Thanks 'Guys',
Water plays a big part in my day, drinking bout 3 liters per day, and I am eating heaps more fruit than i did before. Fruit is great but what about the protein - sounding like a SAD person? and what about other nutrients found in vegetables? My nails are flaking and i am wondering what i should do for that? They are weak when they were strong before.  i am wondering if this is an adjustment period for my body or if i am lacking some minerals or something?

Nails may be flaking due to you not absorbing your nutrients properly which can stem from poor food combining, if the nutrition can't get into the cell then the bodymind will become malnutrtioned and send signals to us to get more sugar. You may not be chewing your food sufficiently either therefore not acccessing the nutrition. Avoid drinking water too close to eating as this will dilute your digestive enzymes and also affect the functions following digestion.
It may be an adjustment period too but I know if I am eating correctly in the right combos my nails are strong and happy :-)

I remembered last night that i was sick a week or so back, and became quite run down, that would have affected my nails as well.  detox
I also googled 'cracked nails' and  I visited the Blackmores site which said it can be due to a lack of omega 3 oils- which I had stopped taking when i was sick as my belly did not feel too good either.  I had also stopped taking my vitamins for the same reason. Lack of Iron is often a cause as well, and again i had stopped with the iron soooo getting them into me as well as recovering from the flu i had will be a good start as well.  I am sure that nutrients absorption is a problem and chewing is a part of it as well.   thumbup      I am eating heaps more fruits than i was and loving it as well, specially now i can get some of the  tropical fruits here in Ad. again.  They are so yummy,  I love and adore mango green smoothies.    ok    Nuts?  Well, well i have increased the quantity when i noticed the nails, but that will drop off again soon.  Though i do love the maca nut spread in celery or dates.  But know it is dripping with calories so dont indulge too often.  I also noticed that i had dropped off the greens - the all important greens..... that will make a big difference!

I did make some delicious flax seed and nut crackers the other day-
  • soak flax seeds for about 18 hours till they are slimy - about 1 cup of them ( i used golden ones)
soak as well either almonds or walnuts
soak some dried fruits for a couple of hours Just a couple of hand fulls, I used fresh dates in some and in others sultanas and in others dried apricots
then add to the flax seeds the drained dried fruits and roughly chopped nuts
and honey to your taste to sweeten (I have not tried agave, not sure how it dehydrates)
    add a little salt
add a little vanilla if you like and some cinnamon if you like as well.
mix well then drop onto a dehydrator till crispy and yummo.

As i had no troubles with my nails till i got the lurgy,  I will see how they recover and take supplements to help build my system again.  Thank you for all the help, it is re-assuring to know that it is not 'cos i am eating raw and lots of fruits, I will keep on top of the water as well.
Another thing that the Blackmores site stated was that people with cracked nails should keep hands out of chlorinated water-  laugh I swim 3-4 times per week for one or more hours  laugh laugh laugh laugh and will not give that up - i am adicted to it.   yahh

I have not posted my eats for a while as i have been busy busy busy.  I have been eating mainly fruits and have from what i have been told lost more weight.  I am feeling really good.  I said i would post some of the improvements in my health so here goes:
  • I have lost the brown 'liver spots' off of the back of my hands
I dont get the same joint stiffness when i swim or after swimming
I dont get muscle soreness when i swim or after swimming now
My skin on my face has improved in colour and in tone and texture - still have wrinkes but it looks better
    I have lost weight
I can breathe through my nose most of the time
    My eyes are clearer
The ringing in my ears has diminished to almost nill
I had a fibroid which has 'vanished'
Swimming is easier and breathing is better
During this flu i did not get much asthma
    My skin feels softer
    I can bend more easily
My mind is more organized and i think clearer
    I sleep very well
I have no trouble with BM
occasional hot flashes - which are very low intensity and bearable c/f sweat dripping down my back and keeping me awake at night.
passed a poor lady in the market today, she was quite a big lady and she carried a towell to wipe the sweat from her face as she had a hot flash - poor woman i felt so sorry for her.
[/list]
In the market today I had for lunch a smoothie, i was so pleased that i did not eat the normal chinese stuff,        thumbup    i did have two vegan chocolates  and a raw, Yes raw, pastelli.  I'd love to know the recipe, they are delicious, I read the ingredients but how the person who makes them gets them to stick together is to me a mystery.  As soon as I ate the vegan chocolates, I got a mild hot flash - warm moment - is probably a better name for it.      I was so hungry as i had not eaten since 8:00 am and it was 4:00 pm.  It was just one of those days and i did not take lunch.  Not a good move.  But i planned to buy a smoothie as my treat at the market.  But circumstances meant that i did not get there when i hoped to - no matter i survived.

Frangi those benefits from upping your fruit intake are fantastic! Thanks so much for posting them. I suggest you write or print out a couple of copies and carry one with you and put one on the fridge as a constant reminder of the food that you and the food that loves you back....

That hot flush you got was probably from the stimulation effect of the cacao, its a pretty powerful drug hmmm sorry ingredient.  The longer its out of your bloodstream the easier it will be to say no, the more we have stimulating foods the more our tastebuds crave the stimulation along with our tastebuds becoming de-sensitized to the delicate flabours of fruits and vegies.

