps, though not as much. My family couldn't get by without crackers!
In the beginning I made lots of comfort food, like spinachpies with lots of nuts and fats, but as we got used to eating raw, we eat simpler and simpler, just enjoying the tastes of the different foods in a wonderful way  yahh

As Savvy Woman points out, you just eat more and more fresh of everything :-)

Enjoy and good luck with it,

Vikinggirl

Refusing to rate what we perceive, helps us to cultivate feelings of acceptance rather that judgment, as we stop demanding that life be other than it is.

Nooooo. Unfortunately not. How much will you be using? If it's only a little then I wouldn't worry too much. If you can go for organic as they bleach the non organic pretty heavily apparently.

Have fun experimenting. I ate loads and loads of gourmet to start with. Loads. Twas fun. We all enjoyed it and I still enjoy it now and then. I adore my fresh stuff now though. Yum!!!