You still need more fruit....a banana on the run? You should have a bunch on the run!
Congrats on all your swimming, you will be ready for a triathlon soon, there are short courses around and it would be a great goal to work towards??...

Hi Frang, thanks for your recent kind words. I guess you have an idea about what things must be like for us here at home with Stef. I hadn't heard of SPD before - you learn something new every day.
So I think my mum is going to be leaving the beautiful little town in which you both live - maybe there are too many sad memories there for her - she bought her house as she took on the role of being full time carer for her parents and the place had enough room for all of them, but sadly her mum never even made it to the house, and her dad saw maybe a year there? maybe not even.
BTW, I made your little carrot cakes.....OMG heaven! I loved them. Stef just pulled out the nuts and ate the rest, and she adored the cashew cream frosting! I plan to make some crackers you have listed here somewhere but all in good time...
see you soon sweet frangipanni

Hey Freelea
Thanks for the great encouragement, and a good idea, to put it some where to remind me of what is good to me and what i like.    rose

yep the chocolate plays havoc on my system but boy is it delicious - I just love it, but the desire to eat it is fading rapidly as I increase the amount of fruits in my diet.  In fact i think i bought it out of habitual desire to eat it not cause i really wanted it   shrug.
Nails are growing quickly  but i cant tell how strong they are yet, I am taking my vits and mins, and not sure how i can fit in more Fruit, you mean no veg apart from greens? Huh?

Glad Stef liked the cakes, good way to get goodies into her huh?
If you get a chance you can look SPD up on Google, very interesting.   GrandieSon is doing quite well today, with some days being better than others, Friday - no not a good day-.

Keep doing what you can and take each step at a time

OHHHH WHAT A NIGHT LAST NIGHT detox
I prepared a pizza for hubby and The Olds, and yep you guessed it, ate a substantial amount of it. I felt a little clogged up after scoffing into it, but, when 2:00 a.m. arrived and did i sweat, sweat and sweat,  this lasted till 4:30 am when i finally fell off to sleep again downcast.

BM x3 this a.m. after smoothie. (hubby has these down pat now and they are sooo good) so i feel better now but tired.  It is not worth it for a few minutes 'pleasure'.  The sweating was profuse running off my back and down my head, just like years ago when i was getting the hotties really bad.

Just when i think i am getting better - i relapse ( Sigh)  yawn
Stupid thing about it I had 3 beautiful mangoes, a delicious pineapple and lots of yummy bananas and some luverly spinach there but said 'cant be bothered'  - so there  - next time I WILL BE BOTHERED AS IT IS NOT WORTH IT!

Have had a much better day today,
breaky
smoothie ( juices and banana)
Lunch
4 bananas
1/8th watermelon
few slices of pineapple - I am enjoyingthe pineapple and it does not seem to be reacting on my skin -AMAZING
Dinner
berry's tahini and hazelnut patties
chick pea salad: chick peas 1/2 cup, carrots, peas, celery, coriander, parsley, avocado tomatoes and something else I cant recall, but it was good.
sweet flax cracker

I have noticed that my hair is thinning . Yipes! I'm not too keen on going bald yet. So am trying to get more protein into me as well by adding chick peas (cooked and more nuts).
I have sprouted several types of lentils and chic peas but cannot come at them raw! Just cant do it.
I'm not too keen onthe cooked ones but am beingreminded that the hair issue is probably protein deficiency.  Not sure what to do here really.  So a few legumes should be ok i hope.  - feel like I'm falling apart at the seams but i did have a flu and was not really good for a week or two, so may be that is the reason as well.

I think i have over eaten today really but none the less stayed raw and that was my main aim.
Frangipanni
oops forgot to add I did a 2200m swim today in the open heated pool - it was L-U-V-E-R-L-Y.

thought by posting pics of my garden it might help anyone who is contemplating starting their own garden.  I started gardening 4-5 years ago in polystyrene boxes...... it grew to this plot which is 10 m long and 1.3 m wide....

In the middle of an area close to my house that is a steep slope full of weeds - see background of pics, I have a small oasis of garden which i have worked on and cultivated for about 4 years.  When i started it was like the slope int he background but with much mulch, compost and pea straw, digging and some imported soil the clay base is now a friable soil that yields me some delightful vegetables.  I cover my lettuce & spinach with 50% sarlon to keep the leaves tender; and at present, because there is a slight risk of frost,  i use this white, filmy, spiderweb type of stuff that keeps the frost off and keeps the seelings warm at night.  The spinach is a perpetual spinach and i pick it regularly.   The Cos is still young but is growing rapidly.  I have just planted tomatoes and lebanese cucumbers.  Two years ago i cultivated seeds to seedlings and the cucumbers are delicious but did not get to the seeds this year - next year will do it again as they are definately better that way.
I fertilize regularly and use seasol for healthy roots on the plants.  I do use a bit of snail bait 'cos of millipedes and slaters and snails and slugs till the plants are established then i use nothing.  I am currently setting up a drip system for rain water and also use a lot of pea straw.
It is fun and a bit of know how and work goes into good results, but gardeners are only too keen to chat about their experiences.
